  • Due to integration of wind power, its unpredictable uncertainty can be a very lethal factor in generation dispatch problem. To handle such uncertainty of wind power output, a profit maximization problem is formulated and random wind speed is modeled by Weibull distribution in this paper. A case study is calculated through profit maximization approach with random wind speed. The effect of case study results is evaluated on how the uncertain wind power integration into the power system affects on the generation dispatch.

  • This paper presents the method for the placement and operation of dispersed generator systems(DGs) using fuzzy goal programming in distribution systems. For the placement and operation of DGs the problem is formulated with reduction of search spaces and flexibility of system situations. Especially, the original objective function and constraints are transformed by fuzzy goal programming to evaluate their imprecise nature for the criterion of power loss minimization, the number or total capacity of DGs and the bus voltage deviation, and then solve the problem using genetic algorithm.

  • In this research, we explore how to manage the transition of technology generations considering incremental innovation of the existing technology generation. Firms can slow down decaying of the existing technology by continuous incremental improvements rather than introducing a new generation technology at the first time if the former strategy is better. We characterize optimal technology transition problem by setting up an optimal control model. The model which is originally designed and solved by Thompson(1968) as a ‘Machine maintenance problem’ has been cited to build the main body of our model. With this analytical model, we derive optimal ‘incremental innovation’ strategy which is considering transition to the next technology. Our analysis indicates that there exists an unique ‘stopping incremental innovation timing’. Before the point of time, the decision maker should make his effort at a maximum level to enhance the current technology. However from the stopping timing to the final time horizon where the new technology is introduced, it is found that not to invest to the current technology any more is optimal.

  • A cause-effect graph considers only the desired external behavior of a system by identifying input-output parameter relationships in the specification. When testing a software system with cause-effect graphs, it is important to derive a moderate number of tests while avoiding loss in fault detection ability. Pairwise testing is known to be effective in determining errors while considering only a small portion of the input space. In this paper, we present a new testing technique that generates pairwise tests from a cause-effect graph. We use a Boolean Satisbiability (SAT) solver to generate pairwise tests from a cause-effect graph. The Alloy language is used for encoding the cause-effect graphs and its SAT solver is applied to generate the pairwise tests. Using a SAT solver allows us to effectively manage constraints over the input parameters and facilitates the generation of pairwise tests, even in the situations where other techniques fail to satisfy full pairwise coverage.

  • The advent of B-ISDN using ATM(asynchronous transfer mode) made possible a variety of new multimedia services, however it also created a problem of congestion control due to bursty nature of various traffic sources. To tackle this problem, UPC/NPC(user parameter control/network parameter control) have been actively studied and DRLB(dynamic rate leaky bucket) algorithm, in which the token generation rate is changed according to states of data source andbuffer occupancy, is a good example of the UPC/NPC. However, the DRLB algorithm has drawbacks of low efficiency and difficult real-time implementation for bursty traffic sources because the determination of token generation rate in the algorithm is based on the present state of network. In this paper, we propose a more plastic and effective congestion control algorithm by combining the DRLB algorithm and neural network based prediction to remedy the drawbacks of the DRLB algorithm, and verify the efficacy of the proposed method by computer simulations.

  • A competitive generating company (GENCO) could maximize its payoff by optimizing its generation assets. This paper considers the GENCO's arbitrage problem using price-based unit commitment (PBUC). The GENCO could consider arbitrage opportunities in purchases from qualifying facilities (QFs) as well as simultaneous trades with spots markets for energy, ancillary services, emission, and fuel. Given forecasted hourly market prices for each market, the GENCO's generating asset arbitrage problem is formulated as a mixed integer program (MIP) and solved by a branch-and-cut algorithm. A GENCO with 54 thermal and 12 combined-cycle units is considered for analyzing the proposed formulation. The proposed case studies illustrate the significance of simultaneous arbitrage by applying PBUC to multi-commodity markets.

  • Fingerprinting method is useful when estimating the location of a requestor based on LTE signals in an urban area. To do this, it is necessary to acquire location-based signals everywhere in the service area for fingerprint DB generation in advance. However, there may be signal uncollected area within a wide service area, which may cause a problem that the positioning accuracy of the requestor is low. In order to solve this problem, in this paper, signal propagation modeling is performed based on the obtained measurements, and based on this model, the signal information in the non-acquisition region is estimated. To this end, techniques for modeling signal propagation according to a method using measurements are proposed. The performance of the proposed techniques is verified based on the measurements obtained on a test bed selected as Seocho-gu, Seoul. As a result, it can be seen that signal propagation modeling performed based on multidivision segmented measurements has the most performance improvement.

  • A planner have to consider many uncertain factors in best generation mix problem. To solve those problems, fuzzy theory is applied in this paper. Using fuzzy measure and Sugeno's fuzzy integral, the planner can choose the best alternative. By applying the proposed algorithm to KEPCO data, the validity of the proposed method is verified.

  • A challenging activity in the manufacturing industry is to perform in real time the continuous monitoring of the process state, the situation assessment and identification of the problem on line and diagnosis of the cause and importance of the problem if he process does not work properly. This paper describes LAT(Ladder Analysis Tool) system for fault tree generation to improving the fault diagnosis of CNC machine tools. The system consists of 4 steps which can automatically ladder analysis from ladder diagram to two diagnosis function models. The two diagnostic models based on he ladder diagram is switching function model and step switching function model. This system tries to overcome diagnosis deficiencies present machine tool.

  • A running-profile generation method has been developed that efficiently generates the minimum-energy running profile, even in railway lines which have complicated speed limit sections. In the developed method, the problem of minimizing energy consumption is formulated as a resource allocation problem by dividing a running profile into several blocks, and is solved by the incremental method. A concept of Uni-Braking Block (UBB) which has only one brake section within it is introduces for the formulation. This paper proposes a specific method for running profile in the railway lines by using UBB. And proposes the algorithm to generate the running profile with minimum-energy.
