The world has faced with various environmental problems such as climatic change, global pollution, and depletion of natural resources. Conventional economic development continues not only to intensify the magnitude of the problems but also to damage growth potential of future generations. Therefore, recent manufacturers are highly required to accommodate themselves to sustainable development that aims at preventing the loss to the future generations. Moreover, the manufacturers are under heavy pressure from various environmental regulations. This paper proposes green bill of material (Green-BOM) which conforms to the environmental regulations to restructure eco-friendly manufacturing system. Green-BOM is useful for managing green product and process information to satisfy several environmental regulations by recording energy consumption, recycle rate, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), substance information, and so on.

Most design changes are due to interferences and fit-up as parts are assembled if such a large product as an automobile or an aircraft is developed by many concurrent engineers. In this part (1) of the thesis, the assembly-centric modeling methodology with CAD systems is proposed in order to reduce the design changes. Unlike part-centric modeling method, a part is modeled with its own coordinate system which is used in downstream process as machining and measuring. The part coordinates initially have the same orientation as its assembly which is predefined in BOM (Bill of Material). Then, the corrdinates origin of the part is moved to its location to be assembled from that of its assembly coordinate system. To implement this methodology, the position data of the part w.r.t. its assembly are stored in a database to build the same hierarchical assembling structure as BOM structure. This modeling approach has the advantage of reflecting asembling sequence, because the process of positioning parts is similar to that of real assembling. And with the method, a designer can easily adjust all of the part positions of an assembly to resolve interferences if he modifies just the coordinates origin of the assembly, which results in moving included parts and assemblies together.
In customer-oriented make-to-order manufacturing environments, the works of BOM changes due to the changes of product specification and engineering are closely connected with almost all departments such as sales, engineering, production, procurement, cost, after service, etc within an enterprise. So, the contents of BOM changes must be instantly reflected on the related works among the departments. To effectively process these complex works of BOM changes, types of changes on product specification and engineering and types of BOM changes linked with those must be systematically defined, classified and managed by information systems. Thus, it is necessary to introduce solutions such as BPM and SOA in order to efficiently deal with complex business processes like BOM change management. This paper proposes a methodology of constructing information systems based on BPM and SOA. The proposed methodology defines the relationship between processes of BPM for definition, execution, monitoring, etc of business processes and services of SOA for connection among information systems within an enterprise, and presents a scheme of practically applying BPM and SOA solutions to actual business works. To show an utilization of the proposed methodology, the prototype system for product BOM management is implemented in order to efficiently deal with the works of BOM changes due to the changes of product specification and engineering.

Shipbuilding is a complex industry which contains a lot of knowledge, technology, and utilities. Hence, the necessity of the PLM (Product Life-cycle Management) system which manages life-cycle information of marine product has been increased. So, many studies related to shipbuilding PLM have been preceded, and there are some cases to be built. To implement collaboration and concurrent engineering of ship designing and manufacturing, interoperability of product data in heterogeneous system is required. Also, sharing and reusing knowledge are important for innovation of business process and productivity of enterprises. Even though many studies related interoperability of product data are going on in varies domain, the application to shipbuilding is deficient. This paper proposes a methodology for management and interconnection of BOM data based on ontology in heterogeneous PLM system of shipbuilding. Using Prot$\'{e}$g$\'{e}$-OWL, we built simple domain ontology of shipbuilding industry, and then, we integrated product information of shipbuilding BOM which is represented with different ontologies. We verified possibility of integration of shipbuilding BOM in heterogeneous PLM, using ontology.

Although assembly sequence planning is an essential task in assembly process planning, it is known as one of the most difficult and time consuming jobs because its complexity is increased geometrically when the number of parts in an assembly is increased. The purpose of this study is to develop a more efficient algorithm for generating assembly sequences automatically. By considering subassemblies, a new heuristic method generates a preferred parallel assembly sequence that can be used in robotic assembly systems. A parallel assembly sequence concept provides a new representation scheme for an assembly in which the assembly sequence precedence information is not required. After an user inputs both the directional mating relation information and the mating condition information, an assembly product is divided into subgroups if the product has cut-vertices. Then, a virtual disassembly process is executed to generate alternate parallel assembly sequences with intermediate assembly stability. Through searching parts relations in the virtual disassembly process, stable subassemblies are extracted from translation-free parts along disassembling directions and this extraction continues until no more subassemblies are existed. Also, the arithmetic mean parallelism formula as a preference criterion is adapted to select the best parallel assembly sequence among others. Finally a preferred parallel assembly sequence is converted to an assembly BOM structure. The results from this study can be utilized for developing CAAPP(Computer-Aided Assembly Process Planning) systems as an efficient assembly sequence planning algorithm.

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is an integrated business approach to manage the creation and distribution of product information throughout the product development process. From the product perspective, PLM encompasses a holistic approach to product development and product information management. It supports the integrated product information in conjunction with the efficient product structures and BOM (Bill Of Material), user interfaces, proper functions, design processes and enterprise integration. Therefore, PLM should not only satisfy required functions as an enterprise software but also offer a systematic method for the efficient application from the initial stage of its development. Recently, many shipyards have been considering the PLM as a strategic solution to get the efficient management of product information such as 3-D models, BOM, drawings, documents, and the other product data. Though many studies on PLM are performed, most of them are performed in a function-based approach adequate for mass productive assembly industries. It could not help having limitations on applying the proper PLM system to the shipbuilding business since the requirements of shipbuilding PLM are too diverse and huge to design the architecture. This study presents the PLM framework which effectively reflects the diverse requirements of shipbuilding PLM. In order to get the macroscopic architecture of shipbuilding PLM, authors suggest the four-tier architecture model which considers the various requirements collected from shipyards. Entities of ship design data are modeled BOM in terms of product structure and hierarchical class diagram. Applicable functions of shipbuilding PLM are also investigated by analysis of issues of ship design. Finally, by reflecting the design process of shipbuilding, To-Be ship design procedure cooperated with the suggested PLM framework has been summarized.
This study finds out and suggests success factors for the application of RIMS project through the case study of Seoul Metro and literature survey. The successful application of RIMS needs expert knowledge and concept of BOM, standardization of maintenance planning, check lists of heavy maintenance inspection, organization structure of rolling stock maintenance offices, material management system of warehousing and the process of parts repairing between offices, connection of material ordering system, problem solving of circular spare parts administration among inspection, maintenance, and material organizational units, systemic serial number management of parts with RFID, daily closing diary connected with work process chart, and sufficient period of RIMS's test run. RIMS contributes to real time management of rolling stock maintenance, transparency of management, reliability of train operation, customer satisfaction, and management innovation.

In highly complex EPC(engineering, procurement, construction)-based manufacturing processes such as shipbuilding and marine plants, it is essential to prepare a way to enable organic working at the site referring to each other's detailed working data for collaboration between partner companies. However, companies cannot share the progress of the sites including working information in real-time due to the use of SW unique to each company and the complex site management system. As a result, the construction process is delayed, and resources are used inefficiently. This study developed a neutral data generation algorithm that can apply the working information in various file formats to a collaborative manufacturing process. In addition, this study verified the accuracy of the algorithm by applying the developed algorithm to the manufacturing process of piping in shipbuilding and marine plants, developing the SW for visualization of working information using the generated neutral data, and comparing the coordinate, shape & dimension and the kind, number, and spec. of BOM. The result confirmed that the accuracy of the coordinate of the neutral data was 99%, and that of the shape & dimension of the neutral data and BOM Spec. was both 100%. It is thought that this study can be used for overcoming the restrictions in information sharing due to the development of informatization at companies and maximizing the share of working file information in a complex manufacturing process.
Today's manufacturers must respond quickly to customer needs. In particular, make-to-order companies are constantly striving to satisfy customer demand for products in order to secure more favorable conditions in the future through bidding. In this bidding process, quotations play a very important role in providing favorable conditions. And the most important content that companies strive to satisfy their customers is the product's performance. Therefore, a company can attract customers and secure economic profits through good quotations, but it can be said that the first priority is to match the performance of the products requested by the customers. That is, when a company creates a quotation, it is important to structure the quotation according to the performance of the product. Thus, this paper intends to present a quotation management framework and a quotation BOM information model for constructing quotations efficiently in make-to-order manufacturing. And, in order to prove the usefulness of the proposed quotation management framework, we presents an case of the construction of an quotation management system based on the JAVA platform. As a result, the integrated quotation management system based on the proposed quotation management framework and quotation BOM has been successfully operated in a make-to-order company that manufactures marine engines.

Nowadays, customer-oriented manufacturing enterprises such as airplane, ship, ship engine, etc are knowledge-intensive and higher added value industries. In these companies, to quickly respond customer's order, a quotation management is a very important task. But, this task is very complex, time-consuming, resource- consuming, and difficult process because it is related with many departments within a company. In this paper, for the effective and efficient quotation management, the concept of product specification framework is introduced because a quotation BOM (bills of material) can be created from product specification. Also, this paper presents the product specification framework based quotation management process and implements the quotation management system for the ship engine division of 'H' company, one of customer-oriented manufacturing enterprises. As a result, the proposed quotation management concept reduced a lead time of drawing out quotations from $3{\sim}10$ days to 1 hour. And, the constructed quotation management system achieved a rapidity, accuracy, quality, and workload reduction of the quotation management process.
