  • We have studied structural, optical, and electrical properties of the Al-doped ZnO (AZO) thin films being usable in transparent conducting oxides. The AZO thin films were deposited on the corning 1737 glass plate by the RF magnetron sputtering system. To find optimal properties of AZO for transparent conducting oxides, the RF power in sputtering process was varied as 40 W, 60 W, and 80 W, respectively. As RF power increased, the crystallinity of AZO thin film was decreased, the optical bandgap of AZO thin film increased. The transmittance of the film was over 80% in the visible light range regardless of the changes in RF power. The measurement of Hall effect characterizes the whole thin film as n-type, and the electrical property was improved with increasing RF power. The structural, optical, and electrical properties of the AZO thin films were affected by Al dopant content in AZO thin film.

  • We report on the electrical, optical, and structural properties of indium zinc tin oxide (IZTO) anode films grown at room temperature on glass substrate. The IZTO anode films grown by a RF magnetron sputtering were investigated as functions of RF power, working pressure, and process time in pure Ar ambient. To investigate electrical, optical and structural properties of IZTO anode films, 4-point probe, Hall measurement, UV/Vis spectrometer, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were performed, respectively. A sheet resistance of $13.88\;{\Omega}/{\square}$, average transmittance above 80 % in visible range were obtained from optimized IZTO anode films grown on glass substrate. These results shown the amorphous structure regardless of RF power and working pressure due to low substrate temperature.

  • Background: It has been suggested that engaging technology can empower individuals to be more proactive about their health and reduce their health risks. The aim of the present intervention was to study the effects of technology-aided testing and feedback on physical activity and biological age of employees in a middle-sized enterprise. Methods: In all, 121 employees (mean age $42{\pm}10$ years) participated in the 12-month three-arm cluster randomized trial. The fitness measurement process (Body Age) determined the participants' biological age in years. Physical activity was measured with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form. Results: Physical activity did not change during the intervention. Biological age (better fitness) improved in all groups statistically significantly (p < 0.001), but with no interaction effects. The mean changes (years) in the groups were -2.20 for the controls, e2.83 for the group receiving their biological age and feedback, and -2.31 for the group receiving their biological age, feedback, and a training computer. Conclusion: Technology-aided testing with feedback does not seem to change the amount of physical activity but may enhance physical fitness measured by biological age.

  • This paper shows the development process of a straight-type five-hole pressure probe for measuring three-dimensional flow velocity components. The data reduction method using a bi-cubic curve-fitting program in a new calibration map was introduced in this study. This new calibration map can be applied up to the application angle, ${\pm}55^{\circ}$ of a probe. As a result, for the application angle of ${\pm}45^{\circ}$, an error for yaw and pitch angles appeared from $-1.76^{\circ}\;to\;1.83^{\circ}$ and from $-1.91^{\circ}\;to\;1.75^{\circ}$, respectively. Moreover, an error for a vector magnitude and a static pressure compared with a dynamic one showed from -7.83% to 4.87% and from -0.73 to 0.77, respectively. Even though this data reduction method showed unsatisfactory errors in a vector magnitude, it resulted in an easy and simple application method. Especially, when it was applied to an actual flow field including a swirling flow, a good result came out on the whole. However, in order to obtain a better result, it is thought that a more sophisticated interpolation method needs to be introduced.

  • The characteristics of corrosion resistance for the surface of ductile cast iron(GCD40) by plasma nitriding process have been studied in terms of electrochemical polarization behaviors including corrosion potential($E_{corr}$), anodic polarization trends, polarization resistance($R_p$), and also have been studied microstructures, hardness and specific wear of nitrided layer Nitrided layer showed an enhanced hardness values in all the plasma nitriding condition investigated. In the result of wear test, specific wear of nitrided specimens were much decreased than that of non-treated specimens. In the results of XRD, ${\gamma}'phase\;and\;{\varepsilon}$ phase were detected in nitrided surface. And it was found that ${\varepsilon}$ phase was decreased and ${\gamma}'phase$ was increased respectively, as the nitriding time became longer. In the test of corrosion resistance, natural potentials in all the nitrided specimens were towards noble directions than in the case of non-treated specimens. The measurement of electrode potentials revealed that corrosion resistivity of plasma nitrided specimens were higher than in the case of the non-treated specimens.

  • The studies of the spray characteristics for a CRDI engine had been advancing by many researchers, because the performance and exhaust emission were significantly affected with the spray characteristics. But most experiments of the studies would be done at low ambient pressure conditions under 2MPa. In this study, injection rates were measured with Zeuch's method at various ambient pressures to 5MPa and a constant injection pressure of 130MPa. On the same conditions, non-evaporating spray images were taken with a high speed camera and analyzed carefully with Adobe Photoshop CS3. Macroscopic spray characteristics and breakup processes in the spray could be found from the examined and analyzed data. The initial injection rate, penetration, angle, velocity and breakup of the spray were practically affected with a variation of the ambient pressure, but the injection start time and injection period were scarcely affected. As the ambient pressure was higher, the breakup of a high density droplet region in the spray was happened slowly and the main position of breakup was shifted from a front of the spray to a upstream around a nozzle. The results and techniques of spray visualization and injection rate measurement in this study would be practically effective to study a high pressure diesel spray for a CRDI.

  • Fracture toughness was considered as one of the good estimates of the paper break tendency of paper web in the press room. Paper break on the paper machine is caused by many factors such as paper machine irregular vibrations, impurities in the fiber furnish, shives, and so on. On the paper machine, the solid content of paper web is changing very rapidly from less than 1% to over 95%. We tried to measure the fracture toughness of paper web at different solid contents for providing the fundamental knowledge of paper break. Stretches of wet web were also measured and compared to the fracture toughness changes. Four different fiber furnishes (SwBKP, HwBKP, ONP, and OCC) were refined to different degrees, and at different solid contents (40%, 60%, 80% and 95%), their fracture toughnesses were measured. Two fracture toughness measurement methods (essential work of fracture and Tryding's load-widening method) were used, and we found they gave identical results. The stretch curves of the wet webs against the axis of solid contents were very similar to the fracture toughness curves of those.

  • In situ surface magneto-optic Kerr effect(SMOKE), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and low energy electron diffraction(LEED) were used to study magnetic and structural properties of ultrathin Fe films grown on the Pd(111) surface. The SMOKE measurement showed strong enhancement of ferromagnetism after proper annealing process. Simultaneous changes in morphology was checked by LEED and XPS. After room temperature Fe deposition. longitudinal magnetization appeared above a critical thickness between 2.0 and 2.5 monolayers. When annealed at 450K, 2.0 monolayer Fe film exhibited boty longitudinal and polar magnetizations while 3.0 and 5.5 monolayer films showed little changes. After annealing at 600K, both magnetizations were totally destroyed in 2.0 monolayer film, but longitudinal magnetization was enhanced in 3.0 monolayer film. In the case of 5.5 monolayer film, it was only after 660K annealing that the enhancement of the longitudinal magnetization was observed. It was concluded that the surface flatness and the amount of intermixing were critical in the development of surface magnetism of this system.

  • Hemming process, composed of flanging, pre-hemming and main hemming, is the last one of a series of forming processes conducted on the automotive panels, having a great influence on the outward appearance of them. The hem quality can be quantitatively defined by the hemming defects including turn-down, warp and roll-in. However, it is difficult to evaluate and predict the hem quality through the experimental measurement or the numerical calculation since the size of defects is very small. This study is focused on how to simulate in the finite element analysis (FEA) the same conditions as in the experiment. The FEA result on turn-down, that was obtained from a finite element model including the spring element linked to the flanging pad, had a good correlation with the experimental data. It was found that the radius of curvature of the flange deeply affects the final hem quality and therefore high rigidity of forming tools and tight assembling tolerance are highly recommended. An over-stroke of the main hemming punch is also proposed to reduce the turn-down.

  • Using a fiber laser heat source, an oil pressure sensor was fabricated to measure the pressure in commercial vehicles. A stepping motor was used for the rotational and translational motion in the diaphragms and hardware joining. Laser welding process algorism including shielding gas control and vision system was integrated by using LabVIEW software for the high quality welding and in-line monitoring purpose. For the maximum flexibility in pressure transmission to the pressure sensor, thin sheet metal diaphragm, $25{\sim}50{\mu}m$(SUS-316L), was used and the diaphragms were optimally designed with FEM analysis. The welded samples were cross-sectioned the observation showed that the maximum depth ratio was more than seven times of diaphragms. The maximum welding speed was measured to be as high as 50in/mm by the developed automation mechanism. The fabricated prototypes were tested for the proof pressure, spring constant and sealing. The FEM results of spring constant measurement was as accurate as up to 80% of the design value and the sensor was safely operated up to the nominal pressure of 10bars.
