  • In this paper, a GPU-accelerated kernel of range Doppler algorithm (RDA) was developed for real-time image formation based on frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) synthetic aperture radar (SAR). A pinned memory was used to minimize the data transfer time between the host and the GPU device, and the kernel was configured to perform all RDA operations on the GPU to minimize the number of data transfers. The dataset was obtained through the FMCW drone SAR experiment, and the GPU acceleration effect was measured in an intel i7-9700K CPU, 32GB RAM, and Nvidia RTX 3090 GPU environment. Including the data transfer time between host and devices, it was measured to be accelerated up to 3.41 times compared to the CPU, and when only the acceleration effect of operation was measured without including the data transfer time, it was confirmed that it could be accelerated up to 156 times.

  • Results of an analysis of the continuous motion effect for FMCW-SAR system and a signal processing to correct it are presented in this paper. SAR images reconstructed by back-projection algorithm are included as well. To analyze how platform velocity and sampling frequency affect the continuous motion effect, FMCW signal model was used, and the signal processing in time-doppler(t, $k_u$) domain was adopted. Then, back-projection algorithm and modified matched-filter was used to reconstruct SAR images, and it was validated using measured data by airborne FMCW-SAR system in X-band frequency.

  • The importance of subsurface information is becoming crucial in urban area due to increase of underground construction. The position of underground facilities should be identified precisely before excavation work. Geophyiscal exporation method such as ground penetration radar (GPR) can be useful to investigate the subsurface facilities. GPR transmits electromagnetic waves to the ground and analyzes the reflected signals to determine the location and depth of subsurface facilities. Unfortunately, the readability of GPR signal is not favorable. To overcome this deficiency and automate the GPR signal processing, deep learning technique has been introduced recently. The accuracy of deep learning model can be improved with abundant training data. The ground is inherently heteorogeneous and the spacially variable ground properties can affact on the GPR signal. However, the effect of ground heterogeneity on the GPR signal has yet to be fully investigated. In this study, ground heterogeneity is simulated based on the fractal theory and GPR simulation is carried out by using gprMax. It is found that as the fractal dimension increases exceed 2.0, the error of fitting parameter reduces significantly. And the range of water content should be less than 0.14 to secure the validity of analysis.

  • In this paper, we propose a modified iterative pre-whitening projection statistics (MIPPS) scheme for improving multi-target detection performance in non-homogeneous clutter environments. As a non-homogeneity detection (NHD) technique of space-time adaptive processing algorithm for airborne radar, the MIPPS scheme improves the average detection probability of weak target when multiple targets with different reflection signal intensities are located in close range. Numerical results show that the conventional NHD schemes suffers from the masking effect by strong targets and clutters and the proposed MIPPS scheme outperforms the conventional schemes with respect to the average detection probability of the weak target at low signal-to-clutter ratio.

  • SIGINT(SIGnal INTelligence) includes several parameters intercepted by measurement and analysis of the RF(Radio frequency) signal from free space. One of the important parameters is frequency information. Expecially, in order to perform instantaneous frequency measurement of Radar and Missile seeker's RF signals, we use dedicated RF modules as a DFD(Digital Frequency Discriminator) to provide frequency information by measurement of the relative phase difference between signals via intended RF delay lines. It must measure and provide realtime based frequency information on short pulsed RF signal up to 100 nSec or less. This document proposes Ultra wideband DFD consisted of a RF input section of Wideband 4 channel RF delay line and correlator, a digital processing section to measure and provide frequency information from I/Q signal, and a frequency calibration section. Also, it will show design suitability based on test results measured under test condition of very short input pulse signals.

  • Humanitarian demining is very important issue not only in mine affected courtiers but also for the courtiers which are technically, politically and financially supporting the mine affected courtiers. In order to achieve higher efficiency of the mine clearance operation, new technologies can significantly contribute to the societies. Since 2002, Tohoku University, Japan has developed a sensor system "ALIS" for humanitarian demining. ALIS is a hand-held dual sensor, which combines an electromagnetic induction sensor (EMI) and a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). ALIS has a real-time sensor tracking system based on a CCD camera and which enables the image reconstruction. We have tested ALIS in Cambodia and found that it can eliminate more than 70 % metal fragments. Since 2009, 2 sets of ALIS have detected more than 80 anti-personnel mines, and cleared more than 137,000 $m^2$ in Cambodia.

  • The classical image reconstruction for stripmap SAR is based on the Fresnel approximation which utilizes deramping or chirp deconvolution in the synthetic aperture(slow-time) domain. Another approach in formulating stripmap SAR processing and imaging is based on the SAR wavefront reconsturction theory, and analysis of the SAR signal in the slow-time via the spherical wave Fourier decomposition of the radar radiation pattern. In this paper, we compare the Fresnel approximation and the wavefrong reconstruction methods using simulated stripmap SAR dada.

  • Source localization has developed in various fields of signal processing including radar, sonar, and wireless communication, etc. Source localization can be found by estimating the time difference of arrival between the each of sensors. Several methods like the NLS(Nonlinear Least Square) cost function have been proposed in order to improve the performance of time delay estimation. In this paper, we propose a clustering method using the four sensors with the same aperture as previous methods of using the three sensors. Clustering method can be improved the source localization performance by grouping similar estimated values. The performance of source localization using clustering method is evaluated by Monte Carlo simulation.
