  • In this paper, we propose a upstream transmission method to extend coverage in visible light communication (VLC) systems. We extend transmission distance by using focused infrared(IR) light emitting diodes(LEDs). Since the focused light covers just limited area, it might have a difficulty in transmitting data if the transmitter and receiver are not properly aligned. To solve this problem, we arrange multiple IR-LEDs in different direction and select a single best performing IR-LED among multiple IR-LEDs. Also, the transmission performance is periodically checked and another IR-LED is reselected to support the required quality of service (QoS) and to minimize battery consumption required by a mobile terminal.

  • In the distributed multimedia application, high throughput and low delay is one of the most important QoS(Quality of Service) requirement. Emerging high speed communication offers transmission rate above Gbps, but it can not be utilized efficiently by the performance bottlenecks of communication protocols. To overcom the problem, we propose a horizontal processing architecture that processes data as soon as it arrive from the network. Unfortunately, the OSI protocol stack often imposes ordering constraints that prevent concurrent processing of the protocol layers. By using a fixed packet format, the network layer through the presentation layer are processed in parallel. Our prototype shows that the proposed model has performance improvement up to 61% more advantage than the conventional approach.

  • Security has become an issue due to the rapid increases in internet traffic data network. Especially P2P traffic data poses a great challenge to network systems administrators. Preemptive measures are necessary for network quality of service(QoS) and efficient resource management like blocking suspicious traffic data. Deep packet inspection(DPI) is the most exact way to detect an intrusion but it may pose a private security problem that requires time. We used several machine learning methods to compare the performance in classifying network traffic data accurately over time. The Random Forest method shows an excellent performance in both accuracy and time.

  • In this paper, to optimize the average delay and power allocation (PA) for system users, we propose a resource scheduling scheme for wireless networks based on Cyclic Prefix Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (CP-OFDM) according to the first fifth-generation standards. For delay minimization, we solve a throughput maximization problem that considers CPOFDM systems with carrier aggregation (CA). Regarding PA, we consider an approach that involves maximizing goodput using an effective signal-to-noise ratio. An algorithm for jointly solving delay minimization through computation of required user rates and optimizing the power allocated to users is proposed to compose the resource allocation approach. In wireless network simulations, we consider a scenario with the following capabilities: CA, 256-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation, millimeter waves above 6 GHz, and a radio frame structure with 120 KHz spacing between the subcarriers. The performance of the proposed resource allocation algorithm is evaluated and compared with those of other algorithms from the literature using computational simulations in terms of various Quality of Service parameters, such as the throughput, delay, fairness index, and loss rate.

  • Femtocells are viewed as a promising option for mobile operators to improve coverage and provide high-data-rate services in a cost-effective manner Femtocells can be used to serve indoor users, resulting in a powerful solution for ubiquitous indoor and outdoor coverage. TThe frequency accuracy and phase alignment is necessary for ensuring the quality of service (QoS) forapplications such as voice, real-time video, wireless hand-off, and data over a converged access medium at the femtocell. But, the GPS has some problem to be used at the femtocell, because it is difficult to set-up, depends on the satellite condition, and very expensive. The IEEE 1588 specification provides a low-cost means for clock synchronisation over a broadband Internet connection. The Time of Packet (ToP) specified in IEEE 1588 is able to synchronize distributed clocks with an accuracy of less than one microsecond in packet networks. However, the timing synchronization over packet switched networks is a difficult task because packet networks introduce large and highly variable packet delays. This paper proposes an enhanced filter algorithm to reduce ths packet delay variation effects and maintain ToP slave clock synchronization performance. The results are presented to demonstrate in the intra-networks and show the improved performance case when the efficient ToP filter algorithm is applied.

  • Massive broadcasting contents such as UHD(Ultra High Definition) TV which requires multi-channel capacity for transmission has been introduced in recent years. A transmission scheme with channel bonding has been considered for transmission of massive broadcasting contents. In HFC(Hybrid Fiber Coaxial) networks, DOCSIS 3.0(Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification 3.0) has already applied channel bonding schemes for up/downstream of data service. A method unlike DOCSIS 3.0 is required to introduce a channel bonding scheme in the broadcasting service having unidirectional transmission with a downstream. Since a massive broadcasting content requires several channels for transmission, VBR(Variable Bit Rate) transmission has been emerging for the bandwidth efficiency. In addition, research on channel allocation and resource scheduling is required to guarantee QoS(Quality of Service) for the broadcasting service based on VBR. In this paper, we propose a transmission method for mass broadcasting service in HFC network and show the UHD transmission simulator developed to evaluate the performance. In order to evaluate the performance, we define various scenarios. Using the simulator, we assess the possibility of channel bonding and VBR transmission for UHD broadcasting system to provide mass broadcasting service efficiently. The developed simulator is expected to contribute to the efficient transmission system development of mass broadcasting service.

  • In wireless communication networks, most of the prediction techniques are used for predicting the amount of resource required by user's calls for improving their demanding quality of service. However, we propose a channel allocation scheme based on predicting the resources of white spectrum holes for improving the QoS of rental user's spectrum handoff calls for cognitive radio networks in this paper. This method is supported by Wiener predictor to predict the amount of white spectrum holes of license user's free spectrum resources. We classify rental user's calls into initial calls and spectrum handoff calls, and some portion of predicted spectrum-hole resources is reserved for spectrum handoff calls' priority allocation. Simulations show that the performance of the proposed scheme outperforms in spectrum handoff call's dropping rate than an existing method without spectrum hole prediction(11% average improvement in 50% reservation).

  • With the growth of the Internet, multimedia streaming becomes an important means to deliver video contents over the Internet and the amount of the streaming multimedia contents is also getting increased. However, it becomes difficult to guarantee the quality of service in real-time over the IP network environment with instantaneously varying bandwidth. In this paper, we propose an optimal adaptation framework for streaming contents over the Internet in the sense that the perceptual quality of the multi-angie content with multiple visual objects is maximized given the constraints such as available bandwidth and transcoding cost. In the multi-angle video service framework, the user can select his/her preferred alternate views among the given multiple video streams captured at different view angles for a same event. This enhanced experience often entails streaming problems in real-time over the network, such as instantaneous bandwidth changes in the Internet. In order to cope with this problem, we assume that multi-angle video contents are encoded at different bitrates and the appropriate video streams are then selected or transcoded for delivery to meet such bandwidth constraints. For the user selective consumption of the various bitstreams in the multi-angle video service, the bitstream in each angle can be encoded in various bitrate, and the user can select a sub-bitrstream in the given bitrstreams or transcode the corresponding content in order to deliver the optimally adapted video contents to the instantaneously changing network condition. Therefore, we define the transcoding cost which means the time taken for transcoding the video stream and formulate a unified optimization framework which maximizes the perceptual quality of the multiple video objects in the given constraints such as the transcoding cost and the network bandwidth. Finally, we present plenty of the experimental results to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
