  • The first local exchange trading system(LETS), established in Comox Valley in Canada, aimed at facilitating the regional economy. However, in Korea, LETS was adopted to encourage mutual aid and promote community spirit among residents. This study examines the feasibility of LETS as a revitalization initiative for Pumasi and suggests a number of policies that can be implemented to support the project. The findings are as follows: First, the LETS credit system was found to complement social capital initiatives among Pumasi participants in the early stages of the Pumasi project. Second, combining LETS and Pumasi initiatives was found to consolidate community spirit and encourage a cooperative way of life among participants due to the fact that LETS enlarges the scope of local residents' participation and diversifies the services being exchanged. A number of policy suggestions are made for combining LETS with Pumasi. First, the project must define a vision of its long-term purpose and outcomes. Second, local residents should be employed as assistants to facilitate the project. Third, Pumasi participants should ensure that childcare exchange services are of the highest quality by providing an educational program on parenting. Fourth, the project manager's employment conditions and working environments must be guaranteed.

  • Performing 'Mega Project' in which various stakeholders are involved is difficult to control due to the respective conflicting objectives. Urban regeneration which is being challenged issue in various ways can be defined as the mega project. Since the mega project like urban regeneration a long-continued project and includes a lot of participants whose benefits conflict, cooperation among stakeholders is essential. Moreover, as the project goes, diverse decision making situations which require collaboration happen, and if proper decision making cannot be given at that time, the whole project would have critical effects. Also, since each activity concerns numerous stakeholders, prompt decision making is difficult in the mega project. Therefore, the objective of this study is to support stakeholder's cooperative decision making in order for conducting successful project. For the purpose of the paper, the concept of cooperation in mega project is redefined and a cooperative decision making framework is suggested. Also, the term of governance, which means cooperative mechanism based on the mutual trust, information sharing and partnership, is applied to the newly defined cooperation. The suggested cooperative decision making framework contains the structure of stakeholders in urban regeneration project which enables participants to understand the relationship among bodies and checklists for supporting decision making appropriately. The application of the framework proposed in this research is expected to contribute subjects' suitable decision making by providing proper information in a timely manner.

This study draw the networks of Korean CDM industry by extracting major agents and surrounding agents and by analyzing the characteristics of the linkages. The project participants owning the CDM projects hires CDM consultancies and designated operational entities(DOEs). The technical knowledge for carbon emission reduction made links between project participants and the CDM project operational knowledge made links between project participants and CDM consultancies. Links between project participants and DOEs are affected by social and geographical proximities. The value of the knowledge for CDM industrial activities determined the role of agents and type of linkages. The agents with the irreplaceable knowledge could be a project conducting firms. This study investigates the influential factors and their impacts on the likelihood of project success in donation-based crowdfunding through the DonorsChoose case. The authors analyze the characteristics of project creator, characteristics of project, and behaviors of project participants in relation to the success or failure of the corresponding project. Consequently, the authors found that participants of donation-based crowdfunding exhibit altruistic behaviors and obtained the following specific results: First, donation participation and social capital of the project creator, and marginal help utility of receivers positively affect the success of project. Second, experience of past project creation of the project creator negatively affects the success of project. Third, past donations of the project creator to others' projects, when not appropriately signaled like on the DonorsChoose platform, may not exert a positive influence on the success of project and the reciprocity principle may not work.

Delays have been causing project cost overrun as well as it is a source of dispute hence damaging the relationship between the project participants. The purpose of this study was to explore the causes of delay risk through a field survey study. Data were collected from construction professionals working in owner, consultant and contractor organizations. All together 208 questionnaire instruments were used and analyzed by employing statistical tools (SPSS computer program). 19 delay factors were identified by this study, out of which following factors were critical: Frequent interruptions from public (local people, pressure group etc.), changed site condition, failure to provide required construction site, unrealistic project time estimation and design errors.

  • The purpose of this study was to apply the ADDIE instructional design model to develop multimedia rich project-based learning methods for effective instruction in a Korean mechanical engineering high school. This study was conducted as action research based on a high school situation. The study included 40 participants in a class purposively selected from 52 classes at 2080 student high school. Data were collected through observations, surveys and artifacts. Results indicated the multimedia rich project-based learning allowed students to take part in learning activities and there was close cooperation with and among group members to create better products. Also, the flexibility in the project-based learning environment allowed the participants to make decisions about their abilities, resources, and plans. Recommendations and implications for teacher educators as well as in-service and pre-service teachers are also presented.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of Action Research (AR) approach in nursing. Methods: Participants were 64 perioperative nurses recruited from C hospital in Gwangju, Korea. The nurses were engaged in the project through 2 cycles of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. A mixed-methods design was used to examine changes in participants and their knowledge management practice. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 program and qualitative reflection data underwent content analysis. Results: During the project, participants developed standardized pre-operative checklists and opened an Internet Cafe to better manage their perioperative nursing information. At the end of the project, there was a significant increase in nurses' knowledge management (p=.015) and the rate of surgical material prescription errors decreased from 8.0% to 2.9%. Core AR project team members' teamwork skills and organizational commitment increased significantly (p=.040, p=.301, respectively). The main themes that emerged from the qualitative data were learning how to solve problems in practice, facilitating team activities through motivation, barriers of large participation, and rewarded efforts and inflated expectations. Conclusion: The AR project contributed to empowering participants to solve local problems. AR is a useful methodology to promote changes in practices and research participants.
