In this paper, we proposed a method to determine optimal wave source for mobile telephone communication. The approach is based on wave propagation simulation. Given a wave source we can determine wave propagation effects on every surfaces of wave simulation environment. The effect is evaluated as a cost function while the source’s position x, y, z work as variables for a parameter optimization. Wave propagated 3 dimensional space generates reflected waves whenever it hits boundary surface, it receives multiple waves which are reflected from various boundary surfacers in space. Three algorithms being implemented in this paper are based on a raytracing theory. If we get 3 dimensional geometry input as well as wave sources, we can compute wave propagation effects all over the boundary surfaces. In this paper, we present a new approach to compute wave propagation. First approach is tracing wave from a source. Source is modeled as a sphere casting vectors into various directions. This approach has limit in computing necessary wave propagation effects on all terrain surfaces. The second approach proposed is tracing wave backwards : tracing from a wave receiver to a wave source. For this approach we need to allocate a wave receiver on every terrain surfaces modeled, which requires enormous amount of computing time. But the second approach is useful for indoor wave propagation simulation. The last approach proposed in this paper is tracing sound by geometric computation. We allow direct, 1-relfe tion, and 2-reflection propagation. This approach allow us to save in computation time while achieving reasonable results. but due to the reflection limitaion, this approach works best in outdoor environment.

To evaluate the effects of mode II on the crack initiation and propagation stages, the effects in the fatigue threshold region under a mixed-mode I+II loading state was experimentally investigated. In the case of mixed-mode I + II, during the crack initiation stage, as the loading application angle (${\theta}$) increased, cracks occurred in the lower load owing to the effects of mode II, while the crack propagation rate decreased. The effects of mode II were experimentally investigated in the crack propagation stage by means of multilevel loading direction variation. Following mixed-mode I+II ($0^{\circ}{\rightarrow}{\theta}{\rightarrow}60^{\circ}$), as the load application angle increased, the fatigue crack propagation rate decreased, as did the fatigue crack propagation rate, which occurred later. Following mixed-mode I + II in case of(${\theta}{\geq}75^{\circ}$), the fatigue crack propagation rate was found to increase, while the fatigue life decreased.
In the present work, an attempt is made to explore the effects of shear in-plane preload on the wave propagation response of small-scale plates containing nanofibers. The small-scale system is assumed to be embedded in an elastic matrix. The nonlocal elasticity is utilized in order to develop a size-dependent model of plates. The proposed plate model is able to describe both nanofiber effects and the influences of being at small-scales on the wave propagation response. The size-dependent differential equations are derived for motions along all directions. The size-dependent coupled equations are solved analytically to obtain the phase and group velocities of the small-scale plate under a shear in-plane preload. The effects of this shear preload in conjunction with nanofiber and size effects as well as the influences of the elastic matrix on the wave propagation response are analyzed in detail.

A constant volume combustion chamber is employed to investigate the initial flame kernel development and flame propagation of gasoline-air mixtures with various ignition systems, ignition energy and spark plug electrodes. To do this research, four ignition systems are designed and manufactured, and the ignition energy is controlled by varying the dwell time. Several kinds of spark plugs are also made to analyze the effects of electrodes on flame kernel development. The velocity of flame propagation is measured by the laser deflection method. The output laser beam from He-Ne laser is divided into three parallel beams by a beam splitter. The splitted beams pass through the combustion chamber. They are deflected when contacted with flame front, and the voltage signals from photodiodes change due to deflection. The results show that higher ignition energy raises the flame propagation speed especially under the fuel lean operation. The wider electrode gap, smaller electrode diameter and sharper electrode tip make the speed of the initial flame propagation faster. The speed of the initial flame propagation is affected by electrode material as well. Electrode material with lower melting temperature help the initial flame propagation.

Combustion and flame propagation characteristics of the liquid phase LPG injection (LPLI) engine were investigated in a single cylinder optical engine. Lean bum operation is needed to reduce thermal stress of exhaust manifold and engine knock in a heavy duty LPG engine. An LPLI system has advantages on lean operation. Optimized engine design parameters such as swirl, injection timing and piston geometry can improve lean bum performance with LPLI system. In this study, the effects of piston geometry along with injection timing and swirl ratio on flame propagation characteristics were investigated. A series of bottom-view flame images were taken from direct visualization using an W intensified high-speed CCD camera. Concepts of flame area speed, In addition to flame propagation patterns and thermodynamic heat release analysis, was introduced to analyze the flame propagation characteristics. The results show the correlation between the flame propagation characteristics, which is related to engine performance of lean region, and engine design parameters such as swirl ratio, piston geometry and injection timing. Stronger swirl resulted in foster flame propagation under open valve injection. The flame speed was significantly affected by injection timing under open valve injection conditions; supposedly due to the charge stratification. Piston geometry affected flame propagation through squish effects.
Water-induced strength reduction is one of the most critical causes for rock deformation and failure. Understanding the effects of water on the strength, toughness and deformability of rocks are of a great importance in rock fracture mechanics and design of structures in rock. However, only a few studies have been conducted to understand the effects of water on fracture properties such as fracture toughness, crack propagation velocity, consumed energy, and microstructural damage. Thus, in this study, we focused on the understanding of how microscale damages induced by water saturation affect mesoscale mechanical and fracture properties compared with oven dried specimens along three notch orientations-divider, arrester, and short transverse. The mechanical properties of calcite-cemented sandstone were examined using standard uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) and Brazilian tensile strength (BTS) tests. In addition, fracture properties such as fracture toughness, consumed energy and crack propagation velocity were examined with cracked chevron notched Brazilian disk (CCNBD) tests. Digital Image Correlation (DIC), a non-contact optical measurement technique, was used for both strain and crack propagation velocity measurements along the bedding plane orientations. Finally, environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) was employed to investigate the microstructural damages produced in calcite-cemented sandstone specimens before and after CCNBD tests. As results, both mechanical and fracture properties reduced significantly when specimens were saturated. The effects of water on fracture properties (fracture toughness and consumed energy) were predominant in divider specimens when compared with arrester and short transverse specimens. Whereas crack propagation velocity was faster in short transverse and slower in arrester, and intermediate in divider specimens. Based on ESEM data, water in the calcite-cemented sandstone induced microstructural damages (microcracks and voids) and increased the strength disparity between cement/matrix and rock forming mineral grains, which in turn reduced the crack propagation resistance of the rock, leading to lower both consumed energy and fracture toughness ($K_{IC}$).

In this study, the effects of water vapor in inlet air, spark advance and fuel type in the spark ignition engine were investigated through the experiments of combustion and flame arriving pattern analysis using ionization probe. The results of flame propagation experiment using ionization probe show that the flame which ignited from spark plug located at the center of the combustion chamber propagated faster in exhaust side than in intake side due to the mixture flow motion inducted into combustion chamber from intake tumble port at all conditions. And as the partial vapor pressure increased, the flame propagation became slower in all direction. Especially effects were greater for intake side than the exhaust side.
Not only difference of fatigue crack growth and propagation behavior resulted from the grain size, the hardness ratio and volume fraction in M.E.F. dual phase steel composed of martensite in hard phase and ferrite in soft phase, but also the effects of the plastic constraint were investigated by fracture mechanics and microstructural method. The main results obtained are as follows: 1) The fatigue endurance of M.E.F. steel increases with decreasing the grain size, increasing the ratio of hardness and volume fraction. 2) The initiation of slip and crack occures faster as the stress level goes higher. These phenomena result from the plastic constraint effect of the second phase. 3) The crack propagation rate in the constant stress level is faster as the grain size gets larger, the ratio of hardness lower and volume fraction smaller.

The experimental method of measuring dynamic properties of structures was presented. The method is based on the flexural wave propagation characteristics. Using the method, change in structural dynamic properties due to damage is measured. The crack has much more significant impact on the strain energy than the inertial effects. From this, the sensitivity of the dynamic stiffness on the crack location is estimated by calculating the strain energy. When the wave propagates, the strain and kinetic energies shows cyclic changed over space. The crack that occurred at locations where the wave energy is in the form of the potential energy affected most significantly the wave propagation characteristics. The effects of crack location on the wave propagation were used to determine the crack location.
Changes in starch content and activities of ADPG- and UDPG-starch synthase and $\alpha$- and, $\beta$-amylase were studied in order to investigate effects of gibberellic aicd and abscisic acid on endogenous starch content during shoot differentiation and protocorm propagation in Cymbidium spp. (Jungfrau) protocorm. Shoot differentiation was promoted during the degradation of endogenous starch and protocorn propagation was promoted during starch accumulation in protocorm. The activities of ADPG- and, UDPG-starch synthase and $\alpha$- and $\beta$-amylase seemed to be related with starch content. Shoot differentiation and protocorm propagation were slightly inhibited in protocorm explants treated with 100$\mu$M gibberellic acid. The explants treated with 10$\mu$M abscisic acid lost the capacity for shoot differentiation and protocorm propagation, and that could not be overcome by 100$\mu$M gibberellic acid added to culture medium. Starch content fluctuated as the control even after 10$\mu$M abscisic acid. None the less, the treatment completely inhibited shoot differentiation and protocorm propagation.
