It is extremely important to obtain rock strength parameters for geological engineering. In this paper, the evolution of sandstone cohesion and internal friction angle with plastic shear strain was obtained by simulating the cyclic loading and unloading tests under different confining pressures using Particle Flow Code software. By which and combined with the micro-crack propagation process, the mesoscopic mechanism of parameter evolution was studied. The results show that with the increase of plastic shear strain, the sandstone cohesion decreases first and then tends to be stable, while the internal friction angle increases first, then decreases, and finally maintains unchanged. The evolution of sandstone shear strength parameters is closely related to the whole process of crack formation, propagation and coalescence. When the internal micro-cracks are less and distributed randomly and dispersedly, and the rock shear strength parameters (cohesion, internal friction angle) are considered to have not been fully mobilized. As the directional development of the internal micro-fractures as well as the gradual formation of macroscopic shear plane, the rock cohesion reduces continuously and the internal friction angle is in the rise stage. As the formation of the macroscopic shear plane, both the rock cohesion and internal friction angle continuously decrease to a certain residual level.

In order to derive reliable propagation models for future millimeter-wave frequency indoor pico-cellular communications systems, accurate reflectivity data of building materials is necessary. The broad variety of building materials and construction codes makes accurate attenuation prediction very difficult without the support of specific construction data or measurements. This paper derives a transmission and reflection coefficient based on 13 GHz to 28 GHz measurement data. Transmission and reflection is measured by applying change in the reception angle of each building material, such as plasterboard. The transmission and reflection coefficient derived shows a correlation between frequency dependence and angle. As a result, as the reception angle is reduced, the reflected angle from the transmitter that could be received increases, showing that there is a correlation. In addition, the fundamental investigations carried out lay the foundation for radio channel-related research, which is essential for the development of future millimeter-wave communications systems.

Using the principle of damage mechanics, zero-thickness pore pressure cohesive elements (PPCE) are used to simulate the casing-cement interface (CCI) and cement-rock interface (CRI). The traction-separation law describes the emergence and propagation of the PPCE. Mohr-coulomb criteria determines the elastic and plastic condition of cement sheath and rock. The finite element model (FEM) of delamination fractures emergence and propagation along the casing-cement-rock (CCR) interfaces during hydraulic fracturing is established, and the emergence and propagation of fractures along the wellbore axial and circumferential direction are simulated. Regadless of the perforation angle (the angle between the perforation and the max. horizontal principle stress), mirco-annulus will be produced alonge the wellbore circumferential direction when the cementation strength of the CCI and the CRI is less than the rock tensile strength; the delamination fractures are hard to propagate along the horizontal wellbore axial direction; emergence and propagation of delamination fractures are most likely produced on the shallow formation when the in-situ stresses are lower; the failure mode of cement sheath in the deep well is mainly interfaces seperation and body damange caused by cement expansion and contraction, or pressure testing and well shut-in operations.
The effects of the ionosphere on the radio wave propagation are scattering of radio waves, attenuation, angle error, ranging error, and time delay. If ionospheric conditions are suitable, the charged particles can remove energy from radio waves and thus attenuate the signal. Also, a radio wave traveling a path along which the electron density is not constant undergoes changes in direction, positon and time of propagation. The present study is based on Korean ionospheric data obtained at the AnYang Radio Research Institute from Jan. 1985 through Oct. 1989. The data are used to simulate the Korean ionosphere following the Chapman law. The effects of the model ionosphere on the radio wave propagation, such as the angle, position error, time delay, and the attenuation, are studied for the various cases of the wave frequency and the altitude.

Inception and propagation of electrical tree and properties of Partial discharge(PD) pulses accompanying with tree as a function of needle tip radius in low density polyethylene were discussed. To study on these characteristics in different tip radius, we used specimens with needle-plane electrode system made of LDPE, observed inception and propagation of electrical tree by optical microscope with computer and investigated the characteristics of the phase resolved PD pulses accompanying with propagation of electrical tree. The PD quantities detected and analysed were PD magnitude, mean phase angle, average discharge, and the statistical characteristics of the PD pulses. As the tip radius ${\gamma}$ increases, tree inception stress E$\sub$i/ converges to constance value. This result suggests that tree inception stress E$\sub$i/ increases due to stress relaxation when the tip radius is small. Branch-type electrical tree was formed When E$\sub$i/ is 640-750[kV/mm]. bush-type electrical tree when E$\sub$i/ is 370∼400[kV/mm], branch-like electrical tree when E$\sub$i/ is 370-400[kV/mm].

In this study, analysis of wave propagation characteristics for functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) nanoplates is performed using first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and nonlocal strain gradient theory. Uniform distribution (UD) and three types of functionally graded distributions of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are assumed. The effective mechanical properties of the FG-CNTRC nanoplate are assumed to vary continuously in the thickness direction and are approximated based on the rule of mixture. Also, the governing equations of motion are derived via the extended Hamilton's principle. In numerical examples, the effects of nonlocal parameter, wavenumber, angle of wave propagation, volume fractions, and carbon nanotube distributions on the wave propagation characteristics of the FG-CNTRC nanoplate are studied. As represented in the results, it is clear that the internal length-scale parameter has a remarkable effect on the wave propagation characteristics resulting in significant changes in phase velocity and natural frequency. Furthermore, it is observed that the strain gradient theory yields a higher phase velocity and frequency compared to those obtained by the nonlocal strain gradient theory and classic theory.
To study the evolution mechanism of cracks in rocks with multiple defects, rock-like samples with multiple defects, such as strip-shaped through-going cracks and cavity groups, are used, and the crack propagation law and changes in AE (acoustic emission) and strain of cavity groups under different inclination angles are studied. According to the test results, an increase in the cavity group inclination angle can facilitate the initial damage degree of the rock and weaken the crack initiation stress; the initial crack initiation direction is approximately 90°, and the extension angle is approximately 75~90° from the strip-shaped through-going cracks; thus, the relationship between crack development and cavity group initiation strengthens. The specific performance is as follows: when the initiation angle is 30°, the cracks between the cavities in the cavity group develop relatively independently along the parallel direction of the external load; when the angle is 75°, the cracks between the cavities in the cavity group can interpenetrate, and slip can occur along the inclination of the cavity group under the action of the shear mechanism rupture. With the increase in the inclination angle of the cavity group, the AE energy fluctuation frequency at the peak stress increases, and the stress drop is obvious. The larger the cavity group inclination angle is, the more obvious the energy accumulation and the more severe the rock damage; when the cavity group angle is 30° or 75°, the peak strain of the local area below the strip-shaped through-going fracture plane is approximately three times that when the cavity group angle is 45° and 60°, indicating that cracks are easily generated in the local area monitored by the strain gauge at this angle, and the further development of the cracks weakens the strength of the rock, thereby increasing the probability of major engineering quality damage. The research results will have important reference value for hazard prevention in underground engineering projects through rock with natural and artificial defects, including tunnels and air-raid shelters.

In this paper, we investigated the characteristics of initiation and propagation behavior for fatigue crack observed by changing various shapes of initial crack and magnitudes of loading in modified compact tension shear(CTS) specimen subjected to shear loading. In the low-loading condition, the secondary fatigue crack was created in the notch root due to friction on the pre-crack face grew to a main crack. In the high-loading condition, fatigue crack under shear loading propagated branching from the pre-crack tip. Influenced by the shear loading condition, fatigue crack propagation retardation appeared in the initial propagation region due to the reduction of crack driving force and friction on crack face. In both cases, however, fatigue cracks grew in tensile mode type. The propagation path of fatigue crack under the Mode II loading was 70 degree angle from the initial crack regardless of its shape and load magnitude.

The loading condition of actual construction works is complex. The shear effect of mixed-mode load component are crack propagation mechanism in step larger than the crack initial mechanism. Therefore, in this study received a mixed-mode loading on fatigue crack stress ratio on crack propagation path and speed of progress to learn whether stress affects crack propagation. ${\Delta}$ P a constant state of fatigue tests in Mode I, II give the same stress ratio, frequency 10Hz, sinusoidal waveform was used. A lower stress ratio fatigue crack propagation angle is small. This is less affected by the Mode II. Therefore, a mixed-mode fatigue crack propagation is to progress by the Mode. Stress ratio in a mixed mode crack in the path of progress and found a lot of impact.

Applications of bonded dissimilar materials such as metal/ceramics and resin/metal joints, are very increasing in various industry fields. It is required to find crack propagation direction and path applying to the fracture mechanics on the bonded joint of dissimilar meterials. In this paper, crack propagation direction and path were simulated numerically by using boundary element method. Crack propagation angle is able to easily determine based on the maximum stress concept. Fracture tests of Al/Epoxy dissimilar materials with an interface crack are carried out under various mixed mode conditions by using the specimens of bonded scarf joints. It is found that the experimental results are well coincide with the analysis results of boundary element method.
