  • There are about nine million power line poles and 1.3 million kilometers of the power line for electric power distribution in Korea. Maintenance of such a large number of electric power facilities requires a lot of manpower and time. Recently, various fault diagnosis techniques using artificial intelligence have been studied. Therefore, in this paper, proposes a power line deflection detect system using artificial intelligence and computer vision technology in images taken by vision system. The proposed system proceeds as follows. (i) Detection of transmission tower using object detection system (ii) Histogram equalization technique to solve the degradation in image quality problem of video data (iii) In general, since the distance between two transmission towers is long, a panoramic video stitching process is performed to grasp the entire power line (iv) Detecting deflection using computer vision technology after applying power line detection algorithm This paper explain and experiment about each process.

  • In this paper, we propose a video summarization technique on a smartphone, based on spatiotemporal saliency. The proposed technique detects scene changes by computing the difference of the color histogram, which is robust to camera and object motion. Then the similarity between adjacent frames, face region, and frame saliency are computed to analyze the spatiotemporal saliency in a video clip. Over-segmented hierarchical tree is created using scene changes and is updated iteratively using mergence and maintenance energies computed during the analysis procedure. In the updated hierarchical tree, segmented frames are extracted by applying a greedy algorithm on the node with high saliency when it satisfies the reduction ratio and the minimum interval requested by the user. Experimental result shows that the proposed method summaries a 2 minute-length video in about 10 seconds on a commercial smartphone. The summarization quality is superior to the commercial video editing software, Muvee.

  • Abandoned channel is vestiges of running in the past. Abandoned channels have been formed mostly by artificial river maintenance through channel straightening in Korea. Managed properly, these now abandoned channels can provide habitat for wildlife, maintain biodiversity of aquatic life, security against flooding and recreation area for human. However, because the areas are officially classified as abandoned, the channels is collapsing and decaying from years of neglect. This study suggested functional assessment for wetland-type abandoned channel in order to provide appropriate management and investment. For this reason, The study will examine and evaluate these channels with regard to the following four major criteria (Natureless, Habitat, Water-friendliness and Water quality) and 21 indices. Consequently, abandoned channel in two Nakdong river sites, site 1 was needed for protection or improvement in the medium to longer term, while site 2 was in good condition. This evaluation method will be helpful to manage wetland-type abandoned channel in Korea and will be able to use National River Health Program.

  • Recently, as a countermeasure to the buoyancy of a building, the use of permanent drainage methods have been on the increase, and these provide benefits both in terms of economical feasibility and efficiency. When a permanent drainage method is applied, some underground water can drain out. Korea has been designated by PAI (Population Action International) as a water-stressed country, and the use of outflowing groundwater is required for the efficient oversight of water resources. However, the evaluation process on the practical use of underground water is currently insufficient. Therefore, the amount of outflowing groundwater put to practical use and the standard for the water quality were examined in this research, with the aim of establishing anappraisal process on the practical use of underground water drainage. In addition, standards for the assessment of the treatment process and the application cost of underground water drainage were developed. On this basis, an evaluation process on the use of outflowing groundwater was developed and applied inthe field. The application result proved that it was possible to assess the initial investment cost and the maintenance and management cost in the field, and thesecan be compared to the costs when supplied water is used, which makes it possible to apply in the field.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate nature-friendly design characteristics in brand apartments and to offer a basic information for planning of brand apartment. In concrete, nature-friendly design did by green space and water space that can analyze by visual, and investigation contents divided to position, form, user behavior, link space from user viewpoint by case study. This study examined a case of eight brand apartments located in Gangnamgu, Seoul. We has divided the characteristics of a green space into horizontal type, vertical type, multi-dimensional type and has divided the water space into stagnant water type, flowing stream type, waterfall type and fountain type. The findings are summarized as follows: First, in case of the space of brand apartment, the application of horizontal and vertical greenery was lower compare with multi-dimensional green space. The most of items for multi-dimensional greenery have been planned to the open space and promenade. Second, a stagnant water type of water space features well used in most of the cases but a water space of signs of activity like a flowing stream, waterfall, fountain types were underused because of problem of administrative and maintenance expenses. Thirdly, Water space of brand apartments was planned with specialization item by apartment housing but green space does not have differentiated item and was planned by most similar form.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of blast-furnace slag on chemical attack and carbonation of latex-modified concrete (LMC) and ordinary portland cement concrete as slag contents. Main experimental variables were performed latex contents (0%, 15%) and slag contents (0%, 30%, 50%). The compressive strengths, chemical attacks resistance and carbonation depth were measured to analyze the characteristic of the developed LMC and BS-LMC(latex-modified concrete added blast-furnace slag) on hardened concrete. The test results showed that compressive strength of BS-LMC with blast-furnace slag content 30% was quite similar to it of OPC without slag content. The structural quality deterioration was concerned when blast slag content was up to 50%. However, carbonation restraint of BS-LMC with blast-furnace slag 30% was bigger then that of opc. Also, the effects of added latex on OPC and BS-LMC were increased on the carbonation restraint and chemical attacks resistance.
