  • With the limited product information available in the m-shopping context, product-naming strategies affect consumer choices by expressing the key product features or the brand's images. Given the increasing dominance of the mobile commerce in consumption across various product categories, few studies have examined the role of product naming in consumer choices in the m-shopping. In filling the research gap, this study empirically analyzes the influence of the perceived diagnosticity of product names in m-shopping on consumer attitude towards the product. Moreover, the study tests the moderating influences of the individual characteristics of consumers (i.e., age, gender, and m-shopping experience) in the dynamics of the perceived diagnosticity impacting the product evaluations. The results of the study using an online survey reveal that the perceived diagnosticity of the product names significantly increases consumer attitude towards the product. Additionally, the moderating effects of gender, age, and m-shopping experience are all found significant: (1) The positive influence of the perceived diagnosticity of the product names is greater for males than for females. (2) The older the respondent, the more statistically significant the positive influence on diagnosticity. (3) The more respondents having m-shopping experience, the more positive the impact of the diagnosticity. Implications and limitations of the study are discussed.

  • In this study, 70 national brands among men's wear brands were selected to examine linguistic characteristics of domestic national men's wear brand names. Linguistic factors which were used in national men's wear brand names were analyzed to understand their characteristics. Formative and semantic characteristics of each brand name were analyzed on the basis of the results from previous studies. It was found that long words with over four syllables are preferred than short words and single words in the form of noun are frequently used for domestic national men's wear brand names in terms of linguistic formality. English is most widely used in brand names, and European languages such as French, Spanish, and Italian are also used frequently under the influence of the country of origin. Next, the analysis result on the semantic characteristics of domestic national men's wear brand names showed that descriptive brand names are used to convey brand information directly and easily, or freestanding brand names which are absolutely irrelevant and newly coined words are chosen to create a characteristic image. In other words, brand names represent detailed business and product category of men's wear by forming a brand image of men's wear (ex. Man, Homme, Zio), and provide the information about properties and benefits related to the product such as dignity, masterpiece, and luxurious lifestyle to consumers by presenting the concept of the brand.

  • This study used text mining to extract 2,842 keywords from 7,397 product names and organized them into categories in order to analyze the characteristics of keywords appearing in the product names of jeans after 2020. The item category included denim and Chungbaji [청바지], and Ilja [일자], while the silhouette category included wide and bootcut. In addition, high-waist and banding comprised the making sector, and the materials category consisted of napping, spandex, and soft blue. Denim surpassed the others in frequency, co-occurrence frequency, and centrality, and co-appeared with various other keywords. Also, the co-appearance of item and silhouette was prominent, and there were many keyword combinations that showed characteristics related to (a) high waist; (b) hemline detail; (c) rubber band; and (d) partial tearing. Furthermore, idiom expressions such as 'slim fit' and 'back tearing', which were not highlighted in the co-occurrence frequency, were additionally confirmed through correlation. Therefore, the product name analysis effectively identified the detailed characteristics of the silhouette and the making of jeans preferred by consumers.

  • In this study, text mining was conducted on the product names of skirts, pants, shirts/blouses, and dresses to analyze the characteristics of keywords appearing in online shopping product names. As a result of frequency analysis, the number of keywords that appeared 0.5% or more for each item was around 30, and the number of keywords that appeared 0.1% or more was around 150. The cumulative distribution rate of 150 terms was around 80%. Accordingly, information on 150 key terms was analyzed, from which item, clothing composition, and material information were the found to be the most important types of information (ranking in the top five of all items). In addition, fit and style information for skirts and pants and length information for skirts and dresses were also considered important information. Keywords representing clothing composition information were: banding, high waist, and split for skirts and pants; and V-neck, tie, long sleeves, and puff for shirts/blouses and dresses. It was possible to identify the current design characteristics preferred by consumers from this information. However, there were also problems with terminology that hindered the connection between sellers and consumers. The most common problems were the use of various terms with the same meaning and irregular use of Korean and English terms. However, as a result of using co-appearance frequency analysis, it can be interpreted that there is little intention for product exposure, so it is recommended to avoid it.

Associative brand names are generally used to express the effect of enhancing brand awareness by considering the phonetic image of the word or prompting a masculine and favorable image. Descriptive brand names use language symbols such as men, homme, man, monsieur and gentle to represent specific business and product categories for men, and also use stem, plant, flower, skin, beauty, moisturizing, tosowoong and so on to provide the properties and beneficial information related to the products. • The opinion of user on a certain product is expressed in positive/negative sentiments for specific features of it. In some cases, they are expressed for a holistic part of homogeneous specific features, or expressed for product itself. Therefore, in the area of opinion mining, name of opinion features to be extracted are specific feature names, holonyms for theses specific features, and product names. However, when the opinion target is described with product name or holonym, sometimes it may not match feature name of opinion sentence to true opinion target intended by the reviewer. In this paper, we present a method to extract opinion targets from opinion sentences. Most importantly, we propose a method to extract true target from the feature names mismatched to a intended target. First, we extract candidate opinion pairs using dependency relation between words, and then select feature names frequently mismatched to opinion target. Each selected opinion feature name is replaced to a specific feature intended by the reviewer. Finally, in order to extract relevant opinion features from the whole candidate opinion pairs including modified opinion feature names, candidate opinion pairs are rearranged by the order of user's interest.

  • This paper presents a method for the multilingual product retrieval agent through XML and the semantic networks in e-commerce. Retrieval for products is an important process, since it represents interfaces of the customer contact to the e-commerce. Keyword-based retrieval is efficient as long as the product information is structured and organized. But when the product information is expressed across many online shopping malls, especially when it is expressed in different languages with cultural backgrounds, buyers' product retrieval needs language translation with ambiguities resolved in a specific context. This paper presents a RDF modeling case that resolves semantic problems in the representation of product information and across the boundaries of language domains. With adoption of UNSPSC code system, this paper designs and implements an architecture for the multilingual product retrieval agents. The architecture is based on the central repository model of product catalog management with distributed updating processes. It also includes the perspectives of buyers and suppliers. And the consistency and version management of product information are controlled by UNSPSC code system. The multilingual product names are resolved by semantic networks, thesaurus and ontology dictionary for product names.
