  • The latest development of the Korean drama production industry has been accompanied by the steep rise in the number of players and the contraction of the advertizing market, which have combined to intensify the competition severely. Then, China happened. Entertainment agencies' logical strategic choice to maximize production revenue potential was to secure A-list actors who can sell, pushing up their prices, that process has continued to even compromise the health of the production industry as well as the agencies' financial integrity. The drama production industry, including entertainment agencies, should shift the strategic focus from simple production revenue generation to profit maximization through diversifying revenue sources like securing IP rights.

  • Recently, hotel industry has realized the importance of food and beverage sales for the profit maximization, and the focuses on restaurant management has been growing. Accordingly, menu management in the F/B department is one of the most key factors determining the success or failure of business. Therefore, in this study, entree menu items of french restaurant in the deluxe hotel was analysed with presently theorized model of menu analysis, classified into four menu items. Also it was analyzed how those classified menu items influence on sales, number of sold, food cost percentage, contribution margin And, proper ways was presented to make restaurant managers and menu planner in order to increase food operation sales through proper modifications and methods on various menu analysis matrix. In Pavesic's menu analysis method, all of menu items have impact on the sales, number of sold, contribution margin and Primes, Sleepers do so on the food cost. The finding of this study was that Pavesic's menu analysis is superior to menu analysis in terms of the sales, number of sold, food cost percentage, contribution margin. Therefore, Pavesic's menu analysis is useful and efficient method in order to conduct menu engineering.

  • As enterprises are getting bigger and bigger and more competecious, an engineering economy for the maximization of profit based on basic theory must be considered. This thesis present dynamic computer model for the decision which controls complicated and various man- machine system optimally. This model occur in general stage can be adaptable to every kind of enterprises. So, any one who has no expert knowledge is able to get the optimal solution. And decision tree used in this paper can be applied in every kinds of academic circles as well as whole the industrial world. This paper studied optimal management of engineering project based upon basic theory of engineering economy. It introduces and functionizes the variables which generalize every possible elements, set up a model in order to find out the variable which maximize the calculated value among many other variables. And the selected values ate used as decision- marking variables for the optimal management of engineering projects. It found out some problem of this model. They are : 1. In some kinds of man-machine system it refers to Probability, but other case, it depends on only experimental probability. 2. Unless decision making process (decision tree) goes on, this model can not be applied. So these cases, this paper says, can be solved by adapting finite decision tree which is analyzed by using the same technic as those in product introduction problem. And this paper set up the computer model in order to control every procedure quickly and optimally, using Fortran IV.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to evaluate two multinational companies that seem to have reconciled the two mandates of CSR and profit maximization while becoming multibillion dollar companies and examine their organizational culture and practices and their management and leadership in order to determine the controlling factors, if any, that have elicited their success while renowned for their CSR policies. Research design, data, and methodology - This is a case study, an analytical approach, which focuses on exploring and analyzing the CSR policies of Starbucks and IKEA. Results - IKEA and Starbucks considered their position in the global business environment and their social responsibilities as crucial and did more than a cursory lip service to the issues. In fact, they both took the more difficult long-term approach and tried to resolve the root causes for the environmental and social issues in their supply chain. Ultimately though, it is the ethical leadership of the top management that sets the tone for the organizational culture and its CSR. Conclusion - IKEA and Starbucks are "living proof" that a company can be successful while treating its employees and the community of suppliers and associates with respect and dignity and while making this world a better place.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of closed season policy using an integer linear programming, targeting the large purse seine fishery in Korea. In the analysis, based on Cheng and Townsend(1993), fishing effort (fishing days by month) was assumed to be distributed for profit maximization of vessels and catch of immature fish was estimated. The analytical results showed that the effects of closed season policy would vary in accordance with the monthly closures in terms of fishing profits and catch of immature fish. A closed season policy by month had different effects on fishing profits and catch of immature fish by species. It implies the importance of considering seasonal changes of fish species when limiting fishing efforts with the closed season policy.

  • Can eBay.com's fee structure coordinate the channel? It's a critical strategic problem in e-commerce operations and an interesting research hypothesis as well. eBay's fees include three parts: monthly subscription fee, insertion fee, and final value fee (i.e., a revenue sharing portion), which represent a generic form of revenue sharing fee structure between the retailer and the vendor in a supply chain. This research deals with such a channel consisting of a price-setting vendor who sells products through eBay's marketplace exclusively to the end customers. The up- and down-stream channel relationship is consignment-based revenue sharing. We use a game-theoretic approach with assumption of the retailer (i.e., eBay.com) being a Stackelberg-leader and the vendor being a follower. The Stackelberg-leader decides on the terms of revenue sharing contract (i.e., fee structure), and the follower (vendor) decides on how many units to sell and the items' selling price. This study formulates several profit-maximization models by considering the effects of the retail price on the demand function. Under such settings, we show that eBay's fee structure can improve the channel efficiency; yet it cannot coordinate the channel optimally.

  • A dynamic supply chain that is composed of many different companies with different rent roles and interests allows free joining and secession. Buyers place orders simultaneously and manufacturers should compete each other for the orders. The purpose of our paper is how to find the optimal formation of supply chain ill a global viewpoint while allowing each member company to pursue his local goal The dynamic nature of supply chain formation causes the variation of cost depending on how many orders a manufacturer would accept. We propose a multi-agent based negotiation protocol that efficiently leads to the formation of optimal supply chain without giving up maximization of the individual profit in multi-agent environment of the make-to-order industry. The goal of the negotiation is to form a supply chain to minimize the overall sum of manufacturers' manufacturing cost, and earliness cost and tardiness cost based on SET model. We compare the negotiation protocol with Branch & Bound method. Finally, the validity and performance of buyer's negotiation has been tested experimentally.

  • The economy of ship's size and speed is affected by the freight rates, sailing distances, cargo handling rates, fuel oil prices and even interest rates of the borrowed funds. It can be a step more powerful measures if the economic evaluation model takes in a cargo lot size which prevails in the shipping markets. This paper has dealt with hypothetical cargo lots which happen to the market with uniform distribution in probability. The evaluation models are either profit maximization method or cost minimization method. The former compares among different voyages in profitability to the invested funds, the later defines the transportation efficiency in ton-mile unit and be used in comparing two or more transportation means. This paper adopted both of above methods to derive out ships economical evaluation contours for the various ship's speed and deadweight for certain cargo lot sizes, which can be used as important managerial decision data in purchasing ships or selecting a most profitable one among the proposed voyages. This evaluation contours will also be efficiently used in appraising so called "handy size ships" in connection with port water depth and conditions of voyage tracks.ge tracks.

  • Purpose - The movie market has the characteristics of being a perfectly competitive market as well as a pure monopolistic market at the same time. This is because there are competitors in the industry but prices, although not fixed, have not changed a lot. Price competition may not have spread, but the competition is focused on artistic value, and the degree of box office success is most important. The artistic value is determined in the course of the production process. However, the degree of box office success is dependent upon the marketing manager. The marketing strategy represents the difference in the standard or quality of the movie. Inherently, the marketing manager adopts the entertainment strategy based on the quality of the foundation of the completed movie. At this time, the marketing manager knows the pertinent information (high quality/low quality) regarding the movie. This research study tries to reveal what should be the reasonable movie marketing expense, dependent on the quality of the movie. Research design, data, and methodology - Using a game scenario with different market players, the goal of the research analysis is to find out the following. First, the marketing expense is determined to maximize the profits after film production. Second, after the production costs are already committed, the manufacturer gets to choose the marketing level. At this time, there will be a profit maximization point, considering the competition. The premise of the research is as follows: if it is a good movie of quality, positive word of mouth increasing the audience continuously slows down the speed of the demand curve. If the movie quality is bad, the negative word of mouth decreasing the audience gradually hastens the speed of the demand curve. On the marketing side, when the manufacturer invests heavily in the marketing expense of the movie, consumer expectations increase to drive up the audience numbers. On the other hand, it is difficult to improve the profits excessively. When the manufacturer invests in marketing a little bit, the marketing expense is only relatively committed, therefore a lot of demand cannot be gained. Results - If a fixed market share is in a competitive situation, a low quality manufacturer expends relatively more marketing expense. If the situation assumes two manufacturers spend the same for the cost of production, the high quality manufacturer takes more profit. If the manufacturer expends less marketing budget to save costs, the optimum profit cannot be achieved since the other party (opponent) grabs the initial market share. Conclusions - In conclusion, investment is essential for market share to increase. We must refrain from a zero-sum game and have models where the game participants pursue the creative profits together. In the current film industry, there is the dominating logic of winner and loser but we have to create a film industry environment where the participants can be altogether satisfied and live together.

  • Sustainable development is important because the ultimate objective is efficient development combining the economic, social, and environmental aspects of urban conservation. Despite Korea's rapid urbanization and economic development, the distribution of resources is inefficient, and land-use is not an exception. Land use distribution is difficult, as it requires considering a variety of purposes, whose solutions lie in a multipurpose optimization process. In this study, Yangpyeong-eup, Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi-do, is selected, as the site has ecological balance, is well-preserved, and has the potential to support population increases. Further, we have used the genetic algorithm method, as it helps to evolve solutions for complex spatial problems such as planning and distribution of land use. This study applies change to the way of mutation. With four goals and restrictions of area, spatial objectives, minimizing land use conversion, ecological conservation, maximizing economic profit, restricting area to a specific land use, and setting a fixed area, we developed an optimal planning map. No urban areas at the site needed preservation and the high urban area growth rate coincided with the optimization of purpose and maximization of economic profit. When the minimum point of the fitness score is the convergence point, we found optimization occurred approximately at 1500 generations. The results of this study can support planning at Yangpyeong-eup.ausative relationship between the perception of improving odor regulation and odor acceptance.
