Modification of Gene Expression of Connexins in the Rat Corpus Epididymis by Estradiol Benzoate or Flutamide Exposure at the Early Neonatal Age

  • Cell-cell direct communication through channel-forming molecules, connexin (Cx), is essential for a tissue to exchange signaling molecules between neighboring cells and establish unique functional characteristics during postnatal development. The corpus epididymis is a well-known androgen-responsive tissue and involves in proper sperm maturation. In the present research, it was attempted to determine if expression of Cx isoforms in the corpus epididymis in the adult is modulated by exposure to estrogenic or anti-androgenic compound during the early postnatal period. The neonatal male rats at 7 days of age were subcutaneously injected by estradiol benzoate (EB) at low-dose ($0.015{\mu}g/kg$ body weight) or high-dose ($1.5{\mu}g/kg$ body weight) or flutamide (Flu) at low-dose ($500{\mu}g/kg$ body weight) or high-dose (50 mg/kg body weight). The corpus epididymis collected at 4 months of age was subjected to evaluate expressional changes of Cx isoforms by quantitative real-time PCR. Treatment of low-dose EB resulted in increases of Cx32, Cx37, and Cx45 transcript levels, while exposure to high-dose EB decreased expression of Cx26, Cx30.3, Cx31, Cx31.1, Cx32, Cx40, Cx43, and Cx45. Treatments of Flu caused significant decreases of expression of all examined Cx isoforms, except Cx37 and Cx43 shown no expressional change with high-dose Flu treatment. These findings imply that expression of most Cx isoforms present in the corpus epididymis would be transcriptionally regulated by actions of androgen and/or estrogen during postnatal period.

한의학(韓醫學)의 전망(展望)과 우리의 역할(役割) (A Personal Perspective and Our Role in Korean Oriental Medicine)

  • The development of Korean Oriental medicine is based upon the accumulation of experience and knowledge gathered over the centuries. The approaches taken are holistic and empirical. There is a need to understand their actions at molecular levels with more rational, objective and scientific studies. Today it appears that Chronic and age-associated diceases may be multifactorial and hence more complex. A different approach may be required. One claimed usage of Korean Oriental medicine is for the treatment and prevention of chronic and age-associated illnesses. Some of the botanical formulas used for this purpose were discovered thousands of years ago and continue to be used today. There are indications that these formulas may indeed be helpful in the treatment or prevention of chronic diseases. This multi-component medicine could not only be very useful meeting the unmet clinical needs but for defining a more synergistic therapy that supports and maintains the bodies natural curative abilities. The potential usefulness of Korean Oriental medicine embodies the belief of maintaining healthy homeostasis of the body through the proper balance of a mixture of chemical at different organs or tissues. This concept is different from western medicine and implies that multiple compounds may act on multiple mechanisms of action to maintain the balance of the complex web of biology. This is very important in view of sciences current direction to integrate fragmented information to develop future medicines. The western and eastern approaches to human health and disease are complementary to each other. The best approach in developing future medicines is to integrate both approaches.

  • 최근 부동산 경기 침체에도 불구하고, 부동산 PF(Project Financing)시장은 대규모 프로젝트를 수주하기 위한 경쟁이 매우 치열하다. 부동산 PF사업은 사업성공 시 높은 수익률을 보장하지만, 사업초기단계부터 사업을 위협하는 많은 리스크가 존재한다. 부동산 PF사업 리스크에는 금융리스크, 건설리스크, 법적리스크, 기타리스크가 있으며, 각 항목별 발생 가능한 리스크 요인을 파악 후, 각 요인에 따른 관리 방안을 강구해야 한다. 본 연구는 각 항목별 리스크 요인을 도출하기 위해서 부동산 PF 사업에 참여하는 시행사, 건설회사, 금융기관의 실무자를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였고, 각 요인에 따른 리스크 관리 방안을 제시하였다. 주요 관리 방안은 사업의 적정수익률 확보와 차입금 상환에 대한 조치이고, 사례연구를 통해 주요 관리 방안의 적합성을 검증하였다. 본 연구에서 제시된 리스크 요인과 관리방안은 부동산 PF 사업 수행 시 발생하는 리스크를 관리하는데 도움을 줄 것으로 기대된다.

일개 대학의 건강검진 결과에 대한 연구 (Study of Findings from Health Examinations among University Students)

  • This study aimed at examining participation rate in taking health examinations. abnormal findings. and recognition and responses for re-examination recommendation among junior students at a university. Data were collected by interviews and self-reports between March and April. 2000. five months after receiving findings of health examinations. Question items in the questionnaire were made by the researchers. Participation rate for the health examination was $22.5\%$ of all registered junior students: $25.4\%$ for men and $16.6\%$ for women. College of medicine ranked the first in the participation rate. Of the examinees. $22.8\%$ showed abnormal findings. Of those students with abnormal findings. 149 students who were registered at the time of data collection became the subjects of the present study. The average age of the subjects was 23.7 years. The proportion of those with very good or. good self-evaluated physical health was $24.1\%$. while the proportion for mental health was $55.1\%$. The most prevalent problem for men was liver problem and for women anemia. More than $92\%$ of the subjects were aware of their abnormal findings. Those who sought advice were $71.8\%$ and their parents were most frequently asked for advice. As for the contents. $33.7\%$ were advised to visit a hospital. Of the 65 students recommended for re-examination. $60.9\%$ with liver problems took re-examination. while $37.2\%$ with urine problems. The multiple responses of the reasons for not following the recommendation for re-examination were 'not a serious problem $(63.9\%)$,' 'having no time $(22.2\%)$,' Students' recognition of the importance of health examination should be raised to increase their participation rate. When abnormal findings were detected. parents need to be informed for achieving adequate follow-up. All the students with abnormal findings need to be consulted by university health personnel to facilitate proper actions.

  • 원자력발전소에서 경보가 발생하면 운전원이 세부원인을 파악하고 그에 맞는 조치를 취해야한다. 세부원인을 파악하기 위해서는 운전원의 경험, 경보절차서, 경보논리도면 등을 참조하는데, 경보절차서에는 관련원인이 여러개 있을 수 있으므로 이런 경우에 논리도면을 참조하게 된다. 그러나 수백 페이지이상 되는 논리도면을 보면서 경보논리의 상태 및 원인을 추적하는 것은 매우 힘들다. 이 연구에서는 논리도면을 전산화하여 온라인으로 경보발생 시 해당경보의 상세원인을 추적하여 화면에 표시하는 시스템을 제안한다.

수산보조금 금지 시대의 유류 공급 정책에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Effectiveness of the Oil Supply Policy for Korean Fisheries Industry in the Era of Subsidy Prohibition)

  • In the fisheries industry, the cost of oil Is the greatest factor, contributing 25% 40% of the cost of production. In order to support fisheries, the government has supplied large amounts of money for oil to the fisheries industry. However, the elimination and restriction against the subsidy of fisheries has been actively discussed throughout international organizations Including the WTO. The purpose of this thesis is to study the existing issue of subsidies on the fisheries Industry, which is currently disputed in international organizations, and predict a future policy about the oil supply that considers the most important factors on fisheries. In chapter 2, the paper begins by outlining the tendencies of discussion in relation to the subsidy on fisheries among international organizations, and categorizes them on the basis of their types. Chapter 3 defines the current conditions and characteristics of the Korean subsidy on fisheries and analyzes which portions of the subsidy on fisheries should be eliminated first when it is prohibited. In chapter 4, procedures and problems for producing tax-free oil are discussed, because tax-free oil has a higher possibility of being ruled out. Chapter 5 proposes a reasonable plan concerning oil supply policies for maintenance or enrichment of the fishing industries, post the elimination of subsidies. Conclusions were drawn in eight areas as a result of this study: 1) securing the large storage of oil, 2) extending customers of oil to include non-fishermen, 3) coordinating the segmentation of marketing area, 4) diversification of the sales goods, 5) producing oil sales experts, 6) developing original brands, 7) expanding the purchasing area to buy oil in the international market, and 8) operating funds to stabilize oil price. It would not be appropriate to wait until international organizations decide to ban the subsidy of fisheries. Corresponding plans ( such as securing the large storage of oil) tend to be large scale and long-term projects because they take a number of years, from designing the oil storage tank to selecting the proper region and initiating the construction. Therefore, it is strongly suggested that any extensive and time consuming projects including preparation for the tax-free oil should be completed in new actions before the ban by the international organizations.

  • 본 연구에서는 선박의 충돌이나 좌초와 같은 사고의 예방에 기여할 수 있는 가상교통관제시스템의 개념을 소개한다. 지금의 VTS는 사고의 억지효과가 있음에도 불구하고, 그 한계점을 가지고 있다. 그래서 현 시스템을 광역 VTS개념으로 확대 시행하더라도 그 효과에 많은 의문이 발생할 수 있다. 가상교통관제시스템은 인공위성에 의한 해상환경의 리모트센싱과 여기서 얻어진 데이터에 기반을 둔 환경부하 모델(INOUE model)로 구성된다. 인공위성 리모트센싱은 선박, 기상, 해양 정보를 포함하는 대부분의 해상 교통 환경 정보를 제공해 줄 수 있다. 이들 정보를 이용해서 각 선박에 대한 환경 부하를 시뮬레이션 함으로써, 미래의 (예, 5분후) 교통환경을 예측하고, 교통제어를 할 수 있는 시스템을 제시한다. 마지막으로, 인공위성 데이터를 사용해서 선박정보를 추출하는 방법을 보여준다.

  • USS(Ubiquitous Smart Space)는 공간내에서 벌어지는 다양한 상황을 인지하고, 사물이나 서비스들이 자율적으로 협업함으로써 사용자의 목표에 맞는 서비스를 제공한다. U-Safety는 USS 상에서 다중센서를 통해 좀더 정확한 상황을 인지하고 이에 대처하여 조처를 취하는 시스템이다. U-Safety 에서 사용되는 다양한 센서들이 수집한 데이터 중에 영상데이터는 사람이 객관적으로 상황을 추론하기에 가장 이상적이다. 센터는 다양한 곳에 설치된 영상입력 장치로 부터 많은 양의 영상 데이터를 수집하여 이를 바탕으로 다중의 상황인지 및 추론을 수행하게 된다. 이에 센터는 방대한 양의 데이터를 처리하기 위해 매우 많은 자원을 소비하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 제안하는 계층적 영상 처리 방법은 영상입력 장치에서 1차 상황인지를 하고 전체 영상중 상황인지의 가능성이 높은 부분만을 블럭화하여 센터로 전송하는 방법을 제안한다. 이는 센터가 영상처리를 위해 소비하는 자원을 줄여 원활한 상황인지의 효율을 높이고 U-Safety 망에 영상데이터가 차지하는 비율을 줄인다.

대학 수업에서 스마트 LMS의 상호작용 효과 (A Study on the Interactivity of Smart LMS in a University Class)

  • 본 연구는 스마트 LMS의 상호작용 효과를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 이를 위하여 전공영어 과목에서 한 학기 동안 강의실 안과 밖에서 스마트 LMS를 활용한 후 이 과목을 수강하는 35명의 학생을 대상으로 사전 설문과 사후 설문을 실시하였다. 연구결과 스마트 LMS는 교수 학생 간, 학생과 학생 간, 학생과 학습내용 간 모두에서 상호작용 효과가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 특히 수업 중에 활용한 수업활동게시판은 교수자의 즉각적인 피드백을 가능하게 하였고 위키는 강의실 밖에 조별 발표를 위해 학생들이 협업하는 것을 편리하게 하였다. 또한 수업활동 게시판에 정리된 조별활동 산출물과 스마트 LMS에 탑재된 강의자료들 역시 상호작용 효과를 높이는 역할을 하였다. 그러나 향후 상호작용성을 더 높이기 위하여 고려할 점은 학생들에게 스마트 LMS를 활용하는 수업방식에 잘 적응할 수 있게 하는 방안 마련과, 스마트 LMS 기능에 대한 사전 실험, 스마트폰의 데이터와 배터리 문제를 해결하기 위한 적절한 대응을 꼽을 수 있다.

임산부를 위한 주차구획의 규모설정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Size Planning of Parking-Block for Pregnant Women)

  • Purpose and Methods: Currently, Korea has the lowest fertility rate among OECD countries. It is also true that from the aspect of encouraging childbirth policy, as the use of automobiles has increased, the interest in securing parking spaces has also become more important. However, there are efforts and researches on the supplying parking spaces for the general public in society not to the positive discrimination such as elders or pregnant women. On the other hand, there is a growing need for a dedicated parking space for pregnant women due to the changing social environment and increasing number of female drivers. At this point, proper design of the maternity parking spaces is essential. Therefore, this study is analyzing the characteristics of pregnant women such as measurements and certain actions and case studies of domestic and oversea. Through the analysis of these factors, the following results were derived. Results: First, it was determined that the important factor in the planning of the parking-block for pregnant women was the human body size of pregnant women. And the required dimensions of movement of pregnant women were derived. Second, the dimensions of automobile were analyzed and applied from the most used vehicles in the family composition. Third, after the observations, the status of the parking spaces of the pregnant women and observations showed that the drivers not only the pregnant women but others were using the spaces improperly. Fourth, at certain conditions of the parking spaces, in order to improve the efficiency of the parking spaces, it is necessarily considered that the usage of designated accessible parking spaces can be used together by not only the disabled but also to the passengers who are classified as 'transportation weak' such as pregnant women. Implications: In this study, the researcher will propose the shape and size of the parking-block for pregnant women considering the elements derived above.
