Phenomenological References : Arguments for Mentalistic Natural Language Semantics

  • In a prevailing view of meaning and reference (cf. Frege 1892), words pick out entities in the physical world by virtue of meaning. Linguists and philosophers have argued whether the meaning of a word is inside or out-side language users' mind; but, in general, they have taken it for granted that words refer to entities in the physical world. Hilary Putnam (1975), based on his famous twin-earth thought experiment, argued that the meaning of a word could not be inside language users' head. In this paper, I point out that Putnam's argument makes sense only if words refer to entities in the physical world. That is, Putnam did not provide any argument against mentalistic semantics, since he erroneously assumed that meaning, but not reference, was inside our mind in mentalistic semantics. Mentalistic semanticist, however, assume that words pick out their references inside our head (instead of a possible outside world). A number of arguments for the mentalistic position come from psychology: studies on emotion and visual perception provide numerous cases where words cannot pick out entities from the physical world, but inside our head. The mentalistic theory has desirable consequences for the philosophy of language in that some classical puzzles of language (e.g. Russell's (1919) well-known puzzle of excluded middle) are explained well in the proposed theory.

RE-ACCELERATION MODEL FOR THE 'SAUSAGE' RADIO RELIC

  • The Sausage radio relic is the arc-like radio structure in the cluster CIZA J2242.8+5301, whose observed properties can be best understood by synchrotron emission from relativistic electrons accelerated at a merger-driven shock. However, there remain a few puzzles that cannot be explained by the shock acceleration model with only in-situ injection. In particular, the Mach number inferred from the observed radio spectral index, Mradio ≈ 4.6, while the Mach number estimated from X-ray observations, MX−ray ≈ 2.7. In an attempt to resolve such a discrepancy, here we consider the re-acceleration model in which a shock of Ms ≈ 3 sweeps through the intracluster gas with a pre-existing population of relativistic electrons. We find that observed brightness profiles at multi frequencies provide strong constraints on the spectral shape of pre-existing electrons. The models with a power-law momentum spectrum with the slope, s ≈ 4.1, and the cutoff Lorentz factor, γe,c ≈ 3−5×104, can reproduce reasonably well the observed spatial profiles of radio fluxes and integrated radio spectrum of the Sausage relic. The possible origins of such relativistic electrons in the intracluster medium remain to be investigated further.

  • 본 논문에서는 수학게임과 관련한 장 단점, 수학게임 적용 시 유의사항 등을 살펴보고, 몇 가지 수학게임의 적용 실제 또는 수학적 사고 능력 함양의 새로운 가능성을 탐구하고자 한다. 이러한 과정을 현장에 적용하여 학습자의 수학적 사고의 발달과 수학적 성향을 개선시키는데 조금이나마 보탬이 되고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다.

Vygotsky의 발달이론에 따른 어머니의 상호작용전략과 유아의 자기판단력과의 관계분석 (The Relation between Mothers' Interaction strategies and Self-Regulation of Young Children)

  • This study was designed to investigate the relation between mother's interaction strategies and self-regulation of young children from a Vygotskian perspective. The hypotheses of this study were: 1) The self-regulation of young children will improve with increase in age, 2) the use of mothers' interaction strategies will increase as child's age decreases, 3) mothers' directiveness in the mother-child interaction depends on the age of child and socio-economic level, and 4) mothers' directiveness in the mother-child interaction will have negative relationship with child's self-regulation. The subjects of this study were 60 mother-child dyads with three different age-of-child groups (3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds). They were further divided into higher and lower socio-economic groups. A puzzle task was used for the measurement of self-regulation. The task consisted of two identical puzzles with one used as the model. The collected data were analyzed by ${\chi}^2$, one-way and two-way analysis of variance, and Pearson's r. Self-regulation of the young children improved with increase in age (P < .05). The use of mothers' interaction strategy decreased as the children's age increased (P < .05). Mothers' directiveness in the mother-child interaction was influenced by the age of child (P < .01) and by socioeconomic level (P < .05). There was a negative correlation (r=-.848) between the mothers' directiveness in the mother-child interaction and the child's self-regulation (P < .001).

  • 비트겐슈타인의 "논리-철학 논고"에서 '동일성'은 여러 중요한 의문들을 불러일으킨다. 비트겐슈타인의 '등식'이란 무엇인가? '등식'은 일반적으로 말하는 '동일성 진술'과 동일한가? 프레게는 동일성이 기호들 간의 관계가 아니라 대상(들) 간의 관계라고 주장한다. 그렇다면 비트겐슈타인은 이러한 프레게의 생각을 어떻게 비판하고 있는가? 또한 비트겐슈타인은 동일성에 대한 러셀의 정의에 대해서 명시적으로 비판한다. 그렇다면 그러한 비판의 요점은 무엇인가? 요컨대 동일성의 본성에 대한 전기 비트겐슈타인의 생각은 무엇인가? 나는 이 글에서 바로 이 물음에 대해 대답하고자 한다.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the articulation between the kindergarten and 1st grade in mathematics education. for this purpose, the problems of this study selected as follows :(ⅰ) What is the mathematical concepts related between the kindergarten curriculum and the 1st grade curriculum\ulcorner (ⅱ) How is the mathematics classroom in the kindergarten and 1st grade\ulcorner (ⅲ) Which instructional materials are used in the kindergarten and the 1st grade\ulcorner (ⅳ) What is the new direction of articulation between the kindergarten and first grade in mathematics education\ulcorner The results of this study are as follows : (ⅰ) According to examining each curriculum the focus is on understanding the basic concepts of number in the kindergarten, on the concepts of number, addition and subtraction in the 1st grade. (ⅱ) By being analyzed the mathematics classrooms of the kindergarten and the 1 st grade, it is different the focus of lessons or the teaching strategies. (ⅲ) As a result of analysing the teaching plans in the kindergarten and the survey in the first grade teachers, used instructional materials are manipulative ones. While mainly used materials are puzzles and blocks in kindergarten, a paduk stone, number cards, sankagi are used in 1st grade. (ⅳ) Finally, we propose the direction of articulation between the kindergarten and 1st grade in mathematics education.

하멜을 이용한 모바일 디지털 스토리텔링 (Mobile digital storytelling using Hamel)

  • "하멜"은 제주와 조선을 유럽에 최초로 알린 인물이라는 학술적 가치를 가지고 있지만, 도서를 제외한 디지털 콘텐츠의 개발은 전무한 상태이다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 "하멜" 캐릭터를 이용하고 제주의 문화를 소재로 하여, PDA의 장점인 휴대성, 멀티미디어 이용 등을 바탕으로 한 교육용 게임 콘텐츠를 제작하였다. 원시적인 점수 쌓기 게임 형식에서 탈피하여 게임 공간과 "하멜" 캐릭터의 인터렉션에 따른 다양한 시나리오를 가지는 형태로, 지역문화와 사이버 공간을 접목시키는 디지털 스토리텔링의 구조를 띈다. 게임을 통해 학습을 하는 방법에 있어 제주 특유의 문화 콘텐츠를 활용한 퀴즈, 십자 퍼즐, 순서 맞추기, 틀린 그림 맞추기, 조각 퍼즐 등의 게임을 이용하였다. 이러한 콘텐츠들은 각기 모듈화된 설계를 통해 각각의 모듈이 독립적 역할을 수행하여 약간의 조정만으로도 제주 외의 다른 지역의 콘텐츠를 이용하여 시리즈 형식의 무한한 게임 콘텐츠 제작이 가능하도록 설계하였다.

CAD 프로그램을 활용한 기하학 문양의 직물 디자인 종광설계 (Weave Draft Designs Influenced by Geometric Patterns using a CAD Program)

  • In textile industry, needs for various weave drafts have been increased to produce high qualified textile goods. One of disadvantages of traditional textile industry was spending time and money on manual sampling. Nowadays, however, weave draft design and sampling using CAD programs reduce these consumption efficiently. Therefore, this study aimed to provide high qualified woven fabrics by weave draft designs influenced by geometric patterns. First, We analyzed geometric patterns, except for dot, stripe, and checks, in fashion collections from 2009 to 2014 S/S. Then, based on these analyses, design concepts were decided. Third, weave drafts influenced by geometric patterns were designed with weave CAD program, TEX PRO 10.0 by Youngwoo CNI inc. Forth, We simulated fabrics woven by new drafts using CAD programs, depending on fibers, yarns, density of woven, colors, and finishes. Unclassified geometric patterns would be expressed by small size patterns that influenced by retro moods, square patterns with various color variation, zigzag lines, and pieces of puzzles. Three design concepts were decided as greenness, neoclassic, and romantic chic. Thus, geometric patterns for printing were created as drafts for general looms, and one repeat of each draft were provided. According to the design concepts, we designed 13 fabrics with 4 geometric patterns weaving drafts. All Drafts were designed with CAD programs. Finally, same drafts were simulated as woven fabrics for both S/S and F/W seasons by changing each element, such as fiber, yarns, density, colors, and finishes.

전인 교육을 위한 수학 학습 자료 개발.활용에 관한 연구 -대학수학능력시험 이후 고등학교 3학년을 대상으로- (A Study on Development and Utilization of the Mathematical Teaching Materials for the Whole Man Education -For the 3rd Graders in High School after the Scholastic Ability Test-)

  • In this information-oriented society of the 21st century, our education should combine the knowledge from the past and present in order to have students be ready to solve “the problems in the future”. But nowadays, our social situation makes much importance of the “cramming” education just for the College Scholastic Ability Test rather than the “whole man” education for making creative citizens of the future society. So does mathematics education. In a high school, mathematics education should be toward these aims: recognizing the value of math, applying mathematical principles to actual lives, promoting students' thinking ability. Also, it should focus on teaching higher level of mathematical knowledge which includes more logical and abstract idea so that students can prepare for the global society of the future. This study is about development and utilization of the teaching materials for mathematics class which usually deviates from the routine right after the Scholastic Ability Test finished. These materials are the result of a complete survey of the 3rd graders and their teachers and designed to use for 30 periods of class from after-the-test-finished to graduation. The materials consist of a history of mathematics, puzzles, magic number squares, and so on. Remarkably different from the current textbooks which deal with sets, equations, functions, these materials proved to be useful for their variety and attraction. Consequently, the materials are considered to keep the 3rd graders from forgetting mathematics even after the Scholastic Ability Test, and to help them recognize that mathematics is a kind of basic and cultural study and a tool of daily lives.

  • 본 논문에서는 스마트 기기를 이용하여 4-6세 유아와 부모를 사용자 계층으로 선정하여 교육내용과 더불어 관련 게임들을 통합하여 유아들이 공부에 대한 흥미를 잃어버리지 않고 집중력 있게 한글, 영어, 숫자를 학습할 수 있도록 유아학습용 모바일 에듀테이너 앱을 설계하였다. 부모들을 위해 다양한 매체와 유아의 집중력과 학습의 대한 흥미를 증가 시킬 수 있는 한글, 숫자, 영어 낱말카드들을 설계하였고, 그림찾기, 기억력게임, 퍼즐 맞추기 등 여러 가지 학습게임들 까지 제공 하였다. 또한 유아들이 공부를 하며 지루하지 않게 시각적인 학습과 청각적인 학습이 동시에 이루어질 수 있게 함으로써 엄마들이 더욱 편리하게 자녀의 학습을 지도할 수 있게 편리성과 이동성, 가용성을 극대화시켜 구현하였다.
