We show the results of a time series analysis of the long-term light curves of four blazars. 3C 279, 3C 345, 3C 446, and BL Lacertae. We used densely sampled light curves spanning 32 years at three frequency bands (4.8, 8, 14.5 GHz), provided by the University of Michigan Radio Astronomy Observatory monitoring program. The spectral indices of our sources are mostly flat or inverted (-0.5 < ${\alpha}$ < 0), which is consistent with optically thick emission. Strong variability was seen in all light curves on various time scales. From the analyses of time lags between the light curves from different frequency bands and the evolution of the spectral indices with time, we find that we can distinguish high-peaking flares and low-peaking flares according to the Valtaoja et al. classification. The periodograms (temporal power spectra) of the light curves are in good agreement with random-walk power-law noise without any indication of (quasi-)periodic variability. We note that random-walk noise light curves can originate from multiple shocks in jets. The fact that all our sources are in agreement with being random-walk noise emitters at radio wavelengths suggests that such behavior is a general property of blazars. We are going to generalize our approach by applying our methodology to a much larger blazar sample in the near future.

We investigate the origin of radio emission in nearby early-type galaxies using the European VLBI Network (EVN) at 1.4 GHz. The sample included NGC 1277, which was found to have an over-massive black hole of $1.7{\times}10^{10}M_{\odot}$, and four other early-type galaxies in the Perseus cluster. All the sources were detected above $5{\sigma}$. They show compact radio cores and high brightness temperatures, $10^7{\sim}10^9K$, which implies that radio emission in these objects is non-thermal. While the observed radio luminosities could be consistent with star formation (${\sim}1M_{\odot}yr^{-1}$), the small source size would imply a specific star formation rate (sSFR) of ${\sim}10^6M_{\odot}yr^{-1}kpc^{-2}$. Such a high sSFR rules out ongoing star formation. Supernovae (SNe) are ruled out as well because it is unlikely that we see SNe in all galaxies at the same time, and there is no significant radio variability either. The most plausible scenario is that these galaxies show low luminosity AGN activity in the radio, although there is no sign of AGN activity in other bands. If our interpretation is correct, then regular early-type galaxies may harbor active AGN more often than suspected from observations at other wavelengths.
High Frequency Peakers (HFPs) are radio-loud Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN), which are regarded as being in the earliest evolutionary phase (102-103 years) of radio galaxies. They are expected to be small in size (< ~1 kpc) compared to their host galaxies (~a few 10s kpc), and have convex spectra, which are peaking at high radio frequency (> 5 GHz). Their size and spectral shape are the most obvious supporting evidence of extremely young ages. HFPs are therefore ideal targets to probe the earliest stage of radio sources. To date however, the young radio source classification has been relying mainly on the spectral shape which usually does not cover high enough frequencies where the true peak flux is located. Hence HFPs are often confused with blazars which may show a similar spectral shape and apparent compactness but are a somewhat evolved form of AGNs. Therefore, we have been challenging to identify HFPs among the sample of 19 candidates using the Korean VLBI Network (KVN) which enables us to extend the radio spectrum baseline up to 22 and 43 GHz. These are higher than the frequencies used in most previous studies of HFPs, allowing us to select genuine HFPs. By long-term monitoring of 18 epochs, we have also inspected the variability of the sample to select out blazars which are highly variable yet with a similar radio spectrum. In this work, we present the light curves and spectral properties of the HFP candidates. We discuss the results of our re-identification of HFPs.
We report results of investigation of amplitude calibration for very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations with Korean VLBI Network (KVN). Amplitude correction factors are estimated based on comparison of KVN observations at 22 GHz correlated by Daejeon hardware correlator and DiFX software correlator in Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institue (KASI) with Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) observations at 22 GHz by DiFX software correlator in National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO). We used the observations for compact radio sources, 3C 454.3 and NRAO 512 which are almost unresolved for baselines in a range of 350-477 km. VLBA visibility data of the sources observed with similar baselines as KVN are selected, fringe-fitted, calibrated, and compared in their amplitudes. We found that visibility amplitudes of KVN observations should be corrected by factors of 1.14 and 1.40 when correlated by DiFX and Daejeon correlators, respectively. These correction factors are attributed to the combination of two steps of 2-bit quantization in KVN observing systems and characteristics of Daejeon correlator.
This study was designed to investigate the main sources of food and nutrition, utilization, reliance, nutritional knowledge and dietary behavior. The results are as follows. 1. The main sources of food and nutritional information are television and radio, newspaper and popular magazines in that order. 2. The first topic is a guiding principle in the dietary life of adult disease prevention. 3. The percentage of the perceived nutritional knowledge of respondents using the newspaper and popular magazines is higher than for the respondents using the television and radio, but the accuracy of the nutritional knowledge was not significant. Per the results, the nutritional education of people through the mass media is very reasonable, Therefore, it is necessary to develop a nutritional education program and implement the program using the most practical mlethod to deliver the information.
We observed a total of 14 Mira variables as well as 4 late type variable stars for their SiO ${\nu}= 1$, J = 2 - 1 maser lines from April 1989 to November 1990 with the 13.7 m radio telescope at Daeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory. The maser intensity variations were the prime objective of the observations which well covered the periods of the variations. The origion of the variations were studied by comparing wi th those previousely measured in optical and infrared(IR) wavelengths and we confirmed that the intensity variations were in good correlation with those in V magnitude and IR intensity as previousely found in former investigators in general. However, for a few sources, we could find the missing maxima. The intensities themselves also were in good correlation with SiO ${\nu}\;=\;1$, J = 1 - 0 maser intensities observed in Yebes as expected. The good correlations indicate that the pumping source of the SiO maser is likely to be the IR emission in the masing regions and the "missing maxima" that are apparent in two particular sources are considered to relate wi th the strength of shocks arising from the eruptive mass-loss from central stars.

A two-way relaying (TWR) system is analyzed, where two source terminals with unequal numbers of antennas exchange data via an amplify-and-forward relay terminal with a single antenna. In the system considered herein, the link quality between the sources and relay can generally be asymmetric due to the nonidentical antenna configuration, power allocation, and relay location. In such a general setup, accurate bounds on the average sum rate (ASR) are derived when beamforming or orthogonal space time block coding is employed at the sources. We show that the proposed bounds are almost indistinguishable from the exact ASR under various system configurations. It is also observed that the ASR performance of the TWR system with unequal numbers of source antennas is more sensitive to the relay location than to the power allocation.
The Faraday rotation measure (RM) of extragalactic radio sources is one of tools that can explore the magnetic field in the cosmic web. We have investigated the statistical properties of the RM using the data of simulations for the large-scale structure formation of the universe. Various modelings for the cosmic magnetic field including the redshift dependence, and the intrinsic RM of radio sources have been considered. We here present the structure functions (SFs) of simulated RMs for small angular separations, and compare the SFs with observations, specifically those from the NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS) and LOFAR Two-Metre Sky Survey (LoTSS). We then discuss the implications of our work.
Using multi-epoch spectra of active galactic nuclei (AGN) obtained from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, we identify 16 spectrally variable sources, for which the spectral shapes of broad emission lines significantly vary with a time scale of yrs. Out of them, 3 AGNs are already known as changing-look (CL) AGNs by previous studies. 6 AGNs are newly identified as CL AGNs from our study. A majority of these AGNs are relatively faint and their variability in the continuum is small, which may explain their non-detection in the previous studies. 7 sources are known as binary AGN candidates based on the systematic velocity offset between broad emission lines and narrow emission lines. For those sources and 3 CL AGNs, we find that the peak of broad emission lines had been shifted up to a few thousands km/s for ~10 years, implying that those can be promising candidates for pc-scale binary AGNs or recoiling black holes. We plan to conduct multiwavelength follow-up studies to nail down the physical origin of the velocity shift.
First, We will briefly introduce early science results of AGN observations with KVN and KaVA. KaVA is the combined array of the Korean VLBI network (KVN) and VLBI Exploration of Radio Astronomy (VERA). These include KaVA monitoring of M87, Sgr A* and a few bright blazars and KVN Search for circular polarized Blazars. Furthermore, we will present our future plan of monitoring observation of Sgr A* and M87 with KaVA and Low Radio Power AGN multi frequency polarization survey with KVN. Because of the largeness of their centralsuper-massive black holes, we select them as top-priority sources of our key science program (KSP). The main science goals of the KaVA KSP are (1) mapping the velocity field of the M87 jet and testing magnetically-driven-jet paradigm, and (2) obtaining tightest constraints on physical properties of radio emitting region in Sgr A. High sensitivity achieved through simultaneous multifrequency phase referencing technique of KVN will allow us to explore Low Radio Power AGN cores which build majority of AGNs and therefore are important for undestanding the evolution of AGNs and of their hosts.
