  • Molecular dynamics simulations were performed to understand the structural arrangement of water molecules around highly charged nanoparticles under aqueous conditions. The effect of two highly charged nanoparticles on the solvation charge asymmetry has been examined. We calculated the radial distribution functions of the components of water molecules around nanoparticles which have four charge types at two different salt concentrations. Even though the distributions of water molecules surrounding a sodium ion and a chloride ion are hardly affected by the charges of nanoparticles and the salt concentrations, those around highly charged nanoparticles are strongly influenced by the charges of nanoparticles, but hardly by the charges of nanoparticles and salt concentrations. We find that the distributions of hydrogen atoms in water molecules around one highly charged nanoparticle are dependent on the magnitude of the nanoparticle charge.

  • The relationship of growth-in defects such as crystal originated particles (COP), flow pattern defects(FPD), laser scattering tomography defects (LSTD) was investigated in Cz-Si single crystals which had different pulling speed during crystal growing. It is concluded that the density and radial distribution of grown-in defects is strongly dependent on the pulling speed. And as the generation areas of these grown-in defects in a wafer are identical in radial position, they can be generated from same origin during crystal growing.

  • This paper deals with the optimum condition for spot heating to correct the thin buckled panel caused by welding. Heat input models for each flame torch tip (500, 800, 2000) with standoff were establish using FEA to evaluate the temperature distribution of the heated plate and verified by experiment. With the heat input models developed for each torch tip, the effect of heating variables including ramp ratio(R) and standoff on the radial shrinkage and angular distortion was identified using FEA. Based on the results, the proper conditions of spot heating with air cooling were established. The amount and distribution of the radial shrinkage by spot heating were formulated as the function of heating variables and in-plane rigidity of the plate.

  • This paper presents a discrete wavelet analysis based algorithm to address the fault impedance calculation under transient state in radial power distribution networks. The fault impedances have been derived under different fault conditions. Furthermore, a recursive fault distance estimation method is proposed utilizing the measured fault impedance and power line parameters. The proposed scheme can resolve the errors caused by the non-homogeneous power lines, the presence of lateral loads since, the fault impedance will always be updated with the recursive form. For the verification of the proposed scheme, a filed test has been peformed with varying fault resistances in the 22.9(kV) radial system. Power meters and fault locators were installed at the substation. It was figured out that the performance of the discrete wavelet and the recursive scheme are very good even for high fault resistance condition.

  • In the area of clustering, there are numerous approaches to construct clusters in the input space. For regression problem, when forming clusters being a part of the overall model, the relationships between the input space and the output space are essential and have to be taken into consideration. Conditional Fuzzy C-Means (c-FCM) clustering offers an opportunity to analyze the structure in the input space with the mechanism of supervision implied by the distribution of data present in the output space. However, like other clustering methods, c-FCM focuses on the distribution of the data. In this paper, we introduce a new method, which by making use of the ambiguity index focuses on the boundaries of the clusters whose determination is essential to the quality of the ensuing classification procedures. The introduced design is illustrated with the aid of numeric examples that provide a detailed insight into the performance of the fuzzy classifiers and quantify several essentials design aspects.

  • Over the last two decades, numerous experimental and numerical efforts have examined physical phenomena in plasma discharge devices. The physical mechanisms that govern the anomalous electron diffusion from the cathode to the anode in the Hall Effect Thruster (HET) are not fully understood. This work used 1-D numerical method to improve our understanding and gain insight into the effect of the anomalous electron diffusion in the HET. To this end, numerical solutions are compared with various experimental HET performance measurements and the effects of anomalous electron diffusion are analyzed. The relationships between the anomalous electron diffusion and important parameters of the HET are also studied quantitatively. The work identifies the cathode mass flow rate fraction, radial magnetic field distribution, and discharge voltage as significant factors that affect anomalous electron diffusion. Additionally, the study demonstrates a computational process to determine the radial magnetic field distribution required to achieve specific thruster performance goals.

  • Blue Straggler Stars(BSS) affect their host star cluster in various parameters like color, dynamics, etc. For this reason, it is important to know how to relate BSS frequency and evolution of their host stellar system. To statistical study about global properties of open clusters as the environments of BSS formation, we use three catalogues - (1) two galactic open clusters catalogues including BSS candidate, (2) Milky Way Star Cluster (MWSC) survey data. Then, we compare with the data of two BSS catalogues for test of the result of Marchi et al. 2006. We also investigate the radial mass distribution in open cluster, because it is possible that changing the gradient of radial mass distribution cause increasing the BSS frequency. When we group the open cluster into having BSS or not and other criteria, the groups show slight discrepancies, but we show some important results.

  • A structural analysis of dickite prepared by dry grinding with different grinding time has been made by X-ray diffraction. The $SiO_4$ tetrahedra are found to remain unchanged in the ground dickite samples by analysing the radial distribution function(RDF). On the other hand, with an increase of the grinding time a change in oxygen coordination number around aluminum has been quantitatively confirmed. This variation may be attributed to the change of hydroxyl induced by the prolonged grinding.

  • In this paper, we present a method for mitigating the effect of voltage sag in radial power distribution systems using load transfer switching (LTS). The term of LTS is defined that the weakness load points for voltage sag transfer to the alternative source during the fault clearing practices. The sequences of proposed LTS method is divided into the search of weakness points for voltage sag using the risk assessment model and transfer behavior of weakness points. Through the case studies, we verify the effectiveness of proposed LTS method and present the searching method of effective application points of LTS method using the risk assessment model.

  • Winding is an integral operation in almost every roll-to-roll continuous process and center-winding is suitable and general scheme in the winding system. However, the internal stresses within center-wound rolls can cause damage such as buckling, spoking, cinching, etc. It is therefore necessary to analyze the relationship between taper tension in winding section and internal stress distribution within center-wound roll to prevent the winding failure. In this study, an optimal taper tension control method with parabolic taper tension profile for producing high quality wound roll was developed. The new logic was designed from analyzing the winding mechanism by using the stress model in center-wound rolls. The performance of the proposed taper tension profile was verified experimentally.
