  • Construction performance and productivity improvement are key focus areas in construction industry for any nation. There have been frequent delays and cost overruns in construction projects and poor productivity is one of the major contributions. For this reasons, there have been many research studies performed on the improvement of construction productivity for several decades. However, measuring productivity on a construction job site is still not an easy work. Because collecting reliable data consistently from the job site requires a lot of personnel efforts causing extra time and cost. This paper provides a basic study on the application of image processing technology for measuring unit productivity. It presented the possibility of unit productivity measurement by image processing technology through case study.

  • This study analyzes the factors on the determinants of research productivity. In addition, this study uncovers the relationships between research productivity and various explanatory variables, and between explanatory variables. As for research productivity, 3 indices were used such as the number of papers, patents, and a combination of them. The data is the 3-year average from 2010-2012 by 1,383 researchers from 6 disciplines such as physics, chemistry, biology, mechanical engineering, electricity and electronics, and chemical engineering, reported to the National Research Foundation of Korea. Personal factors such as sex, age, academic rank and location of affiliation show the group difference for productivity. In addition, most resource factors such as the number of graduate students and research funds showed the same result with personal factors. As for the determinants, master and doctoral students and government funds are the most powerful factors for research productivity, but industry funds for patent and overall productivity.

  • The objective of this paper is to analyze the combined productivity at automated container terminal. We present a simulation model for transport vehicle that perform the container transportation between apron and yard with a perpendicular yard layout. Usually, the efficiency of container terminal is evaluated by productivity of container cranes at apron, and though there are enough support of transport vehicles and yard cranes, can improve the productivity of container cranes. Especially, transport vehicle is very important factor in productivity of container cranes and has variable work productivity according to loading and unloading situation. Therefore, a method that can estimate combined productivity of equipment is required. We performed various simulation experiment and analyzed combined productivity to estimate the required number of equipment.

  • This paper has explored when implementing SW development project of the IT service corporations, what factors affect its productivity in SW development methodology. The importance of the AHP analysis surveyed from the experts in IT service companies and related committee, was shown in the order of the following processes : 1) Deployment process 2) Management process 3) Establishment process. It is measured the methodology levels of establishment, deployment and management in each project using the survey results collected from project execution members and analyzed the productivity of projects that have been executed within 2 years. Using project methodology level, productivity correlation analysis, and regression analysis, this study confirms that the methodology deployment level brings positive effects significantly to SW development productivity. The significance of this study would be not only to research and analyze SW development productivity using the real project execution data but also to underline the necessities and the importance of steady research, deployment and support for SW development productivity improvement.

  • IT is the key enabler of digital economy. Appropriate usage of IT can provide a strategic competitive advantage to a firm in a dynamic competitive environment. However, there has been a continuing debate on whether IT can actually enhance the productivity of firms. This concept is called IT productivity paradox. In this study, we analyzed the causality among appropriate indicators to demonstrate the real impact of IT on productivity. The 12,100 sample data from 2011 were used for analysis. As expected, the results indicated that mobile device usage, website adoption, e-commerce, open source, cloud computing, and green computing positively influence IT productivity. This unprecedented large-scale analysis can provide clarification regarding the ambiguous causal mechanism between IT usage and productivity.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the multidimensional productivity of the shipbuilding performance and to explain the role of different factors, such as man-hour, dock period, number of building block, launching process rate, automatic welding percent, and drawing fault rate which are important production-related variables in most shipbuilding companies. The shipbuilding productivity is obtained using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach. Then, a Tobit model is considered to measure the influence of different factors on the measured productivity. The results reveal that this productivity measure can substitute a representative shipbuilding productivity index (CGT/man-hour) in shipbuilding industries. Also, this multidimensional productivity analysis using DEA and Tobit reveals complex relationships between production-related variables and CGT and sale.

  • Productivity is an important factor of the construction's success and growth. However, compared to the other industries, the study of productivity in the construction industry is still insufficient. Even though the Cast-in-Place piles work is also important in construction process, the research on the productivity is not enough. So, it is necessary for the systematic research on the productivity of Cast-In-Place Piles Work. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to classify lower productivity's cause and find a way to improve these situations. This study will give the checklist for the further study of factoring and improvement of the Cast-in-Place piles work productivity.

  • The productivity decrease in environment-friendly farming is the biggest obstacle for the development of environment-friendly food market. This paper aimed to analyze the productivity change in environment-friendly farming of fruit vegetables (oriental melon, watermelon, and strawberry). Box-Cox transformation model was used to infer the functional form of productivity change. The results showed that the periods of productivity restoration to 90% level in oriental melon, strawberry, and watermelon were 14.1 years, 11.4 years, and 6.0 years, respectively. The forms of productivity restoration of fruit vegetables showed differences due to their growth characteristics, incidences of crop pests, preference for the environment- friendly agricultural products, cultivation period and so on. Because the form and period of productivity restoration were different depending on kinds of fruit vegetable, the government policy should be established considering this point of view.

  • A movement for higher productivity is very important of the basis for industry society prosperity. Contineous productivity improvement have a right understanding of a conception of productivity and its effect that are removed an act before the trouble of higher productivity enforcement. It is that the theoretical principle of productivity improvement are harmonized of the stage of application, actual problems and considered a special characteristic of the enterprise in industry for contineous productivity improvement. A movement for higher productivity is used by way of a welfare society.
