  • This study was begun with the object of actively reflection the rapid technological advancements of the electronical control and mechanical control industries to sewage disposal methods. Or focuses on applying a flow control method that utilizes inverters and automatic valves to sewage treatment process systems. This study proposes that sewage treatment process systems architects must acquire a certain degree of technical skills in the areas of electrical and mechanical controls in order to raise the standard of completeness of sewage treatment process systems. And further emphasizes that there is required continuous research on automatics valves that are used in sewage treatment.

  • Quality assurance in the process of manufacturing high strengh bolt sets used in the frictional joints of structures in one of important concern to users as well as to manufactures. In case of occurrences of either defective or low-quality products, even if they are quite rare, some systematic means of localizing the cause-characteristics and matching to corresponding production process is necessary. Control chart of torque factor is the primary indicatir in finding defectiveness of the products. Use of correlation diagrams ofnhardness of the bolt set presents in part a way of screening the cause. Retest data of the bolt set provide additional ideas of localizing the cause, for which theoretical background is presented in this regard. A process-characteristics matrix relating the causes of low quality to the corresponding process of manufacturing, which is of prime importance for the feedback control of production, is also proposed. Finally general features of control to assure quality of the set is described.

  • ESR(ElectroSlag Remelting) Process is secondary fine process and melts steels by electric resistance heat and fines the melting steels by an approproate solidification process. The final products are determined through the velocity of melting and the course of solidification in the process that is achieved by way of proper course of solidification. Thus, it is very important to monitor and control the process parameters which affects the melting and solidification process to get the high quality products.   • This study describes a pressure tracking control of hydroforming process which is used for precision forming of sheet metals. The hydroforming operation is performed in the high-pressure chamber strictly controlled by pressure control valve and by the upward motion of a punch moving at a constant speed, The pressure tracking control is very difficult to design and often does not guarantee satisfactory performances be-cause of the punch motion and the nonlinearities and uncertainties of the hydraulic components. To account for these nonlinearities and uncertainties of the process and iterative learning controller is proposed using Cerebellar Model Arithmetic Computer (CMAC). The experimental results show that the proposed learning control is superior to any fixed gain controller in the sense that it enables the system to do the same work more effectively as the number of operation increases. In addition reardless of the uncertainties and nonlinearities of the form-ing process dynamics it can be effectively applied with little a priori knowledge abuot the process.

Guidelines for Designing Earcons to Deliver Process Control Information using its Semantic Association (한국인의 스테레오타입에 부합하는 공정제어용 이어콘 설계 가이드라인의 도출)

  • It is presumable that properly designed earcons given simultaneously with visual information could enhance the situation awareness of operators when they are involving in highly complicate process control activities. In this study, population stereotypes of earcons with respect to process control information were identified using 60 Korean subjects. To do this, 11 most distinctive earcons were selected from various earcons having different pitch, rhythm, and timbre. Associations between the selected earcons and 40 pairs of adjectives used to describe the state of control in process were gathered from 37 subjects using a semantic differential method. Based on the results from multivariate analyses, the 40 pairs of adjectives were aggregated into three distinctive semantic dimensions. The emotional maps of the 11 earcons matched with the semantic dimensions were presented in this study. On the basis of these results, a general guideline was suggested for designing earcons to deliver process control information.

A Fuzzy Shape Control Method for the Stainless Steel at the Cold Rolling Process (스테인리스 냉연공정에서 퍼지 형상제어)

  • The strip shape for the stainless steel process has made an issue of the strip quality, and hence the shape control method is developed at the Sendzimir rolling mill (ZRM). ZRM is a stainless cold rolling mill and has actuators for the shape control. They are first intermediate rolls and top crown rolls, which are controlled horizontally and vertically, respectively. The shape control of the stainless steel rolling process has difficulty in obtaining the symmetrical shape. The objective of the shape control is to minimize the shape deviation and to maintain stable state, which keeps symmetrical shape pattern in the lateral direction. The method of the shape recognition employs a least squares method and neural network. The shape deviation is the difference between the target shape and actual shape and is controlled by the fuzzy shape control. The fuzzy shape control using operator's informative knowledge is proposed in this paper. The experiments are carried out online for various stainless materials and sizes. The productivity of the rolling process has increased from 9.0 to 9.4 tons per hour.

  • This paper describes the systematic control method of process information transfer and machine cell control in FMS implementation. We have constructed an experimental FMS computer network and control system. The system hardware consists of host computer to manage process data and information transfer of machine cells, cell control computers to control machine cells(NC lathe, machining center). On the other hand, software is made up of oredr management module, NC program searching and generation module, NC part program error check module and cell control module. In this study, we could arrive at conclusion as following : The first, each task could be accomplihed by the efficient information transfer in hierachical computer network. The second, data base system of part programs and process control data is needed for the efficint information transfer and production management. Lastly, expansion of FMS control system could be achieved by the hierachical and decentralized computer control system.

  • Purpose: A Control chart is one of the important statistical process control tools that can improve processes by reducing variability and defects. Methods: In the present study, we propose the local $T^2$ multivariate control chart that can efficiently detect abnormal observations by considering the local pattern of the in-control observations. Results: A simulation study has been conducted to examine the property of the proposed control chart and compare it with existing multivariate control charts. Conclusion: The results demonstrate the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed control chart.

  • This paper develops a new VSI $\={X}-CRL$ synthetic control chart that considers convenience of use in the field, and perception of change of process applying VSI techniques to synthetic control chart, simultaneously. We found the optimal sampling interval and various control limit factor of the suggested chart using markov chain. Comparison and analysis is carried out between synthetic VSI $\={X}-CRL$ chart and other chart in the statistical aspect; $\={X}$ control chart, VSI $\={X}$ chart, another synthetic chart. In case that the process follows normal distribution, the proposed VSI $\={X}-CRL$ synthetic control chart in detecting process mean shift showed the best performance in aspect of statistical performance, regardless of control limit L of CRL/S control chart.

  • A new control scheme s proposed for the control of reactive batch distillation (RBD) column. A nonlinear wave model captures the essential dynamic behavior of the RBD process. The proposed control scheme is based on both Generic Model Control(GNC) and nonlinear wave model. The control scheme uses a profile position of the column as a controlled variable. Ethanol esterification process using RBD is chosen as an example process. Tight control of the distillate purity is obtained with the use of the proposed control scheme.
