  • This study is aimed at evaluating the effect of Aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract (AFE) on corn silage fermentation characteristics. Trial included two groups of treatments, with or without AFE inclusion in corn ensilage. Sixty corn silage containers, including two treatments with thirty replicates each, were processed in a laboratory scale mini-silo of 21 cm radius by 45 cm height. Three replicate containers were opened and sampled for analysis at 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 10, 18 and 34 days after being ensiled. One silage container from each treatment was installed with a remote controlled electronic thermometer to record the temperature changes. Analysis included silage temperature, pH, fermentation acids, the water-soluble carbohydrates and chemical compositions and the silage protein fractions. Results showed that on the first day, the temperature of the ensiled corn was slightly higher than room temperature, but returned to room temperature on the second day. The pH and concentrations of WSC, ADF, lignin and acetic acid in the AFE treated silage were significantly lower than the control groups (p<0.05). The lactic acid and crude protein on the other hand were significantly higher in the AFE treated silage as compared to the control (p<0.05) at the end of the ensilage period. The DM content was significantly higher (p<0.05) whereas the butyric acid content of the AFE treated silage was significantly lower (p<0.05) than the control at the end of the 34 day ensilage period. Titratable acid and buffering capacity in the corn silage were not significantly different between treatment groups (p>0.05). Ammonia N concentration in the AFE treated silage showed a trend of decrease (p>0.05). NPN and the protein fraction A in both groups increased during the conservation period, but fraction A in the AFE treated corn silage was significantly higher than the control silage (p<0.05). During the conservation period, the AFE treated corn silage showed a trend toward a decrease in fractions $B_1$, $B_3$ and C (p<0.05). The protein fraction B2 showed a trend toward increase in the control group and an inconsistent trend in the AFE treated silage during the ensiling period. The AFE treated silage showed a better Flieg score over the control silage (97 vs. 75) as calculated from the concentrations of lactic acid, acetic acid and butyric acid.

  • By substituting Cr in inverse-spinel $Fe_3O_4,\;Cr_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ thin film samples were prepared by sol-gel spin-coating method and their structural electronic, and magnetic properties were analyzed. X-ray diffraction indicates that the lattice constant decrease with increasing Cr composition (x). This result can be explained in terms of occupation of octahedral sites by $Cr^{3+}$ ions with smaller ionic radius than that of $Fe^{3+}$ Vibrating sample magnetometry measurements on the samples at room temperature revealed that saturation magnetization ($M_s$) decrease by Cr substitution, explainable by comparing spin magnetic moment among the related transition-metal ions. A decrease of magnetoresistence effect with x was observed, similar to that of $M_s$. The coercivity of the $Cr_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ films was found to increase with x, attributed to the increase of magnetic anisotropy by the existence of octahedral $Cr^{3+}(d^3)$.

  • Compact elliptical (cE) galaxies are in a rare class of stellar systems characterized by high stellar densities, small sizes, high velocity dispersion, and high metallicity corresponding to elliptical galaxies. cE galaxies have been observed around massive galaxies, so they could be formed under strong influences of tidal stripping and truncation. However, the recent discovery of isolated cE galaxies requires the need of new formation scenarios. We aim at finding cE galaxies in various environments using SDSS DR12, and studying stellar population of cEs as function of environments. Based on the typical properties of cE galaxies, we selected cE candidates by restricting that low-luminosity Mg > 19.5 mag, small sizes Re < 700 pc, and high velocity dispersions ${\sigma}$ > $60kms^{-1}$. Since effect radii of cE candidates are mostly smaller than the seeing size of SDSS photometry, we calculated the effective radius by fitting a Sersic profile. In addition, we assumed that host galaxies have brightness with Mr < -21 mag, and an environmental parameter is computed as distances between cE galaxies and host-galaxies. We found 112 cE galaxies at z < 0.05, which have high sersic indices (mean value is 5.2) similar to the typical massive elliptical galaxies. Mgb values of cE galaxies increase as the distances from the host galaxies decrease. Especially, for cEs close to the host galaxies (NcE; $D_{host}$ < 300 pc), the Mgb values are similar to those of massive elliptical galaxies, which is consistent with the previous studies. On the other hand, cE galaxies distant from the host galaxies (DcE; Dhost >300 pc) have lower Mgb values than the conventional cE. The Mgb values follow the ${\sigma}$-Mgb relation of elliptical galaxies, and are connected to its faint end. This can be explained as a result of different merger histories for differing environments. For example, NcE galaxies are formed by tidal stripping by massive galaxies as suggested by previous studies, but DcE galaxies could be linked with high-redshift spheroids (e.g. red nuggets) which have not evolved into present-day elliptical galaxies because of the environmental influences.

  • This experiment was conducted to find out the simple and economical method to improve physical properties of the soil that was very poor for the establishment of orchard. Jeonnam clay loam soils distributed mainly on rolling and hill side slope, were treated with the explosion of two kinds of dynamite at the depth of 1 m. The change of physical properties was investigated vertically and horizontally after soil profile had settled to some extent. The results were summarized as : 1. The original soil was very high in bulk density and soil hardness. Total porosity and aeration porosities were lower than critical level providing root elongation. It was more apparent in the subsoil than in the surface soil. 2. It was recognized that soil mass destruction and cracking by dynamite explosion decreased soil bulk density and soil hardness and increased porosity, especially non-capillary pores. 3. Effective radius of the improved physical properties by explosion with two dynamites was 100cm at 60cm depth and 30cm at 80cm depth. But with the use of three dynamites it was 100cm at 80cm depth. 4. It was thought that soil mass destruction and cracking caused by explosion was uneven in the two dynamites, and three dynamites was more effective to improve physical properties evenly. 5. With the use of two dynamites, Ammonium explosive was superior to gelatin dynamite.

  • We have prepared organophilic inorganic particles and polyimide (PI) nanocomposite having excellent thermal stability and high dielectric constant that can be used for electronic application such as capacitor. We have chosen barium titanate (BT), a high dielectric constantmaterial and its surface was coated with nylon 6 to improve the affinity with PI. The FT-IR and TEM studies showed that the organophilic inorganic particle (BTN) has a polymer shell with thickness of 5 nm. We have suggested that it is possible to control the thickness of coating surface and also indicated the relationship between the ratio of inside and outside radius of BTN and the weight fraction of BT. The PI nanocomposite films based on poly(amic acid) and BTN were prepared by cyclodehydration reaction. The homogeneous dispersion of BTN in PI matrix was identified by using SEM. We have investigated the effect of BTN content on the coefficient of thermal stability, integral procedural decomposition temperature (IPDT), and dielectric constant of PI nanocomposite films.

  • In this study, a study on how to use a fire hydrant as a heat wave reduction facility through hydraulic analysis of the water supply pipe network was conducted. Assuming that the fire hydrant installation point is open for heat wave reduction, the water pressure at each point was derived. And the reduction rate of the temperature according to the hydrant watering was compared with the watering area according to the operation of the watering truck. The watering area according to the opening of the fire hydrant was calculated by deriving the pressure value at the node where the fire hydrant was installed through hydraulic analysis of the water pipe network, and then using the watering radius relational expression according to the pressure value. As a result of applying the proposed methodology to two real city areas, the temperature reduction effect of the watering method by a fire hydrant can be derived lower than the watering method by a watering truck according to the difference in the absolute watering area. However, unlike a watering truck, a fire hydrant does not have a relative restriction on the amount of water supply and is expected to allows continuous divided spraying of the same area.

  • In this paper, we review the applicability of fog screen to implement 'Spatial Augmented Reality' which displays the image on the whole space of real space or in real space by separating display equipment and user, in contrast to the traditional Augmented Reality. Through three exhibitions and one performance, we confirmed t hat the fog screen, which can be passed through, is a suitable material for implementing the Spatial Augment ed Reality. We found that the hologram production was easier than before because of fog screen. Through the questionnaire survey conducted on performers along with the exhibition, we found that only about half of people know what a fog screen is, and about 10% of the total respondents saw the fog screen. In order to investigate the effect of fog screen on the surrounding space, we conducted an experiment to observe the change of humidity according to the time and distance in the Children's Culture Center of the Asian Culture Center. We found that the humidity within a radius of 5m around the fog screen could increase by 2~3%($6,400m^3$ standard). Thus we provided some safety requirement with fog screen when works made of materials vulnerable to moisture such as paint, paper, and wood are exhibited at the same time with fog screen in the exhibition hall.

  • Kyeonggi Provincial Government is considering double decker bus service to solve the problem of heavy rush hour traffic. However, the height-to-width ratio is more than 1.16 times larger than that of a general high-speed single decker bus, and the center of gravity is higher. This could cause driving stability problems, such as turnover and breakaway from the lane, especially under strong side-wind conditions at high speed. In this numerical study, the driving characteristics of a model double decker bus were reviewed under side-wind and superelevation conditions at high driving speed. The rolling, pitching, and yawing moment of the model bus were calculated with CFD numerical simulation, and the results were compared to the recovery angular moments of the model bus to evaluate the dynamic stability under given driving conditions. As the model vehicle moves on a straight level road, it is stable under any side-wind conditions. However, on a curved road under side-wind conditions, it could reach unstable conditions dynamically. There is a chance that the bus will turn over when it moves on a curved road with a radius of gyration less than 100 m under side-wind (15 m/s). However, there is a very small chance of breakaway from the lane under any driving conditions.

  • In this study the pilot test of C.G.S (Compaction Grouting System) as injection method by low slump mortar was performed and the results were analyzed in order to find out the application of this method to the soft ground and the effect of settlement restraint. The site for pilot test is adjacent to apartments supported by pile foundations. Sand drain method was performed previously as countermeasures against settlement, but settlement occurs continuously because this ground is very soft. Site investigations such as SPT, CPT and vane shear test were performed to determine the characteristics of ground improvement after the installation of C.G.S. Field measurements were performed on purpose to find out the displacement of ground during the installation of C.G.S. From the results of this study, C.G.S method can be optimized by the control of radius, space, depth, injection material and injection pressure. C.G.S improves soft ground with radial consolidation of adjacent soft ground. Considering that increase of N value to about 3, C.G.S can be considered as an effective method to increase the bearing capacity as well as constrain the settlement of soft ground. It is also expected to be economic and effective in the improvement of ground when it is used in applicable sites.

  • In this study, accident frequency prediction models were constructed by collecting variables such as geometric structures, safety facilities, traffic volume and weather conditions, land use, highway design-satisfaction criteria along 780km (4,372 sections) of 4 lane-highways over 8 areas. As for models, a fixed parameter model and a random parameter model were employed. In the random parameter model, some influences were reversed as the range was expressed based on specific probability in the case of no fixed coefficients. In the fixed parameter model, the influences of independent variables on accident frequency were interpreted by using one coefficient, but in the random parameter model, more various interpretations were took place. In particular, curve radius, securement of shoulder lane, vertical grade design criteria satisfaction showed both positive and negative influence, according to specific probability. This means that there could be a reverse effect depending on the behavioral characteristics of drivers and the characteristics of highway sections. Rather, they influence the increase of accident frequency through the all sections.
