An approach to quantitative evaluation of product usability during the design and implementation phases of the product life cycle is presented. The evaluation starts by defining a set of usability characteristics, viz. physical, cognitive and affective characteristic. Each of these characteristics is assessed by a set of usability criteria, such as functionality, visual clarity, learmability, etc. The usability criterion is then evaluated by a checklist consisting of a detailed questionnaire. The fuzzy weighted-checklist method with linguistic variables is used for quantitative analysis. Also, the method for quantifying usability improve- ments in iterative design processes is considered. This analysis procides a quantit- ative measure, which reflects the degree of excellence of product usability during the design and development phases.
In-phase control and energy-optimized control are the two major control strategies proposed for series power quality controllers (SPQC). However quantitative analysis and comparison between these two control strategies is quite limited in previous publications. In this paper, an extensive quantitative analysis is carried out on these two control strategies through phasor diagram approach, and a detailed quantitative comparison is conducted accordingly. The load current is used as the reference phasor, and this leads to a simpler and clearer phasor diagram for the quantitative relationship. Subsequently detailed analysis of SPQC using in-phase control and energy-optimized control are provided respectively, under different modes both for under voltage/voltage sag and for over voltage/voltage swell. The closed form analytic expressions and the curves describing SPQC compensation characteristics are obtained. The detailed system power flow is figured out for each mode, and the detailed quantitative comparison between the two control strategies is then carried out. The comparison covers several aspects of SPQC, such as required compensating voltage magnitude, required capacity of energy storage component, and maximal ride-through time. In the end, computer simulation and prototype experimental results are shown to verify the validity of all the analysis and the result of the comparison.

The objective of this study was to compare the wood anatomical characteristics of local tree species in Moluccas, Indonesia i.e., Moluccan ironwood (Intsia bijuga), linggua (Pterocarpus indicus), red meranti (Shorea parvifolia), and gofasa (Vitex cofassus). Qualitative evaluation was conducted by observing the anatomical structure in cross, radial, and tangential sections of each sample. For the quantitative evaluation, the dimensions of vessels, rays, and fibers were measured. Qualitative evaluation showed that crystals were observed in Moluccan ironwood, linggua, and gofasa, while resin canals were only observed in red meranti. Tyloses were frequently observed in gofasa but infrequently observed in linggua and red meranti. Quantitative evaluation showed that Moluccan ironwood with the higher density had thicker fiber wall, higher quantity of ray number, and wider rays than the other species. Red meranti had higher values of ray height and fiber length than the other three species. The results also revealed that linggua showed the highest values of relative crystallinity and crystallite width. Red meranti and gofasa showed similar values of relative crystallinity and crystallite width, while Moluccan ironwood showed the lowest values. The basic qualitative and quantitative anatomical characteristics discussed could provide useful information for further utilizations of such wood species.

This study proposes analysis and evaluation method of time series ultrasonic signal using attractor analysis for fusion joint part of polyethylene piping. Quantitatively characteristics of fusion joint part is analysed features extracted from time series. Trajectory changes in the attractor indicated a substantial difference in fractal characteristics. These differences in characteristics of fusion joint part enables the evaluation of unique characteristics of fusion joint part. In quantitative fractal feature extraction, feature values of 4.291 in the case of debonding and 3.694 in the case of bonding were proposed on the basis of fractal dimensions. In quantitative quadrant feature extraction, 1,306 point in the case of bonding(one quadrant) and 1,209 point(one quadrant) in the case of debonding were proposed on the basis of fractal dimensions. Proposed attractor feature extraction can be used for integrity evaluation of polyethylene piping material which is in case of bonding or debonding.

Element distribution analysis and degradation characteristics of the ZnO varistors fabricated at the ambient sintering-process is investigated in this study. ZnO varistors made of Matsuoka's composition were fabricated by standard ceramic techniques. The ambient sintering-process is performed at the special electrical-furnace which is equipped with the vacuum system. The Gases of injection at sintering- process were oxygen, air, nitrogen and argon respectively. Element and quantitative analysis in the microstructure of ZnO varistors made use of EPMA equipment. Degradation characteristics were showed by DC degradation tests at $115{\pm}2\;^{\circ}C$ for period up to 13 h. From above analysis, it is found that at the DC degradation test the ZnO varistor sintered in oxygen atmosphere showed the excellent prop properties among them and these results could be explain by element and quantitative analysis in ZnO microstructure.

In order to examine the ways to improve the efficiency of R&D investment, this paper presents analysis on both quantitative and qualitative efficiency of R&D projects. As Korea's R&D investment has significantly increased in recent years, the efficiency of R&D investment has attracted attention. In this paper, a Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) method is used to construct models for quantitative efficiency and qualitative efficiency analysis. Based on a cases of agricultural R&D projects of Korea, the efficiency of national R&D projects were analyzed and their quantitative and qualitative efficiencies are compared. As a result, statistically significant difference between quantitative and qualitative efficiency was found. Also, characteristics of Decision Making Units(DMUs) which can influence both quantitative and qualitative efficiency were identified. In particular, the stage of a R&D project has significant impact on R&D efficiency. This study suggests that in order to enhance R&D efficiency both quantitative and qualitative nature of outputs should be considered when measuring R&D efficiency.
