Developing an On-Line Monitoring System for a Forest Hydrological Environment - Development of Hardware - (산림수문환경(山林水文環境) 모니터링을 위(爲)한 원거리(遠距離) 자동관측(自動觀測)시스템의 개발(開發) - 하드웨어를 중심(中心)으로 -)

  • This study was conducted to develop an on-line monitoring system for a forest hydrological environment and its meteorological condition, such as temperature, wind direction and speed, rainfall and water level on V-notch, electrical conductivity(EC), potential of hydrogen(PH) by the motor drive sensor unit and measurement with a single-chip microprocessor as controller. These results are summarized as follows ; 1. The monitoring system consists of a signal process unit, motor drive sensor unit, radio modem unit and power supply. 2. The motor drive sensor unit protects the sensor from swift current or freezing and can constantly maintain fixed water level during measurements. 3. This monitoring system can transfer the data by radio modem. Additionally, this system can monitor hydrological conditions in real time. 4. The hardware was made of several modules with an independent CPU. They can be mounted, removed, repaired and added to. Their function can be changed and expanded. 5. These are the result of an accuracy test, the values of temperature, EC and pH measured within an error range of ${\pm}0.2^{\circ}C$, ${\pm}1{\mu}S$ and ${\pm}0.1pH$ respectively. 6. This monitoring system proved to be able to measure various factors for a forest hydrological environment in various experimental stations.

  • 본 논문에서는 요즘 많은 관심 속에서 활발히 연구되고 있는 WLL(wireless local loop)에서 이동국 (mobile station)과 FWT(fixed wireles sterminal)를 이용한 고정국 (RSU. Radio subscriber unit) 시스템의 구성을 제안한다. 이동국은 FWT로부터 분리하여 휴대사용할 수 있다는 점에서 일반적인 WLL 시스템의 고정국과 차이가 있다. 본 논문에서는 FWT의 하드웨어와 소프트웨어의 구성에 대하여 기술한다.

  • In the paper, we have studied on algorithms for two-dimensional positioning based on GPS pseudorange Technique. First, the linearized state equation was mathematically derived based on GPS pseudorange technique. Second, the geometry model with respect to triangles formed using unit-vectors were proposed for investigation of land-based radio positioning. Finally, the corresponding mathematical formulations for DOP values and covariance matrix were designed for two-dimensional positioning.

  • In this paper, we describe the correlation processing method of multi-polarization observation data of the Daejeon Correlator. VLBI observations include single or multiple polarized observations depending on the type of object. Polarization observations are performed to observe the characteristics of the object. During the observations of the celestial object, polarization measurements are also performed to determine the delay values and causes of changes in the object. Correlation processing of polarization observation data of the Daejeon correlator is proposed by OCTAVIA of a synchronous reproduction processing apparatus that outputs data input to each antenna unit by using an output bit selection function to convert bits and the order of the data streams is changed, And the input of the Daejeon correlator is configured to perform the polarization correlation processing by conducting correlation processing by setting the existing stream number to be the same. Correlation processing is conducted on the test data observed for the polarization correlation processing and it is verified through experiments that the polarization correlation processing method of the proposed Daejeon correlator is effective.

RF front-end Module for On-Line UHF Partial-discharge Monitoring System

  • A RF front-end module is designed for GIS(Gas Insulated Substation) which is employed for effective and efficient very high voltage transmission. Major advantage of the unit is improved PO detection sensitivity through minimizing the effect of surrounding interference signals, which is achieved by controlling the gain and the selection of the frequency band, for the precise detection of any UHF PO (Partial Discharge) disturbance occurred in the GIS due to some unwanted problems. For the development of the module, various switches for providing selected signal paths, wideband LNA, 3 BPF for selecting detection frequency band, and video detector are designed, fabricated and measured on 1 mm FR4 substrate with various RF components. The detection sensitivity of the unit was <-60 dBm that is sufficient to detect UHF PO signals as low as 1 pC. It is believed that the value is enough to detect the signal occurred in GIS.

  • A real-time, Indoor navigation systems utilize ultra-wide band (UWB), radio-frequency identification (RFID) and received signal strength (RSS) techniques that encompass WiFi, FM, mobile communications, and other similar technologies. These systems typically require surplus infrastructure for their implementation, which results in significantly increased costs and complexity. Therefore, as a solution to reduce the level of cost and complexity, an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and quick response (QR) codes are utilized in this paper to facilitate navigation with the assistance of a smartphone. The QR code helps to compensate for errors caused by the pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) algorithm, thereby providing more accurate localization. The proposed algorithm having IMU in conjunction with QR code shows an accuracy of 0.64 m which is higher than existing indoor navigation techniques.

  • A RF-MEMS (radio-frequency microelectromechanical-system) based DPDT (double pole double throw) switch for the Ku band has been designed and analyzed for this article. The switch topology is based on the FG-CPW (finite ground-coplanar waveguide) configuration of a microstrip-transmission line. An FEM-based multiphysics solver is used for the evaluation of the spring constant, stress distribution, and pull-in voltage regarding the requirements of the switch-beam unit. The electromagnetic performance of the switch is investigated for a $675{\mu}m$ thick silicon substrate. For the operational frequency of 14.5 GHz, an insertion loss better than -0.3 dB, a return loss better than -40 dB, and input/output- and output-port isolations better than -35 dB are achieved for the switching unit.

  • A new design technique of fabricating 40 GHz up-converter modules for digital microwave radios has been developed. The design of the up-converter module is based on unit circuit blocks, which are to be characterized using a special test fixture. The complete module design may be as simple as a cascade layout of these unit circuit blocks. Also, the 40 GHz up-converter module employs a new microstrip-to-waveguide transition and a tapped edge-coupled filter, which are less sensitive to fabrication tolerances.

  • Various kinds of accessories(e.g., clock, radio, automatic door locks, alarm devices, etc.) or unit components (e.g., black box, navigation system, alarm, private audio, etc.) require dark current even when the vehicle power is turned off. However, accessories or unit components can be the causes of excessive dark current generation. It results in battery discharge and the vehicle's failure to start. Therefore, immediate detection of abnormal dark current and response are very important for a successful repair job. In this paper, we can increase the maintenance efficiency by presenting a standardized diagnostic process for the measurement of the dark current and the existing problem. As a result of the absence of a system to block the dark current in a vehicle, diagnosis and repair were performed immediately by using a standardized dark current diagnostic process.

Software-based Real-time GNSS Signal Generation and Processing Using a Graphic Processing Unit (GPU)

  • A graphic processing unit (GPU) can perform the same calculation on multiple data (SIMD: single instruction multiple data) using hundreds of to thousands of special purpose processors for graphic processing. Thus, high efficiency is expected when GPU is used for the generation and correlation of satellite navigation signals, which perform generation and processing by applying the same calculation procedure to tens of millions of discrete signal samples per second. In this study, the structure of a GPU-based GNSS simulator for the generation and processing of satellite navigation signals was designed, developed, and verified. To verify the developed satellite navigation signal generator, generated signals were applied to the OEM-V3 receiver of Novatel Inc., and the measured values were examined. To verify the satellite navigation signal processor, the performance was examined by collecting and processing actual GNSS intermediate frequency signals. The results of the verification indicated that satellite navigation signals could be generated and processed in real time using two GPUs.
