Measuring Preferences for Leaf Mustard Kimchi across Visit Purpose (방문목적에 따른 갓김치에 대한 구매 선호도 평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the combinated factors of leaf mustard kimchi which confer the highest utility on tourists, and to establish the relative factors of importance in terms of tourists' contribution to total utility to their tour purpose. Conjoint model, $X^2$ analysis, Max. Utility model, BTL model, Logit model, K-means cluster analysis, and one-way ANOVA analysis are used for this study. The findings from this study are as follows: First, the Pearson's R and Kendall's tau($\tau$) statistics shows that the model fits the data well to the tourists' visit purpose. Second, when they choose a sightseeing place, tourists' taste for food renowned in the local area is a very important factor. Third, the leaf mustard kimchi some tourists most prefer has light red color and mild taste, and they buy it in a shaped packing, at a cheap price and directly at the kimchi factory. The leaf mustard kimchi the other tourists most prefer has light red color and highly pungent taste, and they buy it in a shaped packing, at a cheap price and directly at the kimchi factory. Fourth, by the results of BTL model and Logit Model analysis, some tourists most prefer an experimental model of leaf mustard kimchi which has light red color and mild taste. They want to buy it in a shaped packing, at a cheap price and directly at the kimchi factory. The other tourists most prefer an experimental model of leaf mustard kimchi which has light red color and highly pungent taste. They want to buy it in a shaped packing, at a cheap price and directly in the kimchi factory. Finally, the writer hopes this study will provide the kimchi marketers with some insights into the types of popular leaf mustard kimchi designs that could be successfully developed.

Study on Factors for Efficacy and Purpose of Starting Business after Middle Aged Workers' Retirement (중년 직장인의 퇴직 후 창업효능감 및 창업의도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This study was intended to find out the factors affecting the efficacy and purpose of starting new business after their retirement of middle-aged office workers. The study also analyzed the relationship among these factors, founder's innovational mind, achievement desire, risk-taking mind and family support. For the purpose, questionnaires were collected 346 middle-aged employees working in Seoul and Kyonggi-do area. The findings were as follows. First, personal achievement desire and risk-taking mind strongly affected the efficacy of starting new business. Second, innovational mind, achievement desire and risk-taking mind had a positive effect on the purpose of starting new business. Third, family support had a moderate effect between achievement desire and the efficacy of the starting new business.

  • Accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) is a powerful detection technique with the exquisite sensitivity and high precision compared with other traditional analytical techniques. Accelerator mass spectrometry can be widely applied in the technique of radiocarbon dating in the fields of archeology, geology and oceanography. The ability of accelerator mass spectrometry to measure rare 14C concentrations in microgram and even sub-microgram amounts suggests that extension of 14C-accelerator mass spectrometry to biomedical field is a natural and attractive application of the technology. Drug development processes are costly, risky, and time consuming. However, the use of 14C-accelerator mass spectrometry allows absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) studies easier to understand pharmacokinetics of drug candidates. Over the last few decades, accelerator mass spectrometry and its applications to preclinical/clinical trials have significantly increased. For accelerator mass spectrometry analysis of biological samples, graphitization processes of samples are important. In this paper, we present a detailed sample preparation procedure to apply to graphitization of biological samples for accelerator mass spectrometry.

The Determinants of E-mail Use and it's Effects on the Organizational Effectiveness of Hospital Administrative Workers (병원행정직의 전자메일 사용의 영향요인 및 조직효과성 관계 연구)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the determinants of e-mail use and its effects on the organizational effectiveness of hospital administrative workers. Data were collected from 147 administrative workers at 2 university hospitals in Seoul using self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. The major findings of the study are as follows: 1. There are significant differences in the use of e-mail for business purpose in terms of the gender, age, status, and education level. Workers who are men, over 30s, high status, and highly educated were more likely to use the e-mail. As for the private use, there are significant differences only in terms of the age level. 2. The more job characteristics need to use e-mail, the more workers have computer skills, and the more favorable the organizational culture is to using the e-mail, the more frequently the workers use the e-mail for both business and private purposes. 3. Job characteristics and personal computer skills have significant positive effects on the use of e-mail for business purpose. However, for the private purpose, only personal computer skills have a significant effect on the use of e-mail. 4. The level of the e-mail use for the business purpose has a significant effect on the work productivity, communication, and job satisfaction, while the level of the e-mail use for the private purpose has a significant effect only on the communication and job satisfaction. The implications for hospital administrators and suggestions for further research are discussed.

A Survey on Head Nurses' Perceptions and Performances on Staff Evaluation (수간호사가 활용하는 근무성적 평정에 관한 조사연구)

  • This study was designed and carried out to identify the methodologies of the staff evaluation used by the headnurses and their perception on the purpose of the evaluations, and to measure the degree and type of perceived purpose and the degree of implementation of staff evaluation principles into preactice. A hundred and eleven from four general hospitals with 600 beds and over were conveniently sampled. Data were gathered from August 20, through September 10, 1994 ; demographic data of respondents and 'methodologies used for staff evaluation' by questionaires, level of 'perceived purposes of staff evaluation' and level of implementation of the 'principles of staff evaluation into practice' by Likert-type rating scales developed by the researcher. Raw and percentile scores and means were calculated and data were processed further by t-tests and ANOVA. Results are as follows ; 1. Traditional methodlogies : checklists(90.1%) and ranking methods(45.9%) revealed to be the two mostly prefered and used methods. 2. Of the 20 item-descriptions of the 'purpose of staff evaluation': 10 'control, evaluative' and 10 'non-control, developmental' the first(mean=3.19) to the ninth(mean=2.74) in rank order revealed to be the 'control, evaluative purpose', while the tenth in rank order revealed to be the first among the 'non-control, evaluative' item(mean-1.57). 3. Level of purpose of staff evaluation perceived as 'control ; evaluative'(mean=43.76, S.D.=5.01) revealed to be significantly(t=-3.86, p<.05) highter than 'non-control ; developmental'(mean=40.65, S.D.=3.41). 4. Level of implementation of 'staff evaluation principle into practice' revealed to be moderately high(mean=2.40).

  • For the determination of a reservoir capacity Rippl's mass-curve method has long been used with the past river flow data assuming the same flow records will be repeated in the future. In this study the synthetic generation methods of thomas-Fiering type and harmonic analysis were used to synthetically generate 50 years of monthly river inflows to three single-purpose reservoris(Chuncheon, Chungpyong, Hwacheon) and three multi-purpose reservoirs(Soyany, Andon, Daichung). The generated sequences of monthly flows were analyzed based on the range concept, and hence the so-determined ranges for single-prupose and multi-purpose rewervoirs were correlated with the number of monthly flow subseries, resulting an empirical equation of the Feller's type. (1) Single-purpose reservoir $$R_n=2.8357 I\sqrt{n}$$ (2) Multi-purpose reservoir $$R_n=2.5145 I\sqrt{n}$$ where, $R_n$:Range(㎥/S-M) n:periodic(12 months, ……120 months) I:Input mean(㎥/S-M) In Korea, the monthly inflow data generation will be fit to the Thomas-Fiering type, and this paper shows that the periodic range is easily calculated without the Rippl's mass-curve method as shown above formula.

  • Purpose: This paper provides an idea on the future prospect for change in steps of the six sigma DMAIC project under the environment of the 4th industrial revolution. Methods: First, the purpose and activities required in each step of DMAIC are reviewed. Next, activities are reviewed together with tools and techniques, considering the purpose and the environmental changes of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Finally, the best approaches for achieving the purpose are prospected to get an idea on future change. Results: The purpose of each phase of DMAIC is expected to remain unchanged. But activities, techniques, or methods will be replaced with more effective and efficient ones. Also, many activities may possibly be executed by a system instead of people like BB, GB or team members. Moreover, DMAIC may not be a project any more but a routine job of the system in the future. Conclusion: Under the environment of the 4th industrial revolution, many activities including analyzing various types of data and extracting valuable information, will be executed by a system with proper algorithms instead of people. And six sigma improvement projects may be intrinsic parts of the system and may not exist as separate projects any more.

Oxidative Stress in the Cell and Antioxidant Activity of Kalopanax Pictus Extracts (음나무 추출물의 세포 내 산화 스트레스와 항산화 활성)

  • This study reviewed the application of an extract from Kalopanax pictus stem bark and root bark as natural antioxidants. To investigate the effect on cell toxic level against transformed mouse fibroblast L929 in formula added with various extracts from Kalopanax pictus stem bark and root bark, this experiment was carried out by in vitro cytotoxicity method. Using DCFA-DA method, oxidative stress in cell was measured with other antioxidant activity methods including DPPH assay and NBT assay. Active oxygen inhibition rate for root bark insoluble hot water extracts showed the highest with 57.9% for 15 min treatment. In DPPH and NBT test, antioxidant activities of methanol extract from stem bark and insoluble hot water extract from stem bark were 96% (at 0.1%) and 95% (at 0.5%), respectively.

Performance Evaluation of Water Supply for a Multi-purpose Dam by Deficit-Supply Operation (물 부족량 공급 운영 방식에 의한 다목적댐 물 공급의 안정성 평가)

  • In this study, a performance evaluation method of water supply for a multi-purpose dam based on deficitsupply method and reservoir storage is presented. The method is applied to 16 multi-purpose dams and water supply performance is evaluated. As a result, 6 dams (Soyanggang, Chungju, Hoengseong, Andong, Imha, and Hapcheon dam) have highest performance and 2 dams (Sumjingang and Buan dam) have relatively low performance. Particularly, Buan dam is the most vulnerable in the analysis results of reliability, resiliency, and vulnerability. Therefore, measures to improve the performance of water supply are needed in Buan multi-purpose dam.

Assessment of Economic Value of Sangkwan Multi-Purpose Reservoir (I): Benefits of Environmentally-Enhancing Water (상관 다기능 저류지 조성의 경제적 편익 평가(I): 환경개선용수 공급편익을 중심으로)

  • This study attempts to estimate the benefits of environmentally-enhancing water ensuing from Sangkwan multi-purpose reservoir. To this end, we apply a survey technique, the contingent valuation (CV) method to elicit the public willingness to pay (WTP). Two CV surveys of randomly selected households were administrated to on-site and off-site areas. As it happens, a number of respondents reported zero WTPs for the environmentally- enhancing water. To deal with the zero WTPs, this study employs a spike model. The results show that average household's WTP for the environmentally-enhancing water ensuing from Sangkwan multi-purpose reservoir is estimated to be 1,393.7 won for on-site area and 2,237.7 won for off-site area per year. The benefits of environmentally-enhancing water ensuing from Sangkwan multi-purpose reservoir amount to about 38.3 billion won per year. Our findings are expected to contribute to determining an appropriate level of investment and making management policies with regard to the benefits of environmentally-enhancing water.
