  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate oncology nurses' professional quality of life and its correlations with job satisfaction and job stress in a tertiary hospital in Seoul, South Korea. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was utilized to investigate 210 oncology nurses from various oncology and hemato-oncology units. Professional quality of life (ProQOL), which is conceptualized with three sub-dimensions (compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress), job satisfaction, job stress, demographic and work-related variables were measured. Results: The participants were all women, with the mean age of 28.4. The participants with high ProQOL was only 14.8%, and 75.3% and 77.6% of the participants reported a moderate to high level of burnout and secondary traumatic stress respectively. Job satisfaction, age, and the total years of nursing practice have positive correlations with compassion satisfaction. Also, compassion satisfaction was significantly different according to age group, work units, the level of education, nursing positions, and the years of practice. Conclusion: Since the level of professional quality of life among oncology nurses was relatively low, the program for oncology nurses to improve compassion satisfaction and to decrease compassion fatigue needs to be developed.

  • In this study, the effect of chronic pain on the lives of elderly people in long-term care service was analyzed based on the mediated effect of depression. The research data was sampled from elderly people in long-term care services, 204 people participated. From mediated regression analysis, depression was the most relevant factor on the quality of life, followed by chronic pain. With chronic pain and depression as independent variables and quality of life as a dependent variable, depression was proved to have had a fully mediated effect on quality of life. The result of this study suggested that convergence of various support systems should be implemented for the elderly in long-term care services.

  • In the smart life era where the majority of economically active population uses mobile devices, smart devices have formed a new service market. In this study, we developed a shipyard quality management application using mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet PCs. For this purpose, the problems were derived through the analysis of the quality management work on shipyard and the considerations were extracted to build a smart work environment by analyzing the case studies of smart work in other industrial fields. Among the shipyard quality management work, functions thought to be highly utilized when converted to a mobile system has been developed as a mobile application. The application was developed by applying an object-oriented component-based development (ooCBD) methodology, and is expected to improve the user experience and the efficiency of quality management operations in shipyard.

  • Broaching machine is widely used for machining inner shaped slots in the work-pieces, and provides vertical motion (usually hydraulically powered) between tool and work-piece. In this study, we modelled the tool life process and investigated economic tool life of broaching machine. Tool life process is divided into wear-process and succeeding failure process. Wear process is defined as machining wear and failure process as 'chipping' occurred by random shock. We modelled wear process as linear regression function for products amounts and assumed failure process as Poisson process. Economic tool life is defined as the number of lots which minimizes average tool related cost per lot and analyzed by using age replacement policy technique. As tool-related cost factors, we consider tool replacement cost, tool maintenance cost and quality costs of products. The results of this study can be applied to analyze life process of general machining tools.

  • Objectives: Obesity is known to influence physical and mental health as well as the general quality of life. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of obesity related quality of life on selecting a goal for weight management in overweight and obese female patients. Methods: A total of 140 overweight or obese (Body mass index $23kg/m^2$) female outpatients aged ${\geq}20$ and ${\leq}60$ years from one clinic participated in this study. Patients' desired weight (goal weight, ideal weight, satisfactory weight, acceptable weight and disappointed weight) and obesity related quality of life measures were evaluated. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed to evaluate the effect of obesity related quality of life on goal weight reduction (%) and goal body mass index (BMI). Results: Mean BMI of overweight group, mild obesity group and severe obesity group were $62.0{\pm}4.8kg$, $68.5{\pm}5.5kg$ and $83.5{\pm}9.6kg$, respectively. Mean weight loss expectations of the three groups were $16.4{\pm}4.7%$, $19.5{\pm}5.3%$ and $30.2{\pm}6.8%$, respectively and goal weight was significantly different among the three groups. Severe obesity group had a lower total quality of life score including physical, work-related, daily living domains than overweight or mild obesity groups. In univariate and multivariate regression analysis, psychosocial domain of quality of life had an effect on goal weight reduction (%) and goal BMI. Conclusions: The results of this study demonstrated that the obese patients with poorer quality of life and psychosocial health tended to choose higher goal weight reduction and lower goal BMI.
