  • Estimation of population proportion like the distribution rate of LED TV and the prevalence of a disease are often estimated based on survey sample data. Population proportion is generally considered as a special form of population mean. In complex sampling like stratified multistage sampling with unequal probability sampling, the denominator of mean may be random variable and it is estimated like ratio estimator. In this research, we examined the estimation of distribution rate based on stratified multistage sampling, and determined some numerical outcomes using stratified random sample data with about 25% of missing observations. In the data used for this research, the survey weight was determined by deterministic way. So, the weights are not random variable, and the population distribution rate and its variance estimator can be estimated like population mean estimation. When the weights are not random variable, if one estimates the variance of proportion estimator using ratio method, then the variances may be inflated. Therefore, in estimating variance for population proportion, we need to examine the structure of data and survey design before making any decision for estimation methods.

  • To make an accurate retrieval of the proportion of each category among mixed pixels (Mixel's) of a remotely sensed imagery, a maximum likelihood estimation method of category proportion is proposed. In this method, the observed multispectral vector is considered as probability variables along with the approximation that the supervised data of each category can be characterized by normal distribution. The results show that this method can retrieve accurate proportion of each category among Mixel's. And a index that can estimate the degree of error in each category is proposed. AS one of the application of the proportion estimation, a method for image classification based on category proportion estimation is proposed. In this method all pixel in a remotely sensed imagery are assumed to be Mixel's, and are classified to most dominant category. Among the Mixel's, there exists unconfidential pixels which should be categorized as unclassified pixels. In order to discriminate them, two types of criteria, Chi square and AIC, are proposed for fitness test on pure pixel hypothesis. Experimental result with a simulated dataset show an usefulness of proposed classification criterion compared to the conventional maximum likelihood criterion and applicability of the fitness tests based on Chi square and AIC,

  • EM algorithm has good convergence rate for numerical procedures which converges on very small step. In the case of proportion estimation in a mixed distribution which has very big incomplete data or of update of new data continuously, however, EM algorithm highly depends on a initial value with slow convergence ratio. There have been many studies to improve the convergence rate of EM algorithm in estimating the proportion parameter of a mixed data. Among them, dynamic EM algorithm by Hurray Jorgensen and Titterington algorithm by D. M. Titterington are proven to have better convergence rate than the standard EM algorithm, when a new data is continuously updated. In this paper we suggest dynamic EM algorithm and Titterington algorithm for the estimation of a mixed Poisson distribution and compare them in terms of convergence rate by using a simulation method.

  • Estimation procedure of the finite population proportion and distribution function is considered. Based on a logistic regression model, an approximately model- optimal estimator is defined and conditions for the estimator to be design-consistent are given. Simulation study shows that the model-optimal design-consistent estimator defined under a logistic regression model performs well in estimating the finite population distribution function.

  • In this paper, we study Bayesian estimation for the finite population proportion in binary data under selection bias. We use a Bayesian nonignorable selection model to accommodate the selection mechanism. We compare four possible estimators of the finite population proportions based on data analysis as well as Monte Carlo simulation. It turns out that nonignorable selection model might be useful for weekly biased samples.

  • In this paper we deal with the small area estimation for the case that the response variables take binary values. The mixed effects models have been extensively studied for the small area estimation, which treats the spatial effects as random effects. However, when the spatial information of each area is given specifically as coordinates it is popular to use the geographically weighted logistic regression to incorporate the spatial information by assuming that the regression parameters vary spatially across areas. In this paper, relaxing the linearity assumption and propose a geographically weighted kernel logistic regression for estimating small area proportions by using basic principle of kernel machine. Numerical studies have been carried out to compare the performance of proposed method with other methods in estimating small area proportion.

  • Basu et al. (1998) proposed a new density-based estimator, called the minimum density power divergence estimator (MDPDE), which avoid the use of nonparametric density estimation and associated complication such as bandwidth selection. Woodward et al. (1995) examined the minimum Hellinger distance estimator (MHDE), proposed by Beran (1977), in the case of estimation of the mixture proportion in the mixture of two normals. In this article, we introduce the MDPDE for a mixture proportion, and show that both the MDPDE and the MHDE have the same asymptotic distribution at a model. Simulation study identifies some cases where the MHDE is consistently better than the MDPDE in terms of bias.

  • This paper presents various interval estimation methods of binomial proportion for small n in multi-product small volume production and extremely small ^P like PPM or PPB fraction of defectives. This study classifies interval estimation of binomial proportion into three categories such as exact, approximate, Bayesian methods. These confidence intervals proposed in this paper can be applied to attribute process capability and attribute acceptance sampling plan for PPM or PPB.

Bayesian estimation of transition probabilities in two successive occasions is suggested via Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm and its applicability is represented in a numerical example.
