  • Geography in America over the last 30 years has witnessed much positive growth: there are several reasons for this. firstly, Geographers are actively promoting their discipline to public school students, undergraduates and the general public. Secondly, Geographers in America have strengthened the discipline through a gradual, but quite noticeable shift in emphasis. Geographers have progressively emphasized three areas of contemporary public importance: (omitted)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the degree of depression cognition and health promoting behaviors of smoking and non-smoking college students. Methods: The research design was a descriptive survey study, and 379 college students were selected by convenience sampling. Measurements were Fagerstrom test for Nicotine Dependence, Depressive cognition and Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile-II. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and logistic regression were used to analyze the data. Results: 1) Smoking students showed lower scores in depressive cognitions than non-smoking students, which means that the smoker's depression was higher than the non-smokers. 2) Depressive cognition and health promoting behaviors were negatively correlated for the smokers (r=-.30, p<.01), while they were positively correlated for the non-smokers (r=.45, p<.001). 3) The variables predicting the smoker's health promoting behavior were physical activity (OR .24), health responsibility (OR .25), spiritual growth (OR 5.10), stress management (OR 4.41), extrovert personality (OR .25), and depressive cognition (OR 1.81). Conclusions: Depression and health promoting behavior should be considered in the smoking cessation programs for college students.

  • This study was a descriptive study to identify the effect of health promoting behavior on fatigue and depression and to investigate these levels among nurses. Data were collected from September 19th 2012 to September 25th 2012 by questionnaires from 243 hospital nurses of 3 hospitals in Kyungsang-Bukdo. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, ANCOVA, and Stepwise multiple regression. The result showed that in health promoting behavior, shift nurses had higher scores than it of non-shift nurses. The health promotion behavior predictors of fatigue were spiritual growth and stress management and the predictors of depression were physical activity and interpersonal relationship. This results suggest that development of professional health promoting program which is strengthened these parts of spiritual growth, stress management, physical activity and interpersonal relationship, is needed.

  • Bacillus lichemiformis Kll, a plant growth promoting rhizobacterium was reported as a producer of auxin, siderophore, as well as antifungal cellulase under some culture conditions. In vitro test, B. licheniformis Kll represented excellent antagonistic ability against Fusarium oxyspoum (KACC 40037), and showed broad spectrum against other phytopathogenic fungi. B. licheniformis Kll had cellulolytic activity toward not only carboxymethyl-cellulose (CMC) but also insoluble cellulose, such as fungal cell wall cellulose, filter paper (Whatman No. 1), and Avicel. In addition, we confirmed antifungal substance production by butanol-extract methods. The strain produced optimally the antifungal substance when it was cultivated at pH 9.0, 30${\circ}$C for 4 days on nutrient medium. The biological control mechanisms of B. lichemiformis Kll were caused by antifungal substance, cellulase and siderophore against phytopathogenic fungi.

  • This study aimed to compare the drinking behavior and health promoting lifestyle between Korean (n=304) and Japanese (n=244) female nursing students. The average score of health promoting lifestyle was statistically significant different after controlling covariables between the two countries. Spiritual growth of Korean was higher, while nutritional habits, interpersonal relationship and stress management of Japanese were higher. The frequency and amount of drinking, and the number of heavy drinkers of Korean were more than that of Japanese. The probability to be heavy drinkers in Korea was higher in interpersonal relationship and lower in spiritual growth, however the probability to be heavy drinkers in Japan was higher in health responsibility. Health educators need to provide nursing college students health education to improve healthy lifestyle including drinking behaviors.
