  • Rapid progress is being made in foundational technology research and engineering for the construction of floating offshore wind farms. There is active development of technology for detachable mooring systems, which have strengths in addressing maintenance issues that arise in floating offshore wind farms and enhance their economic viability. Conventional detachable mooring systems use Kenter links inserted into the middle of mooring chains, which require excessive time for retrieval by Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels during detachment operations. Moreover, these operations pose risks of link damage and accidents. Therefore, there is a demand for the development of a new concept of detachable mooring systems. The proposed detachable mooring system in this study simultaneously integrates a fairlead chain stoppers (FCS) and submersible mooring pulleys (SMP), which enables all operations to be conducted on the AHTS vessel without underwater tasks. This study detailed the design and safety evaluation of the SMP, a core component of the detachable mooring system, based on the minimum breaking load (MBL) of selected mooring lines according to the capacity of the floating platform. It referenced international codes (AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings D5, Pin-Connected Members) for design verification and performed finite element analysis to evaluate the strength of major components in installation and operation scenarios. Additionally, procedures and techniques for evaluating the structural strength of components under uncertain boundary conditions were proposed.

  • The rope winder in addition to the line hauler was used for recoiling of the main line to the rope pond at the stern, however, catching the loops, evenly revoiling and arrangements of the loops were done manually by two men. The automatic loop catcher under the rope winder was consisted with the rotary lever, semicircle guide plates, transfer belt and swing rope receiver for arrangements of the loops and evenly recoiling. The obtained results are as follows: 1. The minor diameter of a loop and the diameter of the coiling pile in a lead core PP rope(ø 10mm) are about 14cm and 60cm while the rope is piled on the bottom. 2. Distribution ratio of the loops within upper or lower 10cm from the transfer belt is 93% with a lead sinker and 98% without sinker using by the smaller loop catcher. 3. The relationship between revolutions of the rotary lever N sub(1) (rpm) and the hauling pulley N sub(p) (rpm) by gear ratio 3:1 in the smaller loop catcher is as follows: N sub(p) =2.86 N sub(1) +23.74 and optimum ratio of horizontal speed of the loops by the rotary lever to hauling speed is about 70%. 4. The rope receiver is swung front and rear for the evenly recoiling and its period can be controlled by gear ratio or hydraulic circuit in accordance with the interval of the loops.

  • In fishing with the anchovy boat seine, it is required to haul up the bag net without injuring anchovy body. Not to injure anchovy body, the bag net is operated with 30 to 34 crews in the traditional method. With a view point of decreasing crews, the authors tried to operate the bag net with side drum winch and derrick boom. Side drum winch was installed beside the engine casing and it was operated by the main engine through the belt, pulley and bevel gear. The derrick boom, 7 meters long, was installed above the working deck which is located in the stern of the common boat seiner. Three single blocks are attached to the boom, each 2 meters apart from the top. A hook was attached to the free end of the block line for hooking up the bolch line which attached inside the bag net especially prepared for the purpose. The hauling end of the block line was induced to the side drum winch for hauling up the bag net. By using this mechanism, the bag net was hauled up with peeling the bag net just like in the traditional method. So the following results are found. (1) No injury of anchovy body was found in the process of hauling up. (2) The bag net can be operated by mere 14 crews. (3) Duration, spent in hauling up the bag net, was almost the same when the catch are a little amount, and less duration was needed by the experimented method than the traditional one when the catch are a large amount. the bag net. • The authors carried out an experiment to find the optomotor response of killifish, Orizias latipes(TEMMINCK et SCHLEGEL) and Yellowtail, Seriola quinqueradiata (TEMMINCK et SCHLEGEL) according to the colors of the netting pattern on the visual screen and the revolving velocities of the visual screen. The experimental water tank was made of 0.5 cm thick transparent acryl in the cylindrical shape (100R$\times$42H cm). The water level in the tank was maintained 30cm high from the bottom. The colors of the netting pattern (mesh size: 19.1cm, width of netting twine: 1.5cm, hanging ratio: 84%) on the three visual screens were black, red and green respectively. The revolving velocities of the visual screen were controlled by pulley, bevel gear and variable speed motor in three steps; slow (15.0cm/sec), middle (37.4cm/sec) and high (62.9cm/sec). The fish was put into the water tank before each experiment and released in it for 30 minutes in order to acclimatize itself to the tank. The visual screen was revolved for 4 minutes per each experiment, at first the fish was released for 1 minute, and then the behavior of the fish was observed for 3 minutes. In the course of clockwise and counter clockwise experiments, 10 minutes-pause was given for the rest. The behavior of the fish was observed by video system, and rounding number and swimming speed of the fish were analysed. The results obtained are as follows: (1) Optomotor response rate of Killifish and yellowtail were 95% and 94% respectively. (2) Response of the fish according to the colors of the netting pattern on the three visual screens was best in black, and second in red and third in green. (3) Response of the fish according to the revolving velocities of the visual screen was best in high speed, and second in middle speed and third in slow speed.

  • The Cheomsungdae was built in the Silla dynasty during the reign of queen Seondeok. It has a round cylindrical structure with a flowing curved fa ade. The identity of the Cheomsungdae has not been revealed since there is not much historical evidence or documents about the building. This study is trying to investigate the building technique and method from the technical point of view of the past when it was constructed. There have been much work and studies done for the Cheomsungdae, but not much were focusing on the technical aspects of the building. In addition there are many questions and doubts about the hypothesis of the building technique of Cheomsungdae since there aren't any remaining documents or historical evidence supporting it. Among many questions, we think that the discussion on falsework technique is not considering traditional construction method of the Dujabee (a traditional construction technique using various tools and equipment for the stability of the building) technique. Therefore, it is hard to identify them as reliable historical facts. As the result of the study, we want to provide the basic data on the construction techniques of Korean traditional architecture and broaden the study scope of technical history by narrowing the errors. The study could be summarized into three points. 1. The historical architecture Cheomseongdae was constructed by using traditional crane techniques such as a Noklo (pulley ladder). Cheomseongdae was re-evaluated as a high level technology for the history of architecture. 2. The benchmark method on Cheomseongdae construction has been applied with a precise scientific method based on the geometrical principals using the central axis. 3. In terms of the history of Korean traditional architecture technology, as there aren't many studies done we proposed various basic data for the traditional crane techniques and criteria of Korean traditional architecture technology. We could expect various and active studies for the technical approach of the history of architecture.
