Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) represent a class of non-brittle refractory materials for harsh and extreme environments in aerospace and other applications. The quasi-ductility of these structural materials depends on the quality of the interface between the matrix and the fiber surface. In this study, a manufacture route is described where in contrast to most other processes no additional fiber coating is used to adjust the fiber/matrix interfaces in order to obtain damage tolerance and fracture toughness. Adapted microstructures of uncoated carbon fiber preforms were developed to permit the rapid infiltration of molten alloys and the subsequent reaction with the carbon matrix. Furthermore, any direct reaction between the melt and fibers was minimized. Using pure silicon as the reactive melt, C/SiC composites were manufactured with an aim of employing the resulting composite for friction applications. This paper describes the formation of the microstructure inside the C/C preform and resulting C/C-SiC composite, in addition to the MAX phases.
As a relatively new type of multi-layered rubber-based seismic isolators, fiber-reinforced elastomeric isolators (FREIs) are composed of several thin rubber layers reinforced with flexible fiber sheets. Limited analytical studies in literature have pointed out that "warping" (distortion) of reinforcing sheets has significant influence on buckling behavior of FREIs. However, none of these studies, to the best knowledge of authors, has investigated their warping behavior, thoroughly. This study aims to investigate, in detail, the warping behavior of strip-shaped FREIs by deriving advanced analytical solutions without utilizing the commonly used "pressure", incompressibility, inextensibility and the "linear axial displacement variation through the thickness" assumptions. Studies show that the warping behavior of FREIs mainly depends on the (i) aspect ratio (shape factor) of the interior elastomer layers, (ii) Poisson's ratio of the elastomer and (iii) extensibility of the fiber sheets. The basic assumptions of the "pressure" method as well as the commonly used incompressibility assumption are valid only for isolators with relatively large shape factors, strictly incompressible elastomeric material and nearly inextensible fiber reinforcement.

In this study, we analyzed fiber laser welding for the pure copper thin plates in a series of secondary lithium-ion batteries; and performed the experiment for the purpose of the preceding study to replace bolt joints method the with the laser welding method. We have changed the peak power of the laser from 5 to 6kW, the pulse duration by 4, 6, 8, and 10ms, the frequency by 10, 12, 16, and 25Hz, and the focal position by -3, 0, and +3. As a result, when the focal position is at +3, the peak power is 5kW, and the pulse duration and the Frequency are 4ms and 25Hz, respectively, we obtain 2.1 and 2.5 times better tensional strengths, respectively, than the highest values of tensional strengths obtained with the focal positions at 0 and -3.

In this study, we analyzed and compared the ultrasonic welding with the laser welding for the pure aluminium thin plates in a series of secondary lithium-ion batteries which are currently being produced by the ultrasonic welding; and performed the experiment for the purpose of the preceding study to replace the ultrasonic welding method with the laser welding method. As a result, the weld width of ultrasonic welding was 5mm, but that of laser welding was about 1~1.5 mm. As a result of tension test, the tensile strength was high when the pulse duration hour was short at the low peak power, while the high tensile strength was achieved when the pulse duration hour was long at the high peak power. The value of tensile strength was higher in the ultrasonic welding while the laser welding showed a maximum 45% better result as for the welding width.
Laser welding has superior characteristic such as low distortion, high welding speed, easy automation and real time control. But it is easy to occur weld defects such as porosity, crater, humping bead in the area of welding start and end. These weld defects can be suppressed by applying the wave shape control. In this study CW fiber laser was used for welding of $0.5mm^t$ pure titanium. Penetration properties were evaluated with the time of slope up and down. After then the bead shape was observed, and the maximum depth and the area of crater were measured. The bead shape of welding start area changed to be sharp with increase of slope up time and non-weld area of welding start increased. The crater and humping bead were suppressed with slope down time. The cooling rate of crater area was understood through measure of the hardness. Also, The distribution tendency of alloying elements was observed by EPMA and EDS. When wave shape control didn't applied to weld, the hardness of end weld increased due to rapid cooling rate and the hardness of rear part in the crater was higher than that of fore part. On the other hand, when the wave shape control was used for end weld, the increase of hardness in the end weld couldn't be found due to gradual cooling rate.

In this study, the effect of steel fiber utilization, boundary conditions, different beam cross-section, and length parameter are investigated on the free vibration behavior of fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete beam on elastic foundation. In the analysis of the beam model recommended by Euler-Bernoulli, a method utilizing Stokes transformations and Fourier Sine series were used. For this purpose, in addition to the control beam containing no fiber, three SCC beam elements were prepared by utilization of steel fiber as 0.6% by volume. The time-dependent fresh properties and some mechanical properties of self-compacting concrete mixtures were investigated. In the modelled beam, four different beam specimens produced with 0.6% by volume of steel fiber reinforced and pure (containing no fiber) SCC were analyzed depending on different boundary conditions, different beam cross-sections, and lengths. For this aim, the effect of elasticity of the foundation, cross-sectional dimensions, beam length, boundary conditions, and steel fiber on natural frequency and frequency parameters were investigated. As a result, it was observed that there is a noticeable effect of fiber reinforcement on the dynamic behavior of the modelled beam.
Pure zirconia ceramic fiber experiences severe volume changes through thermal cyclings of heating and cooling. Zirconia fiber was doped with CaO to stabilize the phase and its effect of CaO was studied on volumetric ratio of each phases, phase transition temperature and microstructure. Tetragonal phase was increased as CaO increases up to 10 mol% and cubic phase was stabilized when CaO was added more than 10 mol%. The average grain size of zirconia fiber was increased as CaO increased and transition temperature was shifted to lower temperature.
In case of pure rubber materials, the initial quality of the rubber materials would be excellent, however, the durability against external impact might be poor. In order to overcome the relatively low durability, textile cord could be employed with silicone rubber. We have studied the improvement of heat-resistant adhesion properties of silicone adhesives between silicone rubber and PET fibers by applying various conditions including dip solution recipe. The silicone rubber used was a platinum catalyst curing type and platinum catalyst type silicone adhesive was used as an adhesive to obtain an optimum adhesive force. Furthermore, the bonding mechanism between silicone and PET fiber was established.
This paper concerns the flexural behavior of hybrid steel fiber-reinforced ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) beams. It presents experimental research results of hybrid steel fiber-reinforced UHPC with steel fiber content of 1.5% by volume and steel reinforcement ratio of less than 0.02. This study aims at providing realistic information about UHPC beams in bending in order to establish a reasonable prediction model for flexural resistance in structural code in the future. The experimental results show that hybrid steel fiber-reinforced UHPC is in favor of cracking resistance and ductility of beams. The ductility indices range through 9.2 to 15.2, which means high ductility of UHPC. Also, the flexural capacity of beam which contains stirrups in pure bending zone is similar to that of beam which does not contain stirrups in pure bending zone. This result represents that the flexural capacity is not affected by the presence of stirrups whose spacing is 150 mm in bending zone.
Hemofilter was optimally designed and manufactured using polysulfone hollow fiber mem- brane with surface area of 0.6mE Molecular weight cut-off of the hemofilter was measured with polyethylene glycol and dextran aqueous solutions of various molecular weights and it was ranged from 9,500 to 38,900. Ultrafiltration rates were measured with pure water in a static system and flowing system. The clearance of urea, creatinlne, and vitamine BIB were measured using aqueous solutions.
