Settlement Reduction Effect of Advanced Back-to-Back Reinforced Retaining Wall

  • In order to constrain the railway roadbed settlement which causes track irregularity, and thus threats running stability and ride quality, advanced Back-to-Back (BTB) reinforced retaining wall was numerically analyzed as railway roadbed structure. This study is intended to improve conventional Back-to-Back reinforced retaining wall as the technology which would reduce the roadbed settlement in a way of constraining the lateral displacement of its prestressed vertical facing and inducing arching effects in roadbed (backfill) placed between masonry diaphragm wall and vertical facing. As a result of numerical analysis, it was found that the roadbed settlement was reduced by 10% due to the prestressed vertical facing and embedded masonry diaphragm wall of the advanced Back-to-Back reinforced retaining wall system.

철도강화노반 시험부설구간에서의 열차 주행시 장기거동 계측 (Long-Term Measurement under the Moving train at the Test Reinforced Roadbed Site in Railway)

  • Nine different types of the reinforced railroad roadbeds which . are located in between Suwon-Chunan station of Kyongbu line were constructed in order to increase the bearing capacity of railroad roadbed and to improve the ridability as a part of speed-up project of conventional railroad systems. Each three sections were composed of weathered granite soil, crushed stone and furnace slag(HMS25), and fully instrumented with earth pressure cells, settlement plates and geophones to monitor the behavior of roadbeds under actual train loads. Field measurement has continued since October 31, 2000 and presently with rather longer measurement interval. The measurement data such as settlement, earth pressure and vibration levels are currently under analysis process. In this paper, only cumulative measurement data of railroad roadbeds were introduced. In the near future, comprehensive measurement data and result of analysis will be presented and design technique for the reinforced railroad roadbed will be proposed as a final product of this study.

실 열차구간에서 측정된 강화노반재료별 궤도틀림 진행 평가 (Trend of the track irregularity with reinforced Railroad Roadbed materials measuring in Service Railroad line)

  • The railroad roadbed plays an important role in distributing and transferring the train loading to subgrade, preventing subgrade from bearing softened by providing appropriate stiffness for subgrade, and eventually supporting the track structures. Presently, the reinforced roadbed was widely constructed in high speed line and is proceeding a research about economical thickness and methodologies for the design of reinforced roadbed. Field test section is located at Kongbu line which is from Suwon to Pungtack. In this study, field test were measured a track irregularity with several types of reinforced roadbed materials by using Track Master. The field testing were conducted between March, 2006 and March, 2007.

  • When the train running on the high-speed track, there is a speed band which track distortion is unusually increased according to the condition of track and roadbed. This speed is called critical velocity and physical parameter values are increased greatly. These phenomenon happened as high-speed train were developed, studied regularly through TGV 100 running test in France. As research result until now, the main reason is soft roadbed's bearing capacity. Wave propagation and track support capacity is varied by the ground characteristics. This paper achieved theoretical examination about resonance band(speed and frequency) that occurred in roadbed on the base rock in point of geotechnical engineering. The examination of resonance divides with ground response analysis, critical band analysis by the shear wave velocity of roadbed and train critical speed through the ground stratum.

A Review on Intelligent Compaction Techniques in Railroad Construction

  • The purpose of this paper was to review Intelligent Compaction (IC) techniques, which is regarded relatively new to the railroad roadbed construction activity. Most of civil structures are built on roadbed that supposed to provide adequate load bearing support to the upper structure through the qualified compaction process. However, it is not uncommon for structure failure attributed to inadequate compaction control take place in field sites. Unlike traditional compaction control method to check field density at several locations, IC techniques continuously measure various compaction quality indices that represent compaction uniformity. In this paper, a series of literature review relevant to IC techniques was conducted to provide concise summary on the following categories: 1) background of IC technique; 2) Summary of IC vendors and basic principles; 3) modeling of IC behavior, and 4) case study along with correlation between IC with other measurements. In summary, IC technologies seem to be promising in future railroad construction to achieve better compaction quality control so that the serviceability of railroad can be ensured with minimizing rehabilitation and maintenance activities.

철도 노반재로서의 수경성 입도 조정 고로슬래그(HMS-25)의 적용성 평가 (Evaluation of Applicability of HMS-25 as the Railroad Roadbed Material)

  • 본 연구에서는 선철의 제조과정에서 부산물로 발생되는 수경성 입도조정 고로 슬래그(이하HMS-25라 함)의 철도 노반재로서의 적용성 및 성능평가 검토를 하였다. 실험은 기본물성 측정을 위한실내시험, 일축압축강도시험 및 정ㆍ동적 특성분석을 위한 모형토조실험 및 공진주/비틂 전단시험을 실시하였다. HMS-25의 일축압축강도시험 결과, 수경성에 의한 강도 증진 효과를 확인하였다. 토조시헌에서는 HMS-25를 이용하여 조성한 노반이 흙노반에 비해 지지력 및 침하량측면에서 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 공진주/비틂전단시험에서는 전단탄성계수는 구속압의 0.5 제곱으로 증가하였으며, 재령에 따라 증가하는 경향을 보였다.

  • 노반 성토체에서 발생하는 소성 변형은 콘크리트 궤도의 안정성과 유지보수에 영향을 미친다. 철도 노반에서의 장기적인 소성 변형은 주로 반복적인 열차 통과로 발생하는 누적된 비탄성적 변형률에 의해 발생한다. 누적 소성 변형의 예측은 궤도의 유지보수와 열차의 안전한 운영을 위해서 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 서로 다른 강화노반 두께를 가진 철도노반에서 발생하는 연직 변위를 계산하였다. 누적 소성 변형률을 계산하기 위한 멱함수의 상수는 삼축 실험과 실대형 재하 실험의 결과로부터 구하였다. 표준 노반 단면에 대한 3차원 유한요소해석 결과로부터 강화노반의 두께를 선정하는 가이드라인을 제시하였다.

실대형 실험을 이용한 가진주파수 변화에 따른 콘크리트궤도의 동적평가 (Dynamic behavior of Track/Roadbed with Loading Frequency in Concrete Track through Full Scale Model Test)

  • 호남고속철도에 부설된 동일한 궤도노반시스템을 실제 열차하중이 가능한 실대형 가진시험을 통해 성능을 평가하였다. 실험결 과 Odemark 등가깊이 이론에 의한 노반압력과 매우 유사한 것을 확인하였다. 콘크리트궤도에서 정적하중 330 kN을 재하시 노반 상부의 토압은 50 kPa 이내로 발생하였고, 정적하중시험과 반복하중시험 결과는 비교적 큰 차이가 없었다. HSB의 탄성변위는 증속시험 시 관리기준값 1 mm에 비해 약 1/100 수준이며, 노반의 탄성변위량과 비교해볼 때 1/175 정도로 매우 작은 변위가 발생하였다. 가진주파수의 크기에 따라 궤도노반의 동적거동은 가진주파수가 35 Hz이하에서는 모든 측정값이 거의 선형적으로 증가하였으나, 35 Hz이상에서는 윤중, 변위, 지반가속도 등이 감소하였다.
