  • Bogie frame of the electric car is an important structural member for the support of vehicle leading. In general, more than 25 years' durability is necessary. A lot of study has been carried out for the prediction of the structural integrity of the bogie frame in experimental and theoretical domains. One of the useful methods is reliability-based approach. The objective of this paper is to estimate the structural integrity of the bogie frame of an electric car, which is under the running test. We used two approachs. In the first approach probabilistic distribution of S-N curve is used. In the second approach, limit state function is used.

Probabilistic Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Beam and Slab Deflections Using Monte Carlo Simulation

  • It is not easy to correctly predict deflections of reinforced concrete beams and one-way slabs due to the variability of parameters involved in the calculation of deflections. Monte Carlo simulation is used to assess the variability of deflections with known statistical data and probability distributions of variables. A deterministic deflection value is obtained using the layered beam model based on the finite element approach in which a finite element is divided into a number of layers over the depth. The model takes into account nonlinear effects such as cracking, creep and shrinkage. Statistical parameters were obtained from the literature. For the assessment of variability of deflections, 12 cases of one-way slabs and T-beams are designed on the basis of ultimate moment capacity. Several results of a probabilistic study are presented to indicate general trends indicated by results and demonstrate the effect of certain design parameters on the variability of deflections. From simulation results, the variability of deflections relies primarily on the ratio of applied moment to cracking moment and the corre-sponding reinforcement ratio.

  • The determination of the design flood based on probabilistic concepts is one of the important matters of the general field of hydrology. Until now, Most of any existing formulas to predict the flood flow were estimated by very different values with each other when we applied these formulas to the small basin, in extreme case, which were estimated over top be 400% of a difference because these have been developed by foreigners or derived from the big basin. The objective of this thesis is to examine closely the characteristics of frequency flood flow for reliable prediction of the flood flow through the probabilistic method in hydrology and to develop the ($Q_T=27.74T^{0.178}A^{0.594}$) applicable to the river of Kangwon province.

  • In this study, we nodestructive test based on ultrasonic test as inspection method and compared backpropagation neural network(BPNN) with probabilistic neural network(PNN) as pattern recognition algorithm of welding flasw. For this purpose, variables are applied the same to two algorithms. Where, feature variables are zooming flaw signals of reflected whole signals from welding flaws in time domain. Through this process, we confirmed advantages/disadvantages of two algorithms and identified application methods of two algorithms.

  • Electric-thermal-structural actuated compliant mechanisms are mechanisms onto which electric voltage drop is applied as input instead of force. This mechanism is based on thermal expansion of material while being heated. Compliant mechanisms are designed subjected to electric charge input using BESO(bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization) method. Reliability-based topology optimization (RBTO) is applied to the topology design of actuators. performance measure approach (PMA), which has probabilistic constraints that are formulated in terms of the reliability index, is adopted to evaluate the probabilistic constraints. In this study, BESO method is used to obtain optimal topology of compliant mechanisms from initial design domain. PMA approach is used to evaluate reliability index. The procedure has been tested in numerical applications and compared with the results obtained by other methods to validate these approaches.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the integrity for a reactor pressure vessel under the pressurized thermal shock by applying the probability fracture mechanics. A semi-elliptical axial crack is assumed to be in the beltline region of the reactor pressure vessel. The selected random variables are the neutron fluence on the vessel inside surface, the content of copper, nickel, and phosphorus in the reactor pressure vessel material, and initial RTNDT. The probabilistic integrity analysis was performed using the Monte Carlo simulation.

  • Stochastic convexity(concvity) of a stochastic process is a very useful concept for various stochastic optimization problems. In this study we first establish stochastic convexity of a certain class of Markov additive processes through the probabilistic construction based on the sample path approach. A Markov additive process is obtained by integrating a functional of the underlying Markov process with respect to time, and its stochastic convexity can be utilized to provide efficient methods for optimal design or for optimal operation schedule of a wide range of stochastic systems. We also clarify the conditions for stochatic monotonicity of the Markov process, which is required for stochatic convexity of the Markov additive process. This result shows that stochastic convexity can be used for the analysis of probabilistic models based on birth and death processes, which have very wide application area. Finally we demonstrate the validity and usefulness of the theoretical results by developing efficient methods for the optimal replacement scheduling based on the stochastic convexity property.

Ensemble of Classifiers Constructed on Class-Oriented Attribute Reduction

  • Many heuristic attribute reduction algorithms have been proposed to find a single reduct that functions as the entire set of original attributes without loss of classification capability; however, the proposed reducts are not always perfect for these multiclass datasets. In this study, based on a probabilistic rough set model, we propose the class-oriented attribute reduction (COAR) algorithm, which separately finds a reduct for each target class. Thus, there is a strong dependence between a reduct and its target class. Consequently, we propose a type of ensemble constructed on a group of classifiers based on class-oriented reducts with a customized weighted majority voting strategy. We evaluated the performance of our proposed algorithm based on five real multiclass datasets. Experimental results confirm the superiority of the proposed method in terms of four general evaluation metrics.

  • This paper presents a generalized multi-parameter distribution method for the convolution of linear combination of random variables to calculate system load flow in a conventional probabilistic approach and also presents a conceptual possibilistic approach using fuzzy set theory to manage uncertainties. The probability distribution function is transformed into an appropriate possibilistic representation under the compromise between the transformation consistency and the human updating experience. The IEEE 25-bus system is used to demonstrate the capability of the proposed algorithm.

A Probabilistic Approach to Quantifying Uncertainties in the In-vessel Steam Explosion During Severe Accidents at a Nuclear Power Plant

  • The uncertainty analysis for the in-vessel steam explosion during severe accidents at a nuclear power plant is performed using a probabilistic approach. This approach consists of four steps; 1) screening, 2) quantification of uncertainty 3) propagation of uncertainty, and 4) output analysis. And the specific methods which satisfy the sub-objectives of each step are prepared and presented. Compared with existing ones, the unique feature of this approach is the improved estimation of uncertainties through quantification, which ensures the defensibility of the resultant failure probability distributions. Using the approach, the containment failure probability due to in-vessel steam explosion is calculated. The results of analysis show that 1) pour diameter is the most dominant factor and slug condensed phase fraction is the least and 2) fraction of core molten is the second most dominant factor, which is identified as distinct feature of this study as compared with previous studies.
