  • Rise in cutting force causes tool damage and worsens product quality resulting in machining accuracy deterioration. Especially, fragile material cutting brings about breakage of material and worsens product surface quality. In this study, we trace the locus of cutting force and examine the machined surface corresponding to the cutting force loci. and build up a monitoring system for deciding normal operation or not of cutting process.

  • Due to increasing demand toward improving product quality, various methodologies have been introduced. A brush type grinding tool is one of the most frequently used one to facilitate required process. In order to produce consistent burr shape, various machining conditions have been combined applied to disk grinding process. It has been observed that the burr dimension(shape and width) depends on the inclination angle between grinding disk and workpiece. Drastic increase of tool Wear has been also observed along the inclination angle variation. Various burr shapes have been captured and analyzed using image processing technique.

  • The reduction of product development time is exposed to the competitive pressure due to shortened product-and production technology lifecycles as well as increasingly dynamic markets. Specially in automobile companies, that is of major importance for designing die because it is a bottleneck process in the development of a new car. To improve this conventional design process, this paper describes how to design it fast and flexibly. This was done by a modular method using standard template and a feature and knowledge based design method along the design process.

  • When developing a product, ensuring the quality and reliability is essential. Reliability process is always underestimated compared to its importance, especially in the field of domestic medical devices. In this paper, reliability process developed for near-infrared solid microscope, based on a variety of existing practices and other product process. The following findings were obtained as research progressed. First, learning about the medical equipment needed to assure the quality and reliability standards. Second, reliability process established to design a product in the field of medical devices.

  • Mold making and product manufacturing process was made by a die through a number of stages. Thereby, it takes a long period of time from the manufacture of mold until passed the products to consumers. However, it is not possible to meet the diverse desires purchasing of consumer. We made a 3D CAD Model aligned with product scan data using reverse engineering. Utilizing thereafter flow analysis to derive the optimal mold conditions, by applying the condition, and devised a mold fabrication process that is much shorter than the conventional process for fabricating a mold. In this study, the outlet cover to the product, it describes a process, as a result, it was confirmed that the number of steps can be shortened much more than the conventional process.

  • The environment surrounded by industries is represented by the 3Cs : Customers, Competition, and Changes. The 3Cs drive industries to pursue external business targets such as customer's needs and marketplaces with BPR (Business Process Reengineering). BPR addresses core business process. One of these core business processes is product development. This product development process has been reengineered by the concept of CE (Concurrent Engineering). The aim of the paper is to build frameworks of CE to clarify the CE concept. This paper begins with investigating the product development process from the perspectives of three drivers: cost, quality and speed. CE frameworks are then followed. The first frmework is concerned with the CE definition and thus three keyphrases are extracted : from the outset, concurrent design and systematic approach. Concerned with the CE implementation, the second framework is composed of five components: generalist & specialist, cross-function team, enabling tools & techniques, success metrics, and total visibility. This paper concludes that the CE practice is hard to achieve because of the 'dont't-tell-them-early' attitude of upstream people, and the 'wait-and-see' attitude of downstream people. As resolution, a change management program is recommended that changes an employees mind-set. This paper also supposes computer systems which facilitate and keep automatic track of the CE process as engineered. Finally it gives a warning that computer systems alone do not guarantee success without being preceded by process re-engineering.

  • 이 논문은 산업적으로 생산되는 제품의 개인화를 위한 디자인 방법과 그 과정을 연구하고, 그 결과로서 단위 구성 시스템 디자인을 제안하는 것이다. 따라서 본 연구는 산업사회에서의 개인화를 밝히고, 시스템적 접근법으로 산업적 생산제품의 사용과정을 분석하여 사용과정의 시스템을 규명하는 것에서 출발하고 있다. 사용과정의 시스템은 산업제품의 기능과 연관되어 있다. 따라서 산업제품의 기술 시스템 이론을 적용하여 사용 과정의 시스템을 구성하는 단위를 정의하고, 그 단위로 구성되는 시스템의 디자인을 열린 시스템으로서 규명한다. 그리고 개인용 컴퓨터를 대상으로 한 단위 구성 시스템의 실천적 구현을 통해 그 타당성과 한계를 밝히고 있다.

  • Small cracks or chips of a product appear very frequently in the course of continuous production of an automatic press process system. These phenomena became the cause of not only defective product but also damage of a press mold. In order to solve this problem AE(Acoustic emission) system was introduced. AE system was expected to be very effective to real time detection of the defective product and for the prevention of the damage in the press molds In this study, for the pick and analysis of AE signals generated from the press process, AE sensors/pre-amplifier/analysis and processing board were used as frequently found in the other similar cases. For the analysis and processing the AE signals picked in real time from the normal or the detective products, specialized software called AE-win(software for processing AE signal from Physical Acoustics Corporation) was used. As a result of this work it was conformed that intensity and shape of the various AE signals differ depending on the weight of the press and thickness of sheet and process type.

곡률압출공정을 이용한 알루미늄 Bumper Back Beam 개발 (Development of Al Bumper Back Beam by Using Curvature Extrusion Process)

  • Curvature extrusion process has several advantages in comparison to the conventional extrusion and bending process. In the curvature extrusion, the extruded part is directly bent during extrusion. Therefore, it does not need additional bending process after extrusion. In the curvature extrusion process, it is possible to produce curved extruded products that have a constant or various curvatures. It is essential that we predict the curvatures of the extruded product to meet the required curvatures. This paper proposed a theoretical model that can predict the curvature of extruded product produced by the curvature extrusion process. Using the proposed model the movement of guide tool that causes the bending of extruded product was controlled to produce the required curved automotive Al bumper back beam. The effectiveness of the proposed prediction model and the movement of guide tool were verified by the FE analysis and curved extrusion experiment.
