The sound speed of seawater can be calculated by the empirical formula as a function of temperature, salinity and pressure. It is little affected by salinity because the average salinity is 34 psu and varies within a few psu seasonally and spatially in the ocean. Recently, low-salinity water of 24 psu flows into the western sea area of Jeju Island due to the flood of the Yangtze River in China during summer, affecting sound speed profile. In this paper, it was analyzed how environmental changes affected to the underwater communication - the sound speed of low-salinity water was calculated, and the communication channel was estimated by the simulated acoustic rays while the transmitting and receiving depth and the range were varied with and without the low-salinity layer. And The BER (Bit error rate) was calculated by BPSK(Binary phase shift key) modulation and the effects of the low-salinity water on the BER was investigated. The sound speed profile was changed to have positive slope by the low-salinity layer at the sub-surface up to 20 m of depth, forming acoustic wave propagation channel at the sub-surface resulting in the decrease of most of the BER Consequently, this paper suggests that it is important to consider changes of the ocean environment for correctly analyzing the underwater communication and the detection capability.

Nanoparticles-coated and impact-damaged carbon-fiber reinforced plastics(CFRP) laminates were tested under compression-after-impact(CAI) mode and the propagation of damage due to compressive loading has been monitored by acoustic emission(AE). The impact damage was induced not by mechanical loading but by a simulated lightning strike. CFRP laminates were made of carbon prepregs prepared by coating of conductive nano-particles directly on the fibers and the coupons were subjected to simulated lightning strikes with a high voltage/current impulse of 10~40 kA within a few microseconds. The effects of nano-particles coating and the degree of damage induced by the simulated lightning strikes on the AE activities were examined, and the relationship between the compressive residual strength and AE behavior has been evaluated in terms of AE event counts and the onset of AE activity with the compressive loading. The degree of impact damage was also measured in terms of damage area by using ultrasonic C-scan images. From the results assessed during the CAI tests of damaged CFRP showed that AE monitoring appeared to be very useful to differentiate the degree of damage hence the mechanical integrity of composite structures damaged by lightning strikes.
The Taiwanese liquid crystal display (LCD) industry has traditionally produced a huge amount of waste glass that is placed in landfills. Waste glass recycling can reduce the material costs of concrete and promote sustainable environmental protection activities. Concrete is always utilized as structural material; thus, the concrete compressive strength with a variety of mixtures must be studied using predictive models to achieve more precise results. To create an efficient waste LCD glass concrete (WLGC) design proportion, the related studies utilized a multivariable regression analysis to develop a compressive strength waste LCD glass concrete equation. The mix design proportion for waste LCD glass and the compressive strength relationship is complex and nonlinear. This results in a prediction weakness for the multivariable regression model during the initial growing phase of the compressive strength of waste LCD glass concrete. Thus, the R ratio for the predictive multivariable regression model is 0.96. Neural networks (NN) have a superior ability to handle nonlinear relationships between multiple variables by incorporating supervised learning. This study developed a multivariable prediction model for the determination of waste LCD glass concrete compressive strength by analyzing a series of laboratory test results and utilizing a neural network algorithm that was obtained in a related prior study. The current study also trained the prediction model for the compressive strength of waste LCD glass by calculating the effects of several types of factor combinations, such as the different number of input variables and the relevant filter for input variables. These types of factor combinations have been adjusted to enhance the predictive ability based on the training mechanism of the NN and the characteristics of waste LCD glass concrete. The selection priority of the input variable strategy is that evaluating relevance is better than adding dimensions for the NN prediction of the compressive strength of WLGC. The prediction ability of the model is examined using test results from the same data pool. The R ratio was determined to be approximately 0.996. Using the appropriate input variables from neural networks, the model validation results indicated that the model prediction attains greater accuracy than the multivariable regression model during the initial growing phase of compressive strength. Therefore, the neural-based predictive model for compressive strength promotes the application of waste LCD glass concrete.

Prediction of ground condition ahead of tunnel face might be the most important factor to prevent collapse during tunnel excavation. In this study, a non-destructive method to evaluate the phase velocity in model rock mass using wavelet transform of surface wave was proposed aiming at ground condition assessment ahead of tunnel face. Model tests using gypsum as a rocklike material composed of two layers were performed. A Piezoelectric actuator with frequencies ranging from 150 Hz to 5 kHz was selected as a harmonic source. The acceleration history was measured with two accelerometers. Wavelet transform analysis was used to obtain the dispersion curves from the measured data. The experimental results showed that the near-field effects can be neglected if the distance between two receivers is chosen to be three times the wavelength. A simple inversion method using weighted factor based on the normal distribution was proposed. The inversion results showed that the predicted phase velocity agreed reasonably well with the measured one when the wavelength influence factor was 0.2. The depth of propagation of surface wave was from 0.42 to 0.63 times the wavelength. The range of wavelength varying with phase velocity in dispersion curve matched well with that estimated by inversion technique.

Medium composition plays a key role on influencing organogenesis in plant tissue culture. This study was carried out to examine the effects of medium composition on organogenesis in diploid and tetraploid Codonopsis lanceolata and obtain in-vitro mass propagation of superior species of C. lanceolata. Diploid C. lanceolata was found to be declined regarding MS medium composition for each concentration. However, shoot and adventitious root formation were suppressed with higher mineral salt concentration, and active growth of shoot and adventitious root was exhibited as 4.9 cm and 3.2 cm respectively in 1/2 MS medium. While in tetraploid C. lanceolata, it showed 2.9 cm and 3.2 cm respectively in 1/4 MS medium. In the case of sucrose concentration, no consistent decrease was observed for growth of shoot and the adventitious root of diploid both at high and low concentration. The growth of shoot (at 3% concentration) and adventitious root (at 7% concentration) was 2.3 cm and 2.0 cm respectively. Although there was no difference in shoot formation of tetraploid C. lanceolata in all concentrations with the range of 1.7~1.8, there was a slight decrease in shoot growth at high concentration. Results revealed that the adventitious root formation was suppressed at high concentration. The concentration of agar exhibited no significant difference in shoot formation of diploid C. lanceolata at all concentrations. The maximum result of adventitious growth (4.1 cm) was observed at 0.8% concentration. Slight inhibition of shoot formation and root formation of tetraploid C. lanceolata was observed at higher concentration. Shoot formation of diploid C. lanceolata also exhibited inhibition at higher concentration. Shoot formation of diploid C. lanceolata was increased at lower pH and shoot growth was the highest (2.3 cm) at pH 3.8. Adventitious root formation was higher at lower pH. However, both the adventitious root formation and growth exhibited comparatively higher result at pH 5.8. Taken together, the levels of pH had an effect on shoot and root formation in diploid and tetraploid of C. lanceolata
A protocol for the in vitro propagation of Chamaecyparis obtusa was established in the present study. Multi-shoots were initiated from apical shoot explants from germinants after 10 weeks of culture on Litvay medium (LM) supplemented with different concentrations of cytokinin. The effects of pre-treatment with high concentrations of cytokinin and varying concentrations (0.2 to 5.0 mg/L) of zeatin on in vitro shoot elongation and shoot multiplication were investigated. Optimal shoot growth was achieved on LM medium, with over 10-mm shoots after 10 weeks of culture. In the anti-browning tests, ethanesulfonic acid triggered the least browning in the shoot tips. The highest multi-shoot induction was observed in the 0.5-mg/L zeatin treatments, which yielded 80% induction of shoots after 10 weeks of culture, and maximum shoot elongation was observed in the LM basal medium without the hormone. The highest rooting rates were 65% under 0.2 mg/L indole-3-butyric acid.
In this dissertation, We demonstrated the Travel Time forecasting model in the freeway of multi-section with regard of drives' attitude. Recently, the forecasted travel time that is furnished based on expected travel time data and advanced experiment isn't being able to reflect the time-lag phenomenon specially in case of long distance trip, so drivers don't believe any more forecasted travel time. And that's why the effects of ATIS(Advanced Traveler Information System) are reduced. Therefore, in this dissertation to forecast the travel time of the freeway of multi-section reflecting the time-lag phenomenon & the delay of tollgate, we used traffic volume data & TCS data that are collected by Korea Highway Cooperation. Also keep the data of mixed unusual to applicate real system. The applied model for forecasting is consisted of feed-forward structure which has three input units & two output units and the back-propagation is utilized as studying method. Furthermore, the optimal alternative was chosen through the twelve alternative ideas which is composed of the unit number of hidden-layer & repeating number which affect studying speed & forecasting capability. In order to compare the forecasting capability of developed ANN model. the algorithm which are currently used as an information source for freeway travel time. During the comparison with reference model, MSE, MARE, MAE & T-test were executed, as the result, the model which utilized the artificial neural network performed more superior forecasting capability among the comparison index. Moreover, the calculated through the particularity of data structure which was used in this experiment.
Nancomposites manufacture has been developed rapidly, because of reinforcing effects of CNT in terms of mechanical, electrical and thermal properties. In this study, 10 wt% CNT paste was fabricated with good dispersion state and easy processability. Damage sensing and reinforcing effect of CNT paste were investigated in nanocomposites. 10 wt% CNT paste exhibited better tensile and flexural properties than those of general 1 wt% CNT nanocomposites. To observe the healing effect of CNT paste, a crack was made artificially with 30wt% CF30wt%/PP composites, and the CNT paste was filled inside the crack. The damage sensing of CNT paste in CF30wt%/PP composites was investigated by electrical resistance measurement and mechanical tests. CNT paste exhibited good reinforcing effect in mechanical properties of CF30wt%/PP composites, and this reinforcing effect was getting better with larger cracks. The reason was because CNT paste had good interfacial adhesion with CF30wt%/PP composites to resist crack propagation. In electrical resistance measurement, there was a jump in electrical resistance signal at the adhesion interface. The jumping signal could be used to predict fracture of CF/PP composites. CNT nanocomposites for damage sensing had crack reducing effect and damage detection using electrical resistance method.
The shear behavior of simply supported reinforced concrete deep beams subject to concentrated loads has been scrutinized experimentally to verify the influence of the structural parameters such as concrete strength, shear span-depth ratio, and web reinforcements. A total of 42 reinforced concrete deep beams with compressive strengths of 250 kg/$cm^2$ and 500 kg/$cm^2$ has been tested at the laboratory under one or two-point top loading. The shear span-depth ratio have been taken as three types of 0.4, 0.8 and 1.2, and the horizontal and vertical shear reinforcements ratio, ranging from 0.0 to 0.57 percent respectively. In the tests, the effects of the shear span-depth ratio, concrete strength and web reinforcements on the shear strength and crack initiation and propagation have been carefully checked and analyzed. From the tests, it has been observed that the failures of all specimens were due to shear and the shear behaviors of specimens were greatly affected by inclined cracks from the load application points to the supports in shear span. The load bearing capacities have changed significantly depending on the shear span ratio, and the efficiency of horizontal shear reinforcements were increased as the shear span-depth ratio decreased. The test results have been analyzed and compared with the formulas proposed by previous researchers and the design equation from the code. While the shear strengths obtained from the tests showed around 1.4 and 1.9 times higher than the values calculated by CIRIA guide and the domestic code, they were closely coincident with the formulas given by de Paiva's equation.
In this study, scenarios based on the leakage of highly compressed air and fire occurrence turned out to be high risks in an operation stage of CAES facility were constructed and estimated. By combining Bernoulli equation with momentum equation, an expression to calculate an impact force of a jet flow of compressed air was derived. An impact force was found to be proportional to the square of diameter of fracture and the pressure of compressed air. Four types of fire scenarios were composed to evaluate an effects that seasonal change and location of fire source have on the spread behavior of smoke. Smoke from the fire ignited in the vicinity of CAES opening descended more quickly below the limit line of breathing than one from the fire occurred 10 m away from CAES opening, which is expected to occur due to a propagation of wave front of smoke. It was shown that a rate of smoke spread of the winter fire is faster than one of the summer fire and smoke from the winter fire spreads farther than one of the summer fire, which are dependent on the direction of air flow into access opening. Evacuation simulation indicated that the required safe evacuation time(RSET) of the summer and winter fires are 262, 670 s each.
