Isolation, Purification, and Structural Identification of an Antifungal Compound from a Trichoderma Strain

  • Trichoderma strain T-33 has been demonstrated to have inhibitory effect on the fungus species Cytospora chrysosperma. Here, an active antifungal compound was obtained from Trichoderma strain T-33 extract via combined separation technologies, including organic solvent extraction, liquid chromatography, and thin-layer chromatography. The purified compound was further characterized by advanced analytical technologies to elucidate its chemical structure. Results indicated that the active antifungal compound in Trichoderma strain T-33 extract is 2,5-cyclohexadiene-1,4-dione-2,6-bis (1,1-dimethylethyl).

  • The stabilization of the conductor in superconducting power cable is very important from the view point of protection. In this study, critical thicknesses of superconducting layer of $Nb_{3}Sn$ conductor and stabilizer Cu have been estimated under the adiabatic condition. The bending stress of $Nb_{3}Sn$/SUS composite superconducting tape on the curvature radius was also evaluated.

  • Following the ratification of Vienna Convention for Ozone Layer Protection and Montreal Protocol, Indonesia will implement the phasing-out of to halon at end 1996. Questions are increasing especially from the users where halon has used for many years as the most effective fire extinguishing agent, concerning halon substitutes, alternative systems as well as the handling and utilization of the existing halon. Halon can still be used for critical and essential uses, however, such usage has been gradually eliminated, due to the emergence of halon-like replacement. A concept of halon banking system is proposed to considered, taking into account several aspects such as enforced regulation, institutional involvement technology as well as financing. This paper gives a general overview regarding phase-out implementation, alternative extinguishing systems and concept on halon banking system with special reference to Indonesian case.

할론대체물질의 새로운 불꽃소화농도 측정장치에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Measurement of Flame Extinguishing Concentration of Halon Alternatives by New Test Equipment)

  • A new test system was established to measure the flame extinguishing concentration of Halon alternatives. The main characteristic of this system is to use the solid paraffin with a wick instead of liquid fuel, such as n-Heptane. Our results showed that the extinguishing concentration of compounds was lower than that of other existing data, but the trend was consistent with others. The flame extinguishing concentration of all tested compounds were not almost effected by gas flow velocity. The system produces good reliable data with a minimum error for measuring the flame extinguishing concentration. Therefore our new system can be utilized as a standard equipment to evaluate Halon alternatives.

  • This paper presents a blind video watermarking algorithm that has the robustness against spatial, temporal, and SNR scalability and transcoding for the copyright protection of video contents in heterogeneous multimedia service. The proposed process of watermark embedding and detecting is accomplished on base layer for considering spatial scalability. The watermark consists of the string and the ordering number of string for considering temporal scalability. Thus, each of frames has the bitstream of one character and a ordering number of its character. To robust against FGS, the proposed algorithm quantizes low and middle frequency coefficients in ROI region of each of frames and embeds its watermark bitstream into the specific bits of the quantized coefficients. Experimental results verified that the proposed algorithm satisfies the invisibility of watermark and also has the robustness against spatial scalability, temporal scalability and FGS.

  • 본 논문에서는 스마트폰에서 사물인터넷 기기로부터 수집한 데이터를 사물인터넷 서버로 전송할 때 프라이버시 보호를 지원할 수 있는 상류 프라이버시 보호 레이어를 제안한다. 제안 레이어는 프라이버시 정책에 따라 서버와 직접 연결, 프록시를 통한 연결, 가상사설망을 통한 연결, 그리고 익명 네트워크를 통한 연결을 동적으로 변경할 수 있고, 이를 통해 데이터 전송 효율의 저하를 최소화하면서도 프라이버시를 보호할 수 있다.

  • Industrial facilities need design to predict and reduce noise from design to prevent and reduce noise. The purpose of this study is to predict worker's environment and evaluate safety by analyzing noise inside underground blower room and air compressor room with fluid machinery in waste facility. This waste incineration facility was analyzed based on the ground floor, ground floor blower chamber, and air compressor chamber. The results of SPL(Sound Pressure Level) analysis at 1.5m away, which are frequently used to measure the SPL as a noise source, are as follows. SPL of basement level: 46.80[dB], SPL of ground layer: 48.57[dB]. As a result, it was expected that the noise level would be considerably lower than the 8 hours 50[dB] noise exposure per day.

Mucin in cancer: a stealth cloak for cancer cells

  • Mucins are high molecular-weight epithelial glycoproteins and are implicated in many physiological processes, including epithelial cell protection, signaling transduction, and tissue homeostasis. Abnormality of mucus expression and structure contributes to biological properties related to human cancer progression. Tumor growth sites induce inhospitable conditions. Many kinds of research suggest that mucins provide a microenvironment to avoid hypoxia, acidic, and other biological conditions that promote cancer progression. Given that the mucus layer captures growth factors or cytokines, we propose that mucin helps to ameliorate inhospitable conditions in tumor-growing sites. Additionally, the composition and structure of mucins enable them to mimic the surface of normal epithelial cells, allowing tumor cells to escape from immune surveillance. Indeed, human cancers such as mucinous carcinoma, show a higher incidence of invasion to adjacent organs and lymph node metastasis than do non-mucinous carcinoma. In this mini-review, we discuss how mucin provides a tumor-friendly environment and contributes to increased cancer malignancy in mucinous carcinoma.

Nordic research and development cooperation to strengthen nuclear reactor safety after the Fukushima accident

  • A comprehensive study of photon interaction features has been made for some alloys containing Pd and Ag content to evaluate its possible use as alternative gamma radiations shielding material. The mass attenuation coefficient (${\mu}/{\rho}$) of the present alloys was measured at various photon energies between 81 keV - 1333 keV utilizing HPGe detector. The measured ${\mu}/{\rho}$ values were compared to those of theoretical and computational (MCNPX code) results. The results exhibited that the ${\mu}/{\rho}$ values of the studied alloys are in same line with results of WinXCOM software and MCNPX code results at all energies. Moreover, Pd75/Ag25 alloy sample has the maximum radiation protection efficiency (about 53% at 81 keV) and lowest half value layer, which shows that Pd75/Ag25 has superior gamma radiation shielding performance among the compared other alloys.
