Pyrethroid insecticide have widely been used for agricultural sector and residential environments. To assess the exposure of insecticide which is absorbed through skin the analysis of urinary metabolite is essential. At present, the urinary 3-PBA was analyzed using liquid-phase extraction. But LPE have many limitations, such as long pre-treatment time and low recovery. So, this study was conducted to determine the optimum conditions for analysing 3-PBA in urine using solid phase extraction. Furthermore, this study intend to investigate the relation of concentrations of pyrethroid, deltamethrin in air and 3-PBA in urine. The optimum condition for hydrolysis was found to be done with hydrochloric acid for one hour. The recovery rates of 3-PBA were $84.6%{\pm}1.2%$, $54.8{\pm}0.9%$, $99.8{\pm}1.2%$ with XAD-2, XAD-7, XAD-16 using as the aborbents and acetone as eluents respectively. But acetonitrle and methanol gave low recovery rate and methyl cellosolve could not elute the compound. The amount of acetone for elution were 6mL, 9mL, 3mL for XAD-2, XAD-7, XAD-16 as absorbents respectively. The non-absorbed rates was $0.8{\pm}0.5%$, and $0.7{\pm}0.3%$ under XAD-16, mesh size 140-200, amount of resin 1.4g and the flow rate of eluent was 0.1mL/min. In the concentration process, we obtained 11 times higher concentration of material. The amounts of urinary 3-PBA were. The LODs of 3-PBA and deltamethrin were 0.004 mg/L, 0.038 mg/L, respectively. The further research of minute monitoring which include spray pattern, environmental condition is needed And more research about the relation between total pyrethroid exposure and urinary various metabolite are also necessary.
Pyrethroic acids are essential chiral intermediates of the pyrethroids, which account for about 25% of the world insecticide market and are found to be some of the most effective commercially available pesticides. It was demonstrated that polysaccharide-derived chiral stationary phases (CSPs) are very efficient for the separation of the enantiomers of pyrethroid acids. It was observed that the enantioseparation of pyrethroic methyl ester and ethyl derivatives was well accomplished on brush-type WhelkO-1. (omitted)
Karyotype of apterous green peach aphid (Myzus persicae SuIBer) populations occurring in tobacco fields and their resistance to insecticides were investigated. All of the 16 clones collected from tobacco fields had same chromosome number of 2n=12. Among them, 5 clones had the normal karyotype, regardless of color morph, but chromosomal translnations between #1 and #3 autosomal chromosomes were noted in the other 11 clones. All of the aphid clones were highly resistant tolambda cyhalothrin, a pyrethroid pesticide, having over 20 times higher concentrations of LD90 than recommended concentration (10ppm) for the aphid. However, their resistance to acephate, demeton 5-methyl and pirimicarh varied depending on the clones, among which green-colored clones were generally more resistant to the pesticides than red-colored ones. No association was found between the insecticide resistance and the karyotype of the aphid in this experiment.
The detection of many synthetic chemicals used in industry that may pose a genetic hazard in our environment is subject of great concern at present. In this respect, the genetic toxicity of fenpropathrin ((RS)-.alpha.-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl-2,2,3,3-tetramethyl cyclopropane carboxylate, CAS No.:39514-41-8), a pyrethroid insecticide, was evaluated in bacterial gene mutation system, chromosome aberration in mammalian cell system and in vivo micronucleus assay with rodents. In bacterial gene mutation assay, no mutagenicity of fenpropathrin (62-$5000\mug/plate$) was observed in Salmonella typhimurium TA 98, 100, 1535 and 1537 both in the absence and in the presence of S-9 metabolic activaton system. In mammalian cell system using chinese hamster lung fibroblast, no clastogenicity of fenpropathrin was also observed both in the absence and in the presence of metabolic activation system in the concentration range of $7-28\mug/ml$. And also, in vivo micronucleus assay using mouse bone marrow cells, fenpropathrin also revealed no mutagenic potential in the dose range of 27-105 mg/kg body weight of fenpropathrin (i.p.). Consequently, no mutagenic potential of fenpropathrin was observed in vitro bacterial, mammalian mutagenicity systems and in vivo micronucleus assay in the dose ranges used in this experiment.

Purpose: Pyrethroid is an insecticide that produces moderate intoxication in mammals, with neither exposure to skin nor inhalation resulting in severe systemic manifestations. In 2005 we made a nationwide survey of agrichemical human intoxication. The object of this study is to analyze pyrethroid intoxications based on the 2005 survey. Methods: We prospectively collected data from 1 August 2005 to 31 July 2006 by a standard investigation protocol. We analyzed demographic data, exposure data (cause, amount, ingredients), clinical features, and courses. Results: A total of 125 cases of pyrethroid intoxication were surveyed. The mean patient age was $56.78{\pm}16.158$ years old, and the mean amount ingested was $121.85{\pm}110.732ml$. Patients were classified into four severity groups according to symptoms and mental status: the asymptomatic group (27 patients, 21.6%), the mild symptom group (48, 38.4%), the moderate symptom group (21, 16.8%), and the severe symptom group (7, 5.6%). There were statistically significant differences in mental status, severity, and mean ICU days between two groups. Admission days by severity grade for the asymptomatic, mild, moderate, and severe symptom groups were $5.49{\pm}16.051,\;3.65{\pm}4.143,\;4.59{\pm}3.335,\;and\;8.14{\pm}7.199days$, respectively (p=0.047). Conclusion: Nationwide surveillance was extremely telling in uncovering a high frequency of agrichemical intoxication in Korea. In pyrethroid intoxication, severity grading can be a useful prognostic tool.

The electronic industries require environmentally-friendly and highly functional materials to enhance the quality of human life. Home appliances require insect repellent steels that work to protect household microwave ovens from incurring damage by insects such as fire ants and cockroaches in tropical regions. Thus, POSCO has developed new types of functional steels, coated with an array of organic-inorganic hybrid composites on the steel surface, to cover panels in microwave ovens and refrigerators. The composite solution uses a fine dispersion of hybrid solution with polymeric resin, inorganic and a pyrethroid additive in aqueous media. The hybrid composite solution coats the steel surface, by using a roll coater and is cured using an induction curing furnace on both the continuous galvanizing line and the electro-galvanizing line. The new steels were evaluated for quality performances, salt spray test for corrosion resistance and biological performance for both insect repellent and antimicrobial activity. The new steels with organic-inorganic composite coating exhibit extraordinarily biological functionalities, for both insect repellent and antimicrobial activities for short and long term tests. The composite-coating solution and experimental results are discussed and suggest that the molecular level dispersion of insecticide on the coating layer is key to biological functional performances.
Using racemic (R,S)-2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methylbutyramide, an intermediate for the chiral pyrethroid insecticide Esfenvalerate, as a sole nitrogen source in a minimal medium, several strains with high enatioselectivity (${\geq}98%$) were isolated by enrichment techniques. One of the strains, LG 31-3, was identified as Burkholderia multivorans, based on physiological and morphological tests by a standardized Biolog station for carbon source utilization. A novel amidase was purified from B. mutivorans LG 31-3 and characterized. The enzyme exhibited (S)-selective amidase activity on racemic (R,S)-2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methylbutyramide. Addition of the racemic amide induced the production of the enantioselective amidase. The molecular mass of the amidase on SDS-PAGE analysis was shown to be 50 kDa. The purified amidase was subjected to proteolytic digestion with a modified trypsin. The N-terminal and internal amino acid sequences of the purified amidase showed a high sequence homology with those deduced from a gene named YP_366732.1 encoding indole acetimide hydrolase from Burkholderia sp. 383.
This study was conducted to elucidate degradation pattern of two synthetic pyrethroid insecticides, bifenthrin having 2-methylbiphenyl group and cyhalothrin having ${\alpha}$-cyano benzyl ester group in theirs alcohol moiety, in two soils and aqueous media under laboratory conditions. The half-life of bifenthrin was 85.1 days and 12,4 days in Chilgok and Bokhyen soil of aerobic upland condition, respectively, and that of cyhalothrin was 54.6 days and 32.2 days. Bifenthrin and cyhalothrin were degraded very slowly under anaerobic flooded condition and sterilized. Their degradation seemed to be mainly mediated by aerobic microorganisms in soil. Bifenthrin and cyhalothrin were degraded more rapidly in Bokhyen soil with rich organic matter than Chilgok soil. Cyhalothrin was degraded 30 days faster than bifenthrin under aerobic upland condition of two soils. Cyhalothrin was degraded more than bifenthrin in alkaline solution of pH 10, but cyhalothrin and bifenthrin were degraded very slowly in acidic solution of pH 2 and 6.
Background: Pyrethroid insecticides account for more than 30% of the global insecticide market and are frequently used in agricultural settings and residential and public pest control among the general population. While several animal studies have suggested that exposure to pyrethroids can alter glucose homeostasis, there is only limited evidence of the association between environmental pyrethroid exposure and diabetes in humans. Objectives: This study aimed to report environmental 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (3-PBA) concentrations in urine and evaluate its association with the risk of diabetes in Korean adults. Methods: We analyzed data from the Korean National Environmental Health Survey (KoNEHS) Cycle 2 (2012~2014) and Cycle 3 (2015~2017). A total of 10,123 participants aged ≥19 years were included. Multiple logistic regressions were used to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) for diabetes according to log-transformed urinary 3-PBA levels. We also evaluated age, sex, education, monthly income, marital status, alcohol drinking, physical activity, urinary cotinine, body mass index, and sampling season as potential effect modifiers of these associations. Results: After adjusting for all the covariates, we found significant dose-response relationships between urinary 3-PBA as quartile and the prevalence of diabetes in pooled data of KoNEHS Cycles 2 and 3. In subgroup analyses, the adverse effects of pyrethroid exposure on diabetes were significantly stronger among those aged 19~39 years (p-interaction<0.001) and those who consumed high levels of cotinine (p-interaction=0.020). Conclusions: Our findings highlight the potential diabetes risk of environmental exposure to pyrethroids and should be confirmed in large prospective studies in different populations in the future.
In order to establish a whitefly control system using conventional groups of insecticide(carbamate, organophosphorus and pyrethroid insecticides), three alternative application methods were designed on the medium growth stage of cucumber. To discriminate the effectiveness of these sequences observed were the residual activity of insecticides, frequency of insecticide applications, residue of insecticides in cucumber leaves, development of insecticide resistance in whitefly, and yield of fruits. Spraying furathiocarb, a carbamate insecticide, was very effective in reducing the frequency of application for the control of white flies. The effectiveness of furathiocarb was enhanced by the potentiation process to carbofuran, the long residual activity, and the lower development rate of insecticide resistance. Methion, an organophosphorus insecticide, did not show resistance development after successive use but resulted in short residual activity. However, other organophosphates, profenofos and phenthoate, lost their activity by the resistance development. Decreasing activity was common to pyrethroids, deltamethrin and zetacypermethrin due to resistance. From these results it could be drawn a conclusion that furathiocarb, a carbamate insecticide, was the most desirable among conventional insecticide groups for the management of greenhouse whitefly population on the cucumber. To prevent an outbreak of the insect pest by various cause, it was recommended to choose acetamiprid, a nicotinoid, which showed very good control efficacy to the resistance insects to conventional insecticides.
