  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the prevalence of self-reported musculoskeletal symptoms among the three Taiwan's traditional industries as lathe, electronics and food by the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ). Moreover, the study was also to make a comparison among the aforesaid industries for revealing their differences. The result of the questionnaire indicated that the symptoms appeared on the three industries were all originated from four parts as neck, shoulders, elbows, and wrists/hands. More than 68% of the interviewers thought that their symptoms might be related to their work. However, the rate of harmful influence resulted from life or job was over 50%. As to the respect of the interviewers' attitude in treating their symptoms, more than 80% of them neglected or just treated the symptoms by massaging or cold/hot compressing and resting. From the questionnaire, the proportion of symptoms discussed in each item indicated that the distribution, in perceiving symptom, of interviewers were not quite identical; however the Chi-square test discovered majority did not reach 0.05 levels, hence the difference among industries were not significant.

  • The electronic industries require environmentally-friendly and highly functional materials to enhance the quality of human life. Home appliances require insect repellent steels that work to protect household microwave ovens from incurring damage by insects such as fire ants and cockroaches in tropical regions. Thus, POSCO has developed new types of functional steels, coated with an array of organic-inorganic hybrid composites on the steel surface, to cover panels in microwave ovens and refrigerators. The composite solution uses a fine dispersion of hybrid solution with polymeric resin, inorganic and a pyrethroid additive in aqueous media. The hybrid composite solution coats the steel surface, by using a roll coater and is cured using an induction curing furnace on both the continuous galvanizing line and the electro-galvanizing line. The new steels were evaluated for quality performances, salt spray test for corrosion resistance and biological performance for both insect repellent and antimicrobial activity. The new steels with organic-inorganic composite coating exhibit extraordinarily biological functionalities, for both insect repellent and antimicrobial activities for short and long term tests. The composite-coating solution and experimental results are discussed and suggest that the molecular level dispersion of insecticide on the coating layer is key to biological functional performances.

Improvement in the quality of life, life pattern has been and is being changed, these modernized and improved version of life brings the concept of U-city. Department of urban planning and engineering, civil engineering and architecture engineering in every university educate students according to the changing world in order to handle these complex projects in real world. In most cases department of urban planning and engineering teach project planning and department of civil and architecture engineering teach project design and construction. In most of the projects planning followed by design and construction need to be accomplished, but current observation in the present curriculum shows that it is difficult to expect the continuity. The present curriculum of civil engineering has to change as complex projects deal with various different structures during the design and construction phase of these projects. This study examined curriculums from the department of urban and civil engineering related to structural design and construction and survey importance of design works which overlap urban and civil engineering targeted on design engineers. After understanding design works and results obtained from survey we propose for an advanced efficiency method.

  • The objectives of this study were 1) to classify the types of Quercus mongolica stands at Mt. Joongwang and compare their quality, and 2) to determine the proper future tree number of Q. mongolica per ha and the appropriate distance between the future trees. The results from this study were as follows : Q. mongolica stands at Mt. Joongwang was classified into four types, pure Q. mongolica stand as stand type I, Q. mongolica - hardwood stand as stand type II, Q. mongolica - Pines densiflora stand as stand type III, Hardwood - Q. mongolica stand as stand type IV, according to mixture rate in stand volume. Stand type IV showed the best quality stem of Q. mongolica among the stand types, and the stem quality of Q. mongolica in Q. mongolica stand mixed with hardwood as stand types II and IV was better than those in pure Q. mongolica stand as stand type I and in Q. mongolica - P. densiflora stand as stand type III. If the management goal for Q. mongolica stand is to produce its high quality-timber, it is desirable to sustain proper mixture rate of Q. mongolica with another hardwoods. The proper number of future trees in pure Q. mongolica stand as stand type I was 122trees/ha and reasonable distance between the future trees was 9.15m. The distance between future trees in other stand types was 7.2m to 9.3m for stand types II and IV, while 8.0m for stand type III. Thus, the classification of Q. mongolica stand type based on stand character and maturity, and proper stem number of future tree and optimum distance between future trees would be a useful forest tending work.

  • Blanking processing is one of the shear processing method in which the cut part becomes a product and piercing processing is a press molding process in which the cut part is discarded as a scrap. The shear angle of the punch used for blanking is determined by conditions such as the characteristics of the shear material, shear thickness and shear length. The shear angle of a punch is an important factor in determining the size of the shear load, the life of the shear punch, the deformation of the shear product and the quality of burrs In this study, blanking punches applied with four types of shear angles (i.e., 0°, 0°23", 0°46", 0°69") to the blanking punches of bracket products used in practical work were manufactured and tested. In the blanking experiment, the remaining variables except for the shear angle were the same. Experiments show that the product has the least amount of deformation in blanking punches with a shear angle equal to the material thickness, i.e., 0°46"..

  • The quality of the environment, both natural and man-made, has unlimited influence on people's behavior and their physical and psychological well being. Interior designers shaped the indoor environment in which people live, work, perform day-to-day tasks and rest. Since designers affect a society's sensitivity and thinking, the aesthetics and ethics of the designs must respond to the most burning environmental issues of the contemporary world. This awareness is especially important now, at this critical time in the life of our planet, when humanity is facing twin catastrophes: natural resources depletion and environmental degradation. Under this concept, the purpose of this study is to configure what kind of design is ecologic and sustainable design and how we can develop ecological design as focusing on natural ventilation, natural lighting, uses of recycled materials, application of Indoor landscaping and architectural forms through several existing cases of the ecological office building.
