The results are summarized as follows ; 1. Investigation of fruit setting characteristics to improve cucumber training type was resulted that the fruit-thinning was effective 3 nodes in Mannung- cheongjang and 4 nodes in Sayeup, because of defected yield potential and marketing value. 2. In the matter of early growing stage after training and cucumber quality at different treatment, cucumber weight at flowering curved cucumber and growth analysis of Mannungcheongjang were good in order of horizontal>vertical>slant training. And those of Sayeup were good in order of horizontal >slant> vertical training. 3. Aspect of light reception of cucumber plant in the level of plant height and accumulated leaf area index, vertical and horizontal training are better than slant in Mannungcheongjang, and there is order of horizontal >vertical >slant training in Sayeup. 4. Horizontal training in Mannungcheongjang was superior to any other case In view of cucumber number, productivity, and marketing rate. Therefore, this training was suggest ed of best method in cucumber cultivation.
BACKGROUND: The urgency of feeding the world's growing population while combating soil pollution, salinization and desertification requires suitable biotechnology not only to improve crop productivity but also to improve soil health through interactions of soil nutrient and soil microorganism. Interest in the utilization of microbial fertilizer has increased. A principle of nature farming is to produce abundant and healthy crops without using chemical fertilizer and pesticides, and without interrupting the natural ecosystem. Beneficial microorganisms may provide supplemental nutrients in the soil, promote crop growth, and enhance plant resistance against pathogenic microorganisms. We mixed beneficial microorganisms such as Bacillus sp. Han-5 with anti-fungal activities, Trichoderma harziaum, Trichoderma longibrachiatum with organic material degrading activity, Actinomycetes bovis with antibiotic production and Pseudomonas sp. with nitrogen fixation. This study was carried out to investigate the mixtures on the soil microflora and soil chemical properties and the effect on the growth of lettuce and cucumber under greenhouse conditions. METHODS AND RESULTS: The microbial mixtures were used with each of organic fertilizer, swine manure and organic+swine manure and compared in regard to changes in soil chemical properties, soil microflora properties and crop growth. At 50 days after the treatment of microorganism mixtures, the pH improved from 5.8 to 6.3, and the EC, $NO_3$-Na and K decreased by 52.4%, 60.5% and 29.3%, respectively. The available $P_2O_5$ and $SiO_2$ increased by 25.9% and 21.2%, respectively. Otherwise, the population density of fluorescent Pseudomonas sp. was accelerated and the growth of vegetables increased. Moreover, the population density of E. coli and Fusarium sp., decreased remarkably. The ratio of bacteria to fungi (B/F) and the ratio of Actinomycetes bovis to fungi (A/F) increased 2.3 (from 272.2 to 624.4) and 1.7 times (from 38.3 to 64), respectively. Furthermore, the growth and yield of cucumber and lettuce significantly increased by the treatment of microorganism mixtures. CONCLUSION(S): These results suggest that the treatment of microorganism mixtures improved the chemical properties and the microflora of soil and the crop growth. Therefore, it is concluded that the microorganism mixtures could be good alternative soil amendments to restore soil nutrients and soil microflora.

Ladino clover stolen growing in grazed sward transplanted in 1/5,000a Wagner pot with two rows and were grown in green house with 12h lighting. Fifty days after transplanting the first cutting was made, the secound and 3rd cutting was made 20 days after each harvest. Treatment were nitrogen fertilization level of 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 kg N/10a. Nitrogen was top dressed after transplanting and each cutting. Growing point, above and under ground DM yield, nitrogen fixation, crude protein of stolon, root and change of acetylene reduction activity after cutting were investigated. Result are as follows. 1. Growing point, DM production were heighst in 5 kg N at the first and 2nd harvest while 2.5 kg at 3rd cutting. Plants with 7.5 kg N/10a were dead at 3rd harvest. There were significant differences in growing point between treatment. 2 Nitrogen fixation of ladino clover were the heightest in 2.5 kg N pot at 1st cutting and as cutting and N fertilization were contiuned nitrogen fixation activity was lowered. 3. Leaf have more crude protein than that of stolen and root while plant crude protein increased by 2nd cutting as plant got more nitrogen fertilizer and again decreased in 3rd cutting. 4. Acetylene reduction activity were lowest at 3 week and recovered normal level at 5 week after cutting, also DM root was same trend.
The effects of adding hull powders of black soybean on quality characteristics of tobu were studied. Proximate composition of the black soybean hull powders was crude ash, crude protein, crude fat, and carbohydrate at 2.60, 11.35, 2.18, and 73.97%, respectively. The addition of 5% black soybean hull powder decreased the production of whey and consequently increased the yield of tobu. Texture properties of evaluation hardness, adhesiveness, chewiness were the best in tobu which was made with 5% black soybean hull powders. Sensory evaluation showed texture, firmness were not significantly different among tobu with yellow soybean, black soybean, and added to 0.5% black soybean hull powders. At the beginning of the period of storage, there were not differences of microbial cell count as increasing black soybean hull powders, but observed after passing 5 days. The results of total microbial cell count showed that adding 5% black soybean hull powders in processing tobu extend storage time.
A Trichoderma sp. SO-571 producing cellulase was isolated from soil, and a pilot-scale cultivation and separation of cellulase were conducted. The cellulase activity was about 14.5 unit/ml after 112 hr of cultivation in a 301 fermenter containing 3.0% cellulose, 4.0% soybean powder, 3.0% wheat bran, 0.5% ($NH_4$)$_2$$SO_4$0.2% urea, 1.0% CSL, 0.5% $KH_2$PO$_4$, and 0.2% Tween 80. The cellulase was purified over 4.6 folds in three steps with 47.86% yield. The optimum pH of cellulase was pH 5.0 and optimum temperature was $60^{\circ}C$. To investigate the effect of the cellulase-treated cellulosic fabric, the weight loss was compared. The weight loss of denim treated with cellulase from Trichoderma sp.SO-571 was 2.9% and that with Celluclast 1.5L was 2.2%. In tencel treatement with enzyme, cellulase showed 0.7% higer weight loss than that with Celluclast 1.5L.

Objective: A study was conducted to evaluate the varietal differences among faba bean straws and also to assess the potentials of faba bean straws supplemented with concentrate fed at the rate 70% straws and 30% concentrate mixture on feed intake, digestibility, body weight gain and carcass characteristics of the animals. Methods: Forty yearling Arsi-Bale sheep with initial body weight of $19.85{\pm}0.29kg$ (mean${\pm}$standard deviation) were grouped in a randomized complete block design into eight blocks of five animals each based on their initial body weight. Straws included in the study were from Mosisa (T1M), Walki (T2W), Degaga (T3D), Shallo (T4S), and local (T5L) varieties of faba bean and concentrate (2:1 ratio of wheat bran to "noug" seed cake). The experiment consisted of seven days of digestibility and 90 days of feeding trials followed by evaluation of carcass parameters at the end. Results: Local variety had lower (p<0.05) in grain and straw yield compared to improved varieties but higher in crude protein, metabolizable energy contents and in vitro organic matter digestibility. The apparent digestibility of dry matter and crude protein of sheep fed Walki and Mosisa straws were higher than (p<0.05) straws from Shallo varieties. Sheep fed Walki straw had greater (p<0.05) dry matter intake, average daily gain and feed conversion efficiency than sheep fed local and Shallo straws. Slaughter body weight and empty body weight were higher (p<0.05) for sheep fed Mosisa and Walki straws as compared to sheep fed Shallo straws. Apart from this, the other carcass components were not affected (p>0.05) by variety of the faba bean straws. Conclusion: There is significant varietal differences between faba bean straws both in quality and quantity. Similarly, significant variation was observed in feed intake, digestibility, body weight gain and feed conversion efficiency among sheep fed different straws of faba bean varieties with concentrate supplement. Based on these results, Walki and Mosisa varieties could be recommended as pulse crop rotation with cereals in the study area.
Induced androgenesis, a form of artificial parthenogenesis is an important tool for the generation and use of genetically isogenic or clonal fish strain. An optimized protocol for the genetic inactivation of mud loach (Misgurnus mizolepis) oocytes (i.e. production of androgenetic haploid) was developed using UV-irradiation. Various dose levels of UV significantly affected the fertilizing capacity of the eggs, hatchability of embryos and incidence of haploidy. Based on the extensive examinations of treatment conditions on embryo viability and haploid incidence, the optimum dose level of UV irradiation was turned out to be $10,800ergs/mm^2$ with 56.9% of hatching success and 94.6% of haploidy. The overall yield of putative androgen under optimized treatment condition was more than 50% out of total eggs inseminated. The success of androgenetic reproduction of haploid genome was verified by flow cytometry and PCR amplification of transgene that is exclusive to either one of parental sexes. However, a small portion $(8\sim11%)$ of presumed androgenetic haploid larvae was proven to contain residual DNA fragment(s) from maternal parent.
The condensation reaction of 9,9'-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)fluorene with epichlorohydrin to prepare 9,9'-bis[4(glycidyloxy) phenyl]fluorene (2), an important building block for fluorene-containing epoxy polymers, has been studied. The reaction is found to be quite sensitive to several experimental conditions such as reaction temperature and time, added amount of epichlorohydrin, the presence of catalysts and the use of co-solvent. Several conditions for obtaining the best yield in the reaction are: the reaction temperature is below 373 K and the reaction time is shorter than 1.5 h, and the ammonium salts act as a catalyst. Also, the use of ternary solvent (toluene, DMSO, water) has been proved to be crucial to maintain the reaction temperature and for an easy purification. Thus, the reaction proceeds in an environment-friendly manner where the use of reactants and the production of chemical wastes is minimized.
This review has shown the capability of MOFs and ZIFs materials to adsorb $CO_2$ under typical PSA temperatures and pressures. The usual operating conditions are adsorption temperatures of $15{\sim}40^{\circ}C$ and adsorption pressures of 4~6 bar based on numerous PSA processes which are widely employed in gases industry for adsorptive separation of $CO_2$. The extent of $CO_2$ adsorption on the microporous materials depends on the metal species and organic linkers existing in the frameworks. The pore size and the surface area, and the process variables are the key parameters to be associated with the efficiency of the adsorbents, particularly adsorption pressures if other variables are comparable each other. The MOFs and ZIFs materials require high pressures greater than 15 bar to yield significant $CO_2$ uptakes. They possess a $CO_2$ adsorption capacity which is very similar to or less than that of conventional benchmark adsorbents such as zeolites and activated carbons. Consequently, those materials have been much less cost-effective for adsorptive $CO_2$ separation to date because of very high production price and the absence of commercially-proven PSA processes using such new adsorbents.
Deinococcus geothermalis is a moderate thermophillic radiation resistant bacterium producing greater abundance of sugar metabolism enzymes than other Deinococcus species. In this study, optimal condition for xylanolytic activity of D. geothermalis was determined and xylooligosaccharides from oat spelt, beechwood, and birchwood xylan hydrolysates by this organism were analyzed through HPLC. Reducing sugar yield was increased in the order of beechwood, birchwood, and oat spelt xylan. D. geothermalis displayed maximal xylanolytic activity at $40^{\circ}C$ and pH 8.0. Magnesium ion increased xylanolytic activity upto 7.5 fold. Six kinds of xylooligosaccharides (xylose, xylobios, xylotriose, xylotetraose, xylopentaose, and xylohexalose) were detected from beechwood and birchwood xylan reaction products. Among them, xylose was the major product. However, only three kinds of xylooligosaccharides (xylose, xylopentaose, and xylohexalose) were clearly detected from oat spelt xylan. Gamma-ray (50 kGy) treatment of beechwood xylan, birchwood xylan and oat spelt xylan increased xylanolytic activity of D. geothermalis. The results indicate that D. geothermalis and pretreatment of radiation is useful for xylooligosaccharides production.
