Acer tegmentosum which is belongs to Aceraceae has been widely used as a traditional medicine for the treatment of lots of diseases including pain management. In this study, we evaluated the anti-nocicepitve effects of methanolic extract of A. tegmentosum (MAT) in mice using various pain models. MAT presented strong and dose-dependent anti-nociceptive activities on thermal nociception models such as tail-immersion test and hot plate test. Moreover, acetic acid-induced chemical nociception was signigicantly reduced by MAT treatment. We could confirm MAT's central and peripheral analgesic properties by formalin test. We also found that the pre-treatment of opioid receptor antagonist did not alter the MAT's anti-nociception, suggesting opioid receptor is not involved in analgesic activity of MAT. Based on our results, we could conclude that MAT may be possibly used as an anti-nociceptive agent for the treatment of various nociceptive pains.
Catheter fragment and embolism are both potentially serious complications associated with the use of an intravenous (IV) catheter for contrast media bolus injection, and may be followed by serious or lethal sequelae. Though catheter fragment is a rare complication of IV catheter insertion, especially in peripheral veins, CT can be used to detect residual fragment. This study demonstrates the utility of MDCT to localize a small, subtle peripheral venous catheter, which can be easily reformatted of MDCT reformations. Various 3D techniques such as MPR and MIP, volume rendering, and shaded-surface displays are currently available for reconstructing MDCT data. Advances in MDCT technology contribute substantially to the detection and accurate localization of smaller IV catheter fragment.

Supernumerary tooth is developed from overgrowth of dental laminar and is mainly observed in the maxillary anterior area, named 'mesiodens. Mesiodens cause many problems such as malposition of permanent anterior tooth, diastema, formation of cyst, and eruption to oral or nasal cavity. Extraction, therefore, is generally recommended choice of treatment. This case report describes that the patient is a 9 years and 8 months old boy, whose unilateral maxillary incisor was missing due to trauma, and he had a mesiodens. We practiced autotransplantation of the mesiodens to the missing maxillary central incisor area and then restored with prosthetics, substantially kept out alveolar bony resorption and provided esthetic appearance. Mesiodens was too small to be used as an abutment because its length is totally 14mm, so that poor prognosis was anticipated due to bad crown/root ratio. However, we observed clinically acceptable result during the observation period of 8 months after operation.

Centric relation is defined the horizontal position between maxilla and mandible when condylar head of mandible is positioned adequately in mandibular fossa. The most recent concept of centric relation position is defined as the mandibular position in which the condyles are in their most superoanterior position in the articular fossa, resting against the posterior slope of the articular eminences, with the articular disk properly interposed. To be suitable as a reference point during occlusal management, a mandibular position of centric relation has to be functionally acceptable to the patient and clinically reproducible and achievable during everyday practice. There are numerous methods for determination of centric relation, and in this study we used three of them, Gothic arch tracing(Group I), leaf gauge(Group II), and anterior jig(Group III). The subjects were 10, 8 men and 2 women, age-ranged from 23 to 26 years old, had no prosthetics in thier mouth, and had no sign and symptom of temporomandibular disorders. We gained three occlusal records using each method, and then the degree of the reproducibility was examined with split cast technique. In this study the reproducibility of centric relation using split cast technique was greater in the order of Group I(mean 1.6), Group II(mean 1.4), and Group III(mean 1.3), but there was no significant differences among them statistically(p>0.05).
This study was designed to determine the effects of different widths in the base of support (BOS) on trunk and lower extremity muscle activation during upper extremity exercise. Twenty-seven healthy male subjects volunteered for this study. Exercises were performed for a total of 10 trials with a load of 10 repetitions maximum (10 RM) for each of the various widths of BOS (10 cm, 32 cm, 45 cm). The width of a BOS is the distance between each medial malleoli when a subject was in a comfortable standing position. Electromyography was used to determine muscle activation. Surface bipolar electrodes were applied over the tibialis anterior, medial gastrocnemius, biceps femoris, rectus femoris, gluteus maximus, upper rectus abdominis, and elector spinae muscle. Electromyographic (EMG) root mean square (RMS) signal intensity was normalized to 5 seconds of EMG obtained with a maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC). The data were analyzed by atwo-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA) with repeated-measures ($3{\times}7$) and Bonferroni post hoc test. The results were as follows: (1) There were significant differences in the width of the BOS (p=.006). (2) The post hoc test showed significant differences with the BOS between 10 cm and 32 cm, between 10 cm and 45 cm and between 32 cm and 35 cm (p=.008, p=.003, p=.011). (3) There was no interaction with the BOS and muscle. (p=.438) There were no significant differences in the muscle activation (p=.215).

Lindera obtusiloba has been widely used as a traditional medicine for the treatment of lots of diseases, including abdominal pain, bruise, and hepatocirrhosis. Here in this study, we elucidated the lifespan-extending effect of methanolic extract of Lindera obtusiloba (MLO) using Caenorhabditis elegans model system. We found that MLO has potent lifespan extension activities under normal culture condition. Then, we determined the protective effects of MLO on the stress conditions such as osmotic, thermal and oxidative stress. To reveal possible mechanism of MLO-mediated lifespan, we further investigated the effect of MLO on the antioxidant enzyme activities and intracellular ROS levels. Our results demonstrated that superoxide dismutase and catalase activities were significantly up-regulated by MLO treatment, resulted in reduced intracellular ROS levels. In this work, we also tested whether MLO-mediated longevity activity was associated with aging-related factors such as food intake and growth. Our data revealed that both of pharyngeal pumping rate and body length were significantly shifted by MLO treatment, indicating these factors were involved in MLO's lifespan-extension effects. Although MLO induces reduction in food intake, the body movement of MLO-fed aged worms was not decreased, compared to untreated control worms, indicating MLO might extend lifespan without affecting healthspan.
Dental implant has become one of the important option for completely or partially edentulous patients, But it is challenging to reconstruct the severely atrophic ridge. Insufficient bone volume could restrict to place the wide and long implant and because of excessive interocclusal clearance, improper prosthetics could be produced. In this case bone augmentation for implant dentistry is necessary procedure to improve the insufficient bone volume. Therefore, bone augmentation or GBR is the most important procedure for successful implant placement and for ideal crown- root ratio. There are various bone augmentation techniques have been introduced recently; like block bone graft, distraction osteogenesis, inlay graft, onlay graft, etc.... In severe bucco-lingual resorption area, ridge splitting is the first choice of the treatment, because it provides a place for implantation and also has compaction effect. This technique may be indicated for sharp mandible and maxillary ridges in patients whose bone quantity is inadequate for primary stabilization. We report that the clinical experience of bone augmentation using ridge splitting technique in bucco-lingual bone resorption area.
Purpose: This study was designed to evaluate characteristics of foot pressure distribution with or without partial prosthetic foot in transmetatarsal amputee. Materials and Methods: The subjects were 9 transmetatarsal amputees. Foot pressures were measured at hallux, the $1^{st}-5^{th}$ metatarsal head (MTH), mid-foot, condyle area by F-scan system in amputated or contralateral foot during active walking. Results: In amputated foot, mean peak pressure was greatest in midfoot without prosthetic foot but it was greatest in hindfoot with prosthetic foot. In unaffected foot, although mean peak pressure was higher in hallux, and $1-5^{th}$ MTH compared to amputated foot, it was greatest in hind foot both with and without prosthetic foot. However, in unaffected foot, mean peak pressure significantly decreased in hallux and $5^{th}$ MTH after wearing the prosthetic foot. There was a significant difference in mean peak pressure in hallux and $5^{th}$ MTH between amputated and unaffected foot after wearing prosthetic foot. However, other region had no significant difference with or without prosthetic foot between feet. Conclusions: The use of partial prosthetic foot tends to shift weight bearing from the heel area to forefoot and could significantly reduce hind foot peak pressure and redistributed to peak pressure. The partial prosthetic foot can also offer the peak pressure to reduction both amputated foot and unaffected foot and help to toe off during walking.
This study has surveyed patient education and counseling, based on the data you want to utilize the expectations on dental prosthetic appliances (denture, bridge) and implants among 307 workers who participated in reservists mobilization training of Hyundai Heavy Industries located in Ulsan City. The reliability of expectations on dental prosthetic appliances and implants were fairly high at cronbach'${\alpha}$ of .971 and .967 respectively. The collected data was analyzed through IBM SPSS Statistics. v. 19.0 program at the significance level of 0.05. The research findings are as follows. First, the expectations on prosthetic appliances scored an average of 3.98. Second, the expectations on implants scored an average of 3.74. Third, the expectations on implants depending on subjective health status scored an average of 3.74, which were statistically significant (p=0.003). Fourth, the differences in expectations on implants depending on the concerns for oral hygiene care scored an average of 3.74, which were statistically significant (0<0.001). Fifth, the expectations on prosthetic appliances and implants were strongly correlated at 0.392. As a result of implants of prosthodontics need for accurate information transfer.

Purpose: Rehabilitative devices are used to enhance sensorimotor training protocols, for improvement of motor function in the hemiplegic limb of patients who have suffered a stroke. Sensorimotor integration feedback systems, included with these devices, are very good therapeutic frameworks. We applied this approach using electrical stimulation in stroke patients and examined whether a functional electric stimulation-assisted biofeedback therapy system could improve function of the upper extremity in chronic hemiplegia. Methods: A prototype biofeedback system was used by six subjects to perform a set of tasks with their affected upper extremity during a 30-minute session for 20 consecutive working days. When needed for a grasping or releasing movement of objects, the functional electrical stimulation (FES) stimulated the wrist and finger flexor or extensor and assisted the patients in grasping or releasing the objects. Kinematic data provided by the biofeedback system were acquired. In addition, clinical performance scales and activity of daily living skills were evaluated before and after application of a prototype biofeedback system. Results: Our findings revealed statistically significant gradual improvement in patients with stroke, in terms of kinematic and clinical performance during the treatment sessions, in terms of manual function test and the Purdue pegboard. However, no significant difference of the motor activity log was found. Conclusion: Hemiplegic upper extremity function of a small group of patients with chronic hemiparesis was improved through two weeks of training using the FES-assisted biofeedback system. Further research into the use of biofeedback systems for long-term clinical improvement will be needed.
