In this paper, two radial basis function neural networks (RBFNNs) are used to dynamically identify harmonics content in converter waveforms based on the p-q (real power-imaginary power) theory. The converter waveforms are analyzed and the types of harmonic content are identified over a wide operating range. Constant power and sinusoidal current compensation strategies are investigated in this paper. The RBFNN filtering training algorithm is based on a systematic and computationally efficient training method called the hybrid learning method. In this new methodology, the RBFNN is combined with the p-q theory to extract the harmonics content in converter waveforms. The small size and the robustness of the resulting network models reflect the effectiveness of the algorithm. The analysis is verified using MATLAB simulations.
In this paper, we introduce an advanced architecture of K-Means clustering-based polynomial Radial Basis Function Neural Networks (p-RBFNNs) designed with the aid of SSOA (Space Search Optimization Algorithm) and develop a comprehensive design methodology supporting their construction. In order to design the optimized p-RBFNNs, a center value of each receptive field is determined by running the K-Means clustering algorithm and then the center value and the width of the corresponding receptive field are optimized through SSOA. The connections (weights) of the proposed p-RBFNNs are of functional character and are realized by considering three types of polynomials. In addition, a WLSE (Weighted Least Square Estimation) is used to estimate the coefficients of polynomials (serving as functional connections of the network) of each node from output node. Therefore, a local learning capability and an interpretability of the proposed model are improved. The proposed model is illustrated with the use of nonlinear function, NOx called Machine Learning dataset. A comparative analysis reveals that the proposed model exhibits higher accuracy and superb predictive capability in comparison to some previous models available in the literature.
This paper proposes a novel pattern recognition approach based on the radial basis function (RBF) neural network for identifying insulation defects of high-voltage electrical apparatus arising from partial discharge (PD). Pattern recognition of PD is used for identifying defects causing the PD, such as internal discharge, external discharge, corona, etc. This information is vital for estimating the harmfulness of the discharge in the insulation. Since an insulation defect, such as one resulting from PD, would have a corresponding particular pattern, pattern recognition of PD is significant means to discriminate insulation conditions of high-voltage electrical apparatus. To verify the proposed approach, experiments were conducted to demonstrate the field-test PD pattern recognition of cast resin current transformer (CRCT) models. These tests used artificial defects created in order to produce the common PD activities of CRCTs by using feature vectors of field-test PD patterns. The significant features are extracted by using nonlinear principal component analysis (NLPCA) method. The experimental data are found to be in close agreement with the recognized data. The test results show that the proposed approach is efficient and reliable.
This paper presents the optimized approximation of finite element modeling for a complex tool holder spindle using both DOE (Design of Experiment) with Optimal Latin Hypercube (OLH) method and approximation modeling method with Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural network structure. The complex tool holder is used for holding a (milling/drilling) tool of a machine tool. The engineering problem of complex tool holder results from the twisting of spindle of tool holder. For this purpose, we present the optimized approximation of finite element modeling for a complex tool holder spindle using both DOE (Design of Experiment) with Optimal Latin Hypercube (OLH) method (specifically a module of $iSight^{(R)}$ FD-3.1) and approximation modeling method with Radial Basis Function (RBF) (another module of $iSight^{(R)}$ FD-3.1) neural network structure
This paper proposes the algorithm of servo- writing based on feedback error learning neural networks. The controller consists of feedback controller using PID and feedforward controller using gaussian radial basis function network. Because the RBFNs are trained by on-line rule, the controller has adaptation capability. The performance of the proposed controller is compared to that of conventional PID controller. Proposed algorithm shows better performance than PID controller.
In this paper, The methodology of Type-2 fuzzy set-based Radial Basis Function Neural Network(T2RBFNN) is proposed for Sewage Treatment Process and the simulator is developed for application to the real-world sewage treatment plant by using the proposed model. The proposed model has robust characteristic than conventional RBFNN. architecture of network consist of three layers such as input layer, hidden layer and output layer of RBFNN, and Type-2 fuzzy set is applied to receptive field in contrast with conventional radial basis function. In addition, the connection weights of the proposed model are defined as linear polynomial function, and then are learned through Back-Propagation(BP). Type reduction is carried out by using Karnik and Mendel(KM) algorithm between hidden layer and output layer. Sewage treatment data obtained from real-world sewage treatment plant is employed to evaluate performance of the proposed model, and their results are analyzed as well as compared with those of conventional RBFNN.
Vehicle dynamics control systems are. complex and non-linear, so they have difficulties in developing a controller for the anti-lock braking systems and the auto-traction systems. Currently the fuzzy-logic technique to estimate the absolute vehicle speed is good results in normal conditions. But the estimation error in severe braking is discontented. In this paper, we estimate the absolute vehicle speed by using the wheel speed data from standard 50-tooth anti-lock braking system wheel speed sensors. Radial symmetric basis function of the neural network model is proposed to implement and estimate the absolute vehicle speed, and principal component analysis on input data is used. Ten algorithms are verified experimentally to estimate the absolute vehicle speed and one of those is perfectly shown to estimate the vehicle speed with a 4% error during a braking maneuver.
In this paper, a modified RBF (Radial Basis Function) neural network structure is suggested for the prediction of time series with non-linear, non-stationary characteristics. Conventional RBF neural network predicting time series by using past outputs is for sensing the trajectory of the time series and for reacting when there exists strong relation between input and hidden neuron's RBF center. But this response is highly sensitive to level and trend of time serieses. In order to overcome such dependencies, hidden neurons are modified to react to the increments of input variable and multiplied by increments(or decrements) of out puts for prediction. When the suggested structure is applied to prediction of Lorenz equation, and Rossler equation, improved performances are obtainable.
To control nonlinear chemical processes, a new neural linearizing control scheme is proposed. This is a hybrid of a radial basis function(RBF) network and a linear controller, thus the control action applied to the process is the sum of both control actions. Firstly, to train the RBF newtork a linear reference model is determined by analyzing the past operating data of the process. Then, the training of the RBF newtork is iteratively performed to minimize the difference between outputs of the process and the linear reference model. As a result, the apparent dynamics of the process added by the RBF newtork becomes similar to that of the linear reference model. After training, the original nonlinear control problem changes to a linear one, and the closed-loop control performance is improved by using the optimum tuning parameters of the linear controller for the linear dynamics. The proposed control scheme performs control and training simultaneously, and shows a good control performance for nonlinear chemical processes.
