  • This study investigates the effect of the update Digital Rights Management (DMR) strategy on a firm's profit. The model developed by Kim and Talalayevsky (2007) is applied to the case of two representative Korean software firms. Specifically, this study shows the model suggested by Kim and Talalayevsky (2007) fits the reality of Korean firms' DMR strategies. Based on the result, this study makes some implications to managers and policy makers.

  • Melamine is an organic base and a trimer of cyanamide which contains 66% nitrogen by mass, but it was sometimes illegally added to food products in order to enhance the apparent protein content for the bigger profit. Many Chinese infants and pet animals fed melamine-containing formulas suffered acute kidney failure with renal crystal formation. Fish feeds were also recently found to be contaminated with melamine. This experiment has been designed to determine whether renal crystals can be experimentally induced in crucian carp (Carassius carassius) fed melamine and cyanuric acid (each at 400 mg/kg/day for 3 days) in combination, and to compare experimentally induced crystals with those from pet animals with triazine related renal failure. The results showed that all fish developed gold brown renal crystals arranged in radial spherulites in the renal tubules, similar to those detected in the pet animals.

  • The proliferation of electronic commerce(EC) has led manufactureres to consider Internet based marketing as a salient candidate for strategic diversification of marketing channel. In this case, each manufacturer can build its own Web store or rent an existing special EC store. Such decision making of ‘build’ or ‘rent’ can be analyzed by a game model which derives the Nash solutions for price and profit considering degree of competition with other competitive manufacturers. In this paper, to overcome the drawbacks of the traditional linear demand function, we first propose a new linear demand function which incorporates not only the price difference between competitive products but the awareness of Web stores perceived by the consumers, then design the game models to analyze the characteristics of three typical types of marketing channel in duopoly market. Based on the Nash solutions of the game models, we analyzed the effect of the degree of competition and Web awareness in selecting the optimal marketing channel.

  • In this paper, we consider the quality problem of black oxide process in casting for which Taguchi method is used. We explain simply the Taguchi method and existing problems in Black Oxide process. We analyze the problem by the quality improvement procedure proposed by Taguchi. The design factors and noises using cause-effect diagram are found, the experiment is made using orthogonal array. After ANOVA, the critical factors are determined and the optimal process condition is designed. After parameter design, we derive the tolerance levels. As a result of changing the levels of process parameters, the variance of quality characteristic was decreased by quarter and the average value was also decreased by half. We estimated the predictable profit of the improvement.

  • This paper gives an attempt to build a decision support tool linked with a simulation software called ARENA for evaluating and comparing the performance of the push and pull material driven strategies operating in the flow shop environment with a bottleneck resource as the shop's constraint. To be fair for such evaluation, the comparison must be made fairly under the optimal setting of both systems' operating parameters. In this study, an optimal-seeking heuristic algorithm, Genetic Algorithm (GA), is employed to suggest a systems' best design based on the economic consideration, which is the profit generated from the system. Results from the study have revealed interesting outcomes, letting us know the strength and weakness of the push and pull mechanisms as well as the effect of each operating parameter to the overall system's financial performance.

  • Purpose - This study aims to predict the audit reports of listed companies on the Tehran Stock Exchange by using meta-heuristic algorithms. Research design, data, methodology - This applied research aims to predict auditors reports' using meta-heuristic methods (i.e., neural networks, the ANFIS, and a genetic algorithm). The sample includes all firms listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange. The research covers the seven years between 2005 and 2011. Results - The results show that the ANFIS model using fuzzy clustering and a least-squares back propagation algorithm has the best performance among the tested models, with an error rate of 4% for incorrect predictions and 96% for correct predictions. Conclusion - A decision tree was used with ten independent variables and one dependent variable the less important variables were removed, leaving only those variables with the greatest effect on auditor opinion (i.e., net-profit-to-sales ratio, current ratio, quick ratio, inventory turnover, collection period, and debt coverage ratio).

  • In industrial society, the core competency of company was depend on the productivity. However the knowledge information era of the 21st century, the market power moved to downstream, the core competency of company is moved from productivity to how to make the products meet the market. Inventory was the burden of the company management. Most of company trying to reduce the inventory. In this study, analyze the impact of inventory to company's operating profit and the impact of distribution center consolidation to total inventory of company.

  • Due to the rapid growth in automated testing and manufacturing systems, screening inspection becomes very attractive. In this paper, we investigate the effects of limited capacity on screening inspection using a surrogate variable. The model is developed under the assumption that the reprocessed and nonreprocessed items are produced by the same manufacturing process and therefore their quality characteristics are independently and identically distributed. Profit models are constructed which involve four price/cost components; selling price, cost incurred by imperfect quality, reprocessing and quality inspection costs. Methods of finding the optimal screening limits are presented, and a numerical example is given. Sensitivity analyses are also performed to study the effect of a process standard deviation on this model.

  • This study is to show the importance of customer and to define the customer's meaning in food industry. According to previous research, a consumer is a very small part of customer. At present and in the future, a customer is not only a consumer but all of interior and exterior environments related to a company. However the scope of customer has been extended eventually. Therefore, it is important for a company to find out and secure the proper customer giving profit. This study considers a relative marketing as a way to impress a customer. It is a useful marketing technology to make profits and company's growth. And to achieve a relative marketing successfully, it is necessary to perceive a fundamental understanding and building an organization for workers. Therefore, this study propose that a company would accomplish followings to continue a quality growth. First, Understanding and confidence about workers. Second, Building the culture of a company's organization impressive to a customer Third, Continuing effort and interest ing about service. In conclusion, a company will accomplish a customer satisfaction successfully through developing a service organization and performing relative marketing.

  • This paper considers the problem of selecting the most profitable process mean for production processes where measurement errors exist in inspection systems. For such situations, a sequential inspection procedure is proposed to reduce measurement errors. The decision to accept, reject, or take an additional inspection of an item is made at every measurement point until the number of repeated measurements reaches its upper bound. An expected profit model is constructed and the optimal process mean, the cut-off values, and the upper bound of the number of repeated measurements are obtained when accepted(rejected) items are sold at regular(reduced) price. A numerical study is performed to investigate the performance of the proposed procedure.
