  • In this paper, using B-splines as universial approximators, we have obtained a plant parametrization which permits the construction of an adaptive observer. The particular property of this parametrization is that the dynamic order of the filters in this design does not depend on the number of parameters in the plant parametrization. This appears to be a beneficial property especially because the number of such parameters tends to be very high for universial approximator based designs.

  • In the recognition of similar patterns like profile contours of human faces, feature measure plays important role. We extracted effective and general feature by B-spline approximation. The nodes and vertices of the approximated curve are normalized and used as features. Since the features have both local property of curvature extrema and global property by B-spline approximation, they are superior to those of curvature extrema of the profile contour. For the image data of six sets of 56 persons, some of which are ill-made, averaged accuracy rate of 97.6 % is obtained in recognizing combinational 333 test samples.

  • The objective of this study was to identify the fermentation characteristics of Bacillus thuringiensis and emetic, non-emetic Bacillus cereus using analytical profile index (API) test. Ten strains of B. thuringiensis and 10 strains of B. cereus including 3 strains of emetic type were used at the same concentrations. The differences of fermentation characteristics between the B. thuringiensis and B. cereus was not obvious, but the differences between the non-emetic and emetic B. cereus were distinctive. Seven among 50 substrates were negative for all non-emetic B. cereus strains and positive for all emetic strains, and three substrates among additional 12 substrates had the same tendency. From these differences, 3 emetic B. cereus strains were not indicated as B. cereus by API test. These results indicate that API test is not a suitable method to identify some strains of emetic B. cereus, and the distinctive differences in substrate utilization can be used to improve selective media.

  • Wiener measure $m({\lambda}B)$ can behave arbitrarily badly as a function of ${\lambda}$ for Wiener measurable sets B. We show however that $m({\lambda}B)$ is Borel measurable with respect to ${\lambda}$ for any Borel subset B of $C_0$[0, 1].

  • The purpose of this study is 1) to analyse the bending property of the fused fabric and each component of the fused fabrics. 2) to examine the effect of fusing temperature on the bending property of the fused interlining and fused fabrics. 3) to examine the changes of B/W, 2HB/W and TAV of the fused fabrics according to the types of face fabric, interlining, fusing temperature. Five types of wool fabric, four types of shingosen fabric and four types of interlining were used for this study. The fusing condition in this study were the three types of fusing temperature of 10$0^{\circ}C$, 12$0^{\circ}C$, 14$0^{\circ}C$, the pressure of 4 kgㆍf/$cm^2$, and pressing time of 12 seconds. The results obtained from this study were as follows. 1) The bending rigidities and hysteresis of fabrics after fusing were increased. The bending behavior of fused fabrics were governed by the bending behavior of face fabric and interlinings and $\alpha$$_{B}$ values. 2) The KES standardized basic values of B/W and 2HB/W were increased after fusing. The B/Ws of fused fabrics were mainly determined by the $\alpha$$_{B}$ values of interlinings. The 2HB/Ws of fused fabrics seemed to be controlled by the fusing temperature. 3) The changes of TAVs of wool fused fabrics differed from those of shingosen fused fabrics. As the $\alpha$$_{B}$ values of fabric were larger and fusing temperature were increased, the TAVs of wool fused fabrics were smaller though those of shingosen fused fabrics were larger. 4) The TAVs of fused fabrics were highly correlated with the B/Ws of fused fabrics. In the case of wool fused fabrics, the TAVs of fused fabrics were negativly correlated with the 2HB/Ws of wool fabrics and used interlinings.nings.

  • The change of phosphorescent property with chemical modification and co-doping of Nd as an auxiliary activator in CaAl$_2$$O_4$: Eu\ulcorner, Nd\ulcorner phosphor, employing Nd\ulcornerion(0.6%) and an co-activator maintained its afterglow for 4.5 hours. And also the initial persistent brightness and phosphorescent property were further improved both by substituting Al by B atoms and incorporation of Nd\ulcorner ion. It was found that the persistent time was 30 hours for&Ca(Al_{0.97}\;B_{0.03}) $_2$$O_4$:EU\ulcorner(0.3%), Nd\ulcorner(0.6%) phosphor.

  • Keskin and Harmanci defined the family B(M,X) = ${A{\leq}M|{\exists}Y{\leq}X,{\exists}f{\in}Hom_R(M,X/Y),\;Ker\;f/A{\ll}M/A}$. And Orhan and Keskin generalized projective modules via the class B(M, X). In this note we introduce X-local summands and X-hollow modules via the class B(M, X). Let R be a right perfect ring and let M be an X-lifting module. We prove that if every co-closed submodule of any projective module P contains Rad(P), then M has an indecomposable decomposition. This result is a generalization of Kuratomi and Chang's result [9, Theorem 3.4]. Let X be an R-module. We also prove that for an X-hollow module H such that every non-zero direct summand K of H with $K{\in}B$(H, X), if $H{\oplus}H$ has the internal exchange property, then H has a local endomorphism ring.

  • The absorption coefficient and backscattering properties of phytoplankton were calculated from the Mie theory. Given a simple case that phytoplankton and mineral particles are the only constitutions in seawater, the reflectance $b_b({\lambda})/[a({\lambda})+b_b({\lambda})]$was analyzed. Then the chlorophyll concentrations were estimated from remote sensing OC2 algorithm. The results show that reflectance in short wavelength region is more sensitive to the Chl variation; High mineral concentrations in seawater have significant influence on the reflectance spectrum; the existence of high mineral concentration may result in the mistake in chlorophyll estimation from OC2 algorithm.
