This paper presents results of continuous wave and swept frequency response measurements over the frequency range of UNII lower and middle bands from 5.15GHz to 5.35GHz in indoor environments. From the continuous wave measurements at 5.2GHz, the excess path loss, and the statistical characteristics of the temporal and spatial fading were found. By sweeping the frequency over the band, envelope correlation as a function of frequency was found and the coherence bandwidth (CBW) was determined from the envelope correlation. Using a channel model, the CBW was used to evaluate RMS delay spread. The dependence of CBW on the antenna polarization was simulated and compared with the measurement results. The influence of room size and separation of transmitter and receiver for LOS paths on RMS delay spread was discussed.

Underwater Wireless Acoustic Sensor Networks have become an important area of research over the recent decades. Designing an underwater network, especially a media access control (MAC) protocol, faces many challenges due to the peculiarities of underwater environment. One of the most important problems is resulted from long and variable propagation delay of the acoustic wave. In this paper, we propose a new method, namely Dynamic Timeout over Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (DT/MACA), which is designed to handle long and high variable propagation delay in underwater acoustic sensor networks. In this proposed method, the difference timeout intervals are evaluated and applied to each network transmission. Simulation results show that our work not only improves the network throughput, but also decreases the unnecessary retransmission and end-to-end delay.

The requirements of the NGA are to provide broader bandwidth, higher splitting ratio, and longer reach than those of the current FTTH. In the TDMA PON accounting for large percentage in the total FTTH, the increase in distance between the OLT and the ONU leads to the increase in propagation delay and in packet delay three times more than the propagation delay. It is because a packet arrived in the ONU is handled through bandwidth request, grant, and transmission. To reduce the increased packet delay, the OLT have to reduce the cycle time. However, it will cause increased overhead and reduced link efficiency. In this paper, we investigate several problems in TDMA PON when the subscriber access network extended to 60 or 100 Km reach as a NGA goal and provide a method that determines an optimal cycle time to satisfy QoS for delay sensitive traffics. In particular, we suggest a variable equalized round trip delay method and a variable cycle time method. It is shown that the former reduces the packet delay and the latter increase the link efficiency.

We establish a statistical model for the ultra-wide bandwidth (UMB) indoor channel based on over 2000 frequency response measurements campaign in a Practical apartment. The approach is based on the investigation of the statistical properties of the multipath profiles measured in different place with different rooms. Based on the experimental results, a characterization of the propagation channel from theoretic view point is described. Also we describe a method for measurement of the channel impulse response and channel transfer function. Using the measured data, the authors compares channel impulse responses obtained from time-domain and channel transfer functions obtained from frequency-domain with statistical path loss model. The bandwidth of the signal used in this experiment is from 10MHz to 8.01 GHz. The time-domain results such as maximum excess delay, men excess delay and ms delay spread are presented. As well as, omni-directional biconical antenna were used for transmitter and receiver In addition, measurements presented here support m channel model including the antenna characteristics.

In this paper a VLSI design for the automatic magnetizing and inspection system has been presented. This is a design of a peripheral controller, which magnetizes CRTs and computer monitors and controls the automatic inspection system. We implemented a programmable peripheral interface(PPI) circuit of the control and protocol module for the magnetizer controller by using a 0.8um CMOS SOG technology of ETRI. Most of the PPI functions have been confirmed. In the conventional method, the propagation/ramp delay model was used to predict the delay of cells, but used to model on only a single cell. Later, a modified "linear delay predict model" was suggested in the LODECAP(LOgic DEsign CAPture) by adding some factors to the prior model. But this has not a full model on the delay chain. In this paper a new " delay predict equation" for the design of the timing control block in PPI system has been suggested. We have described the detail method on a design of delay chain block according to the extracted equation and applied this method to the timing control block design. And we had descriptions on the other blocks of this system.
In this paper, we implemented a ray-tracing simulator with a ray-launching technique and generated the propagation path of each ray in an multiple-wall indoor environment. In this simulator, we adopted two dimension ray-tracing techniques considering the reflection and penetration were dominant propagation factor in the indoor channel. From the result, we verified that this ray-tracing simulator shows the similar pattern and delay distribution with the experiment results of the previous research.
The effects of the ionosphere on the radio wave propagation are scattering of radio waves, attenuation, angle error, ranging error, and time delay. If ionospheric conditions are suitable, the charged particles can remove energy from radio waves and thus attenuate the signal. Also, a radio wave traveling a path along which the electron density is not constant undergoes changes in direction, positon and time of propagation. The present study is based on Korean ionospheric data obtained at the AnYang Radio Research Institute from Jan. 1985 through Oct. 1989. The data are used to simulate the Korean ionosphere following the Chapman law. The effects of the model ionosphere on the radio wave propagation, such as the angle, position error, time delay, and the attenuation, are studied for the various cases of the wave frequency and the altitude.
The bedding plane has a significant influence on the effect of blasting fragmentation and the overall performance of underground mining. This paper explores the effects of fragmentation of the bedding plane and different angles by using the numerical analysis. ANSYS/LS-DYNA code was used for the implementation of the models. The models include a dynamic compressive and tensile failure which is applied to simulate the fractures generated by the explosion. Firstly, the cracks propagation with the non-bedding plane in the coal with two boreholes detonated simultaneously is calculated and the particle velocity and maximum principal stress at different points from the borehole are also discussed. Secondly, different delay times between the two boreholes are calculated to explore its effects on the propagation of the fractures. The results indicate that the coal around the right borehole is broken more fully and the range of the cracks propagation expanded with the delay time increases. The peak particle velocity decreases first and then increases with the distance from the right borehole increasing. Thirdly, different angles between the bedding plane and the centerline of the two boreholes and the transmission coefficient of stress wave at a bedding plane are considered. The results indicated that with the angles increase, the number of the fractures decreases while the transmission coefficient increases.

The positions of rotating sound sources have been localized by experiments with the Doppler effects removed. In order to do-Dopplerize the sound signals emitted from moving sources, two kinds of signal reconstruction methods were applied. One is the forward propagation method and the other is the backward propagation method. Forward propagation method analyze the source emission time based on the instantaneous distance between sensors and the assumed source position, then the signals are reconstructed with respect to the emission time. On the other hand, the backward method uses time delay to do-Dopplerize the acquired data for the received time of reference. In both techniques, the reconstructed signal data were processed using beamforming algorithm to produce power distributions at the frequency of interest. Experiments have been carried out for varying frequencies, rotating speeds and the object distances. Forward propagation method has shown better performance in locating source position than the backward propagation method.

In this paper, we propose a synchronization protocol for underwater acoustic networks which aims to minimize the effects of long propagation delay and uncertain delay variations and employs packet train scheme with considering low data rate. The proposed protocol uses an one-way delay measurement method by transmitting consecutive packets and acquires synchronization only considering propagation delay variations by calculating packet arrival time differences. We perform simulations under various network conditions, such as node mobility, time interval for packet transmission, network range, and elapsed time after synchronizing. The simulation results shows the superiority of our protocol, compared with a previously proposed protocol.
