In this paper, numerical study has been done for the improvement of the superdetonative ram accelerator performance and for the design optimization of the system. The objective function to optimize the premixture composition is the ram tube length required to accelerate projectile from initial velocity $V_o$ to target velocity $V_e$. The premixture is composed of $H_2,\;O_2,\;N_2$ and the mole numbers of these species are selected at design variables. RSM(Response Surface Methodology) which is widely used for the complex optimization problems is selected as the optimization technique. In particular, to improve the non-linearity of the response and to consider the accuracy and efficiency of the solution, design space stretching technique has been applied. Separate sub-optimization routine is introduced to determine the stretching position and clustering parameters which construct the optimum regression model. Two step optimization technique has been applied to obtain the optimal system. With the application of stretching technique, we can perform system optimization with a small number of experimental points, and construct precise regression model for highly non-linear domain. The error to compared with analysis result is only $0.01\%$ and it is demonstrated that present method can be applied more practical design optimization problems with many design variables.

The deformation of polymers under high loading-rate conditions will be a governing factor to be considered in their impact-resistant applications such as protective shields and transparent armor. In this paper, the deformation and fracture behaviors of polymeric materials such as PE, PC and PEEK have been investigated by Taylor Impact tests. Taylor cylinder impact tests and high speed photography are introduced to examine the deformation behavior under dynamic loading condition. 20 mm air gun was used to perform the impact experiments. Cylindrical projectiles have been impacted onto a hardened steel anvil at a velocity ranging from 100 to $350\;ms^{-1}.$ Along the barrel line, a photo-sensor which measures the speed of the projectile, four digital cameras which has shutter speed of 1/917,000sec and a rigid anvil were set up. After impact experiments, the shapes of projectiles and images taken using high speed cameras were analysed. Depending on materials adopted, they showed a variety in deformation and fracture behaviors.

A steady prediction method of dynamic stability derivatives is presented in the unified framework of the unsteady Euler equations. New approach does not require any modification of the governing equations except addition of non-inertial force terms. The present methods are applied to compute the pitch-damping coefficients using the lunar coning and the lunar helical motions in the Cartesian coordinate frame. The results for the ANSR and the Basic Finner are in good agreement with the PNS data, range data, and the results using the unsteady prediction method. The results show that the steady approach using the unified governing equations in the Cartesian coordinate frame can be successfully applied to predict the pitch-damping coefficients.

This paper proposes a new approach to provide RF communication channel and electric power transmission to overcome the weakness of conventional tests, which may cause several problems. When an RF communication device is used to communicate between launch vehicle and launch complex in stead of using harness umbilical, it may draw the simplicity of ground test equipments, cost-saving, and the reduction of test time. In addition, if an RF power transmission device is adopted to supply on-board power of launch vehicle, it can replace expensive on-board batteries, which may be degraded easily by the repeated charging and discharging processes.
Propellent should be pressurized inside the turbopump to gain high thrust in a projectile. Turbopump is composed of an inducer, which prevents impeller performance deterioration, and an impeller. Several types of cavitation occur inside the inducer, numerous experiments and CFD simulations are conducted. Though, an inducer takes only small portion of total head of the pump and the following impeller determines whole turbopump performance. In addition, low inlet pressure makes the flow to be cavitated not only at the inducer, but also at the impeller in real cases. Therefore, flow through an inducer and an impeller should considered simultaneously. In this study, LOX pump composed of an inducer and an impeller is analyzed by using commercial CFD code ANSYS CFX 13.0. Non-cavitating flow with high inlet pressure and cavitating flow with low inlet pressure are both simulated and head, suction performances are shown. Evolution of the flow and the cavitation by reducing cavitation number and effect of cavitation on pump performance are studied.
The projectile afterbodies for zero-lift drag reduction has been analyzed using the Navier-Stokes equations with the κ-εturbidence model. The numerical method of a second order upwind scheme has been used on an unstructured adaptive grid system. Base drag reduction methods that have been found effective on axisymmetric bodies are boattailing, base bleed, base combustion, locked vortex afterbodies and multistep afterbodies. In this paper, turbulence flow and pressure charateristics have been studied for geometries of multistep afterbodies. The important geometrical and flow parameters relevant to the design of such afterbodies have been identified by step number, length and height. The flow over multistep aftoerbodies or base have many kinds of compressible flow characteristics including expansion waves at the trailing edge, recompression waves, separation and recirculating flow in the base region, shear flow and wake flow. The numerical results have been compared and analyzed with the experimental data. The flow characteristics have been clearly shown.

In this study, we re-examined the Tate's modified Bernoulli equation to study penetration phenomena for long rod projectile into single or multi-layered finite thickness plates. We used the force equlibrium equation at mushroomed nose/target interface instead of conventional pressure equation at the stagnation point. In our penetration model, we considered the velocity dependent $R_t$ value for semi-infinite target and considered only the back face effect for finite target. To compensate for $R_t$ value according to target's thickness and back face effect, we used the spherical cavity expansion theory for semi-infinite plate and used the cylindrical cavity expansion theory for finite plate. Also we developed the experimental technique using make screen to measure the penetration duration time at each layered plate. In 3-layered laminated RHA/mild steel/ A1 7039 plate, we observed that spall had occured around the back face of A1 7039 plate by the stress wave interaction. Through the comparison between theoretical and experimental data including Lambert's results, we conform that our study has good confidences.

Fluence and LET spectrum for 290,400 MeV/u $\^$12/C and 400 MeV/u $\^$20/Ne beams have been measured by a $\Delta$E-E counter telescope. Total charge-changing cross sections are deduced from measured fluence. The measured cross sections agree with previous measurements, however, they are disagreement with a model calculation. To dose-averaged LETs, the model calculation can reproduce the measured LETs except for peak LETs at Bragg peak region.

In order to simulate the ignition-gas injection in the interior ballistics, a two-dimensional analytic code for two-phase flows has been developed. The Eulerian-Lagrangian approach and the low-dissipation simple high-resolution upwind scheme(LSHUS) have been adopted in the numerical code for the propellant combustion of the gun propelling charges. The ghost-cell extrapolation method has been used for the moving boundary in the chamber with the projectile movement. The calculation results of the developed code have been compared and verified through those of the dimensionless IBHVG2 code and the previous one-dimensional code. In comparison with the two-phase flows according to the drag models, the numerical analysis of the muzzle velocity has been affected by the drag model.
