In order to use viscoelastic materials efficiently for noise and vibration control, or th qualify newly developed materials, knowledge of the Young' s modulus and loss factor is essemtial. These material properties, the so-called complex Young' s modulus, are frequently treated as dynamic charicteristics because of their dependence upon the frequency. Many techniques have been developed and verified for measuring complex Young' s modulus of viscoelastic materials. Among them, the impedance method is preferable in order to obtain the frequency information in detail. In this method, a cylindrical or prismatic specimen is excited into longitudinal harmonic vibration at one end, the other being fixed, and the resulting force is measured at the driving or fixed end. The amplitude ratio of the two signals and phase angle between them are then used to compute the material properties using various mathematical models. In this paper, the impedance method is investigated theoretically and experimentally. A way to determine the specimen geometry which is most appropriate for the identification of complex Young' s modulus using the lumped mass model is presented and discussed. Then experimental results supporting the theoretical predictions are presented.

This article summarises the traditional method of soil-structure interaction based on the modulus of subgrade reaction and shows its weakness. In order to avoid these weakness, a new soil-structure interaction model is proposed. This model considers the soil as a set of connected springs which enables interaction between springs. Its use is as simple as the traditional model but allows to define the soil properties independently from the structural properties and the loading conditions. Thus, the definition of the modulus of subgrade reaction is unnecessary as each component is defined by its own modulii (Young's modulus and shear modulus). The non-linear soil behaviour for the shear stress versus distortion is also incorporated in the model. This feature allows to pinpoint the arching effect in the ground and shows how the stresses concentrate on stiff materials. Based on these principles, three dimensional program has been developed in order to solve the difficult problem of soil improvement by inclusions (stiff or soft). Also the possibility to take into account a flexible mat and/or a subgrade layer has been implemented. Equations used in the model are developed and a parametric study of the necessary data used in the program is presented. In particular, the Westergaard modulus notion and the arching effect are analysed.

The most important properties in the rubber for a flexible seal are the shear modulus, shear stress, reproducibility of rubber properties from lot to lot and shear modulus variation as aging. This study was conducted to confirm a rubber characteristic for the flexible seal. As a test result, the shear modulus is the range of 0.4310 ${\sim}$ 0.4997MPa, and failure shear stress is above 2.5MPa. After 1 year, the shear modulus of rubber as aging increased about 11.8%.
In paper I, the relationships between compressive strength and splitting tensile strength or modulus of elasticity were proposed. In this paper, new prediction model is investigated from estimating splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity with curing temperature and aging without compressive strength. New prediction model is based on the model which was proposed to predict compressive strength, and splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity calculated by this model are compared with experimental values of paper I. To evaluate in-situ applicability of the model, strength and modulus of elasticity tested with variable temperatures are estimated by the prediction model. The prediction model reasonably estimates the strength and the modulus of elasticity of type I and V cement concretes tested in paper I and experimental results with variable temperature tested in this paper.
This article analyzed the modulus degradation of concrete subjected to multi-level compressive cyclic loading. The evolution of secant elastic modulus is investigated based on measurements from top loading platen and LVDT in the middle part of concrete. The difference value of the two secant elastic moduli is reduced when close to failure and could be used as a fatigue failure precursor. The fatigue hardening is observed for concrete during cyclic loading. When the maximum stress is smaller the fatigue hardening is more obvious. The slight increase of maximum stress will lead to the "periodic hardening". The tangent elastic modulus shows a specific "bowknot" shape during cyclic loading, which can characterize the hysteresis of stress-strain and is influenced by the cyclic loading stresses. The deterioration of secant elastic modulus acts a similar role with respect to the P-wave speed during cyclic loading, can both characterize the degradation of the concrete properties.
The main goal of this study was to analyze the effect of process additives, i.e. maleated polypropylene (MAPP), and nucleating agent on the viscoelastic properties of different types of extruded polypropylene-wood plastic composites manufactured from either PP homopolymer, high crystallinity PP or PP impact copolymer using dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. And also, the esterification reaction between wood flour and maleated polypropylene, and its role in determining the mechanical properties of wood flour-polypropylene composites was investigated. The wood plastic composites were manufactured using 60% pine wood flour and 40% polypropylene on a Davis-Standard $Woodtruder^{TM}$. Dynamic mechanical thermal properties, polymer damping peaks(than ${\delta}$), storage modulus (E') and loss modulus (E") were measured using a dynamic mechanical thermal analyzer. XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy), also known as ESCA (Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis) study of wood flour treated with MAPP was performed to obtain information on the chemical nature of wood fiber before and after treatment. To analyze the effect of frequency on the dynamic mechanical properties of the various composites, DMA tests were performed over a temperature range of -20 to $100^{\circ}C$, at four different frequencies (1, 5, 10 and 25 Hz), and at a heating rate of $5^{\circ}C/min$. From these results, the activation energy of the various composite was measured using an Arrhenius relationship to investigate the effect of maleated PP and nucleating agent on the measurement of the interphase between the wood and plastic of the extruded polypropylene wood plastic composites.

The elastic modulus of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) can be evaluated by using composite models with experiment. In this study, Hashin's composite model was adapted to evaluate elastic modulus considering physical properties of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) that mortar is attached. Elastic modulus testes for cement paste, mortar and recycled coarse aggregate concrete were carried out considering W/C and recycled coarse aggregate content rate. As a result, the elastic modulus of RAC was evaluated comparing with both experiment results and the existing estimation formula. Those can be used for further studies as a preliminary data.

For the description of the elastic properties of linear objects a convenient parameter is the ratio of the stress to the strain, a parameter called the Young's modulus of the material. Young's modulus can be used to predict the elongation or compression of an object as long as the stress is less than the yield strength of the material. Conventional method for estimating Young's modulus measured the ratio of stress to corresponding strain below the proportional limit of a material using a tensile testing machine. But the method needs precision specimens and expensive equipment. In this paper, we proposed method for estimating Young's modulus using accelerometer. The basic idea comes from that the wave velocity is different as the Young's modulus. To obtain Young's modulus, a group velocity is obtained. It is difficult to measure group velocity. This is because plate medium has a dispersive characteristics which has different wave speed as frequency. In this paper, we used Wigner-Ville distribution to measure group velocity. To verify the proposed method, steel and acryl plate experiments have been performed. Experimental results show that the proposed method is powerful for estimating Young's modulus.

The effects of 1 mol% N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate(BPH) as a thermal latent initiator and blend compositions composed of cycloaliphatic and DGEBA epoxies were investigated in the rheological properties and cure kinetics. Latent properties were performed by measurement of the conversion as a function of reaction time using isothermal DSC at $150^{\circ}C$ and $50^{\circ}C$ Rheological properties of the blend systems were investigated in terms of isothermal experiments using a rheometer. The gelation time was obtained from the evaluation of storage modulus (G'), loss modulus (G") and damping factor (tan$\delta$)). Cross-linking activation energy ($E_c$) was also determined from the Arrhenius equation based on gel time and curing temperature. As a result, the gel time and cross-linking activation energy increased with increasing DGEBA composition. The cure activation energies ($E_a$) were obtained by Kissinger method using dynamic DSC thermograms. In this work, the cure activation energy decreased with increasing CAE concentration, which might be resulted from the short repeat units, simple side-groups and viscosity of reaction media.edia.
