  • Performing thermal transient test on electric initiator with SUS 304 bridgewire(diameter 2.3mil) and $Zr-KClO_4$ primary charge and analysing the test data using Fitted Wire Model shows that the thermal characteristic parameter related to primary charge is changed sharply around $300^{\circ}C$. It is determined that this phenomenon is due to endothermic reaction from phase transition of $KClO_4$, which is used as primary charge, and to physical change of thermal transient interface between bridgewire and primary charge. With this results, useful temperature range for the parameter obtained from thermal transient test can be suggested.

  • Thermal transient tests were performed on the electric initiator with STS 304 bridgewire(diameter 2.3 mil) and $Zr-KCIO_4$ primary charge. Analysing the test data using fitted Wire Model shows that the thermal characteristic parameter related to primary charge is changed sharply around $300^{\circ}C$. It is determined that this phenomenon is due to endothermic reaction from phase transition of $KCIO_4$, which is a component of the primary charge.

  • In this paper, a charge equalization converter with parallel-connected primary windings of transformers is proposed. The proposed work effectively balances the voltage among Lithium-Ion battery cells despite each battery cell has low voltage gap compared with its state of charge (SOC). The principle of the proposed work is that the equalizing energy from all battery strings moves to the lowest voltage battery through the isolated dc/dc converter controlled by the corresponding solid state relay switch. For this research a prototype of four Lithium-Ion battery cells is optimally designed and implemented, and experimental results show that the proposed method has excellent cell balancing performance.

  • As environmental pollution and fossil fuel energy problems from fuel vehicle have occurred, the interest of electric vehicle(EV) has increased. EV industry and energy industry have grown dynamically in these days. It is expected that the next generation of primary transportation will be EV, and it is necessary to prepare EV infra and efficient energy management such as EV communication protocol, EV charge station, and smart grid. Those EV and energy industry fields are now on growth. Also, the study and development of them are now in progress. In this paper, distributed charge signal processing software for smart slow and quick EV charge is proposed and designed for dealing with EV charge demand. The software consists of smart slow and quick EV charge schedule engine and EV charge power distribution core. The software is designed to support two charge station types. One is normal EV charge station and the other is bus garage EV charge station. Both two types collect the data from EV charge stations, and then analyze the collected data. The software suggests optimized EV charge schedule and deliveries EV charge power distribution information to power switchboard system, and the designed software is implemented on embedded system. It is expected that the software provides efficient EV charge schedule.

  • Arginine conjugated PAMAM dendrimer, PAMAM-R was modified with propylene oxide via hydroxylation of primary amines of arginine residues. About 49 amines were detected to be converted to amino alcohols by 1H NMR. The newly synthesized polymer, PAMAM-R-PO was able to completely retard pDNA from a charge ratio of 2. The average diameter of PAMAM-R-PO polyplex was found to be 242 nm at a charge ratio of 30. The Zeta-potential value of PAMAM-R-PO polyplex was able to reach 20-30 mV over a charge ratio of 10. PAMAM-R-PO indicated higher cell viability than unmodified PAMAM-R on HeLa and 293 cells because of its hydroxylated amines. Transfection experiments on 293 cells showed that the transfection efficiency of PAMAM-R-PO was found to be 1.5-1.9 times higher than that of PEI25kDa at a charge ratio of 30. The polymer eventually displayed about 2 times greater transfection efficiency than PAMAM-R at the same charge ratio in the absence of serum. Therefore, we concluded that the modification of primary amines of PAMAMR to amino alcohols gives positive effects such as reduced cytotoxicity and enhanced transfection efficiency on 293 cells for gene delivery potency of PAMAM-R.

  • Modularized charge equalization converter for HEV lithium-ion battery cells is proposed in this paper, in which intra-module and inter-module charge equalization can be achieved at the same time. For intra-module charge equalization, the conventional flyback DC/DC converters of low power and small size are employed, in which all of the primary sides are coupled in parallel for selective charge of the specific under charged cell within the module. For inter-module charge equalization, the flyback DC/DC converters are also added, in which all the secondary windings are electrically linked in parallel for automatic charge balancing among the modules. An engineering sample of forty cells hiring the proposed cell balancing scheme is implemented and its experimental result shows that the proposed modularized charge equalization circuit has good cell balancing performance.

  • This study introduces metal coating as an effective sample preparation method to remove charge-up caused by the shadow effect during field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) analysis of dynamic structured samples. During a FE-SEM analysis, charge-up occurs when the primary electrons (input electrons) that scan the specimens are not equal to the output electrons (secondary electrons, backscattered electrons, auger electrons, etc.) generated from the specimens. To remove charge-up, a metal layer of Pt, Au or Pd is applied on the surface of the sample. However, in some cases, charge-up still occurs due to the shadow effect. This study developed a coating method that effectively removes charge-up. By creating a converted sample stage capable of simultaneous tilt and rotation, the shadow effect was successfully removed, and image data without charge-up were obtained.

  • Gas avalanche microdetectors, such as micro-strip gas chamber (MSGC), micro-gap chamber (MGC), micro-dot chamber (MDOT), etc., are operated under high voltage to induce large electron avalanche signal around micro-size anodes. Therefore, the anodes are highly exposed to electrical damage, for example, sparking because of the interaction between high electric field strength and charge multiplication around the anodes. Gas electron multiplier (GEM) is a charge preamplifying device in which charge multiplication can be confined, so that it makes that the charge multiplication region can be separate from the readout micro-anodes in 9as avalanche microdetectors possible. Primary electron collection efficiency is an important measure for the GEM performance. We have defined that the primary electron collection efficiency is the fractional number of electron trajectories reaching to the collection plane from the drift plane through the GEM holes. The electron trajectories were estimated based on 3-dimensional (3D) finite element method (FEM). In this paper, we present the primary electron collection efficiency with respect to various GEM operation parameters. This simulation work will be very useful for the better design of the GEM.

  • A numerical technique for simulating the aggregation of charged particles was presented with a Brownian dynamic simulation in the free molecular regime. The Langevin equation was used for tracking each particle making up an aggregate. A periodic boundary condition was used for calculation of the aggregation process in each cell with 500 primary particles of 16 nm in diameter. We considered the thermal force and the electrostatic force for the calculation of the particle motion. The electrostatic force on a particle in the simulation cell was considered as a sum of electrostatic forces from other particles in the original cell and its replicate cells. We assumed that the electric charges accumulated on an aggregate were located on its center of mass, and aggregates were only charged with pre-charged primary particles. The morphological shape of aggregates was described in terms of the fractal dimension. In the simulation, the fractal dimension for the uncharged aggregate was D$\_$f/ = 1.761. The fractal dimension changed slightly for the various amounts of bipolar charge. However, in case of unipolar charge, the fractal dimension decreased from 1.641 to 1.537 with the increase of the average number of charges on the particles from 0.2 to 0.3 in initial states. In the bipolar charge state, the average sizes of aggregates were larger than that of the uncharged state in the early and middle stages of aggregation process, but were almost the same as the case of the uncharged state in the final stage. On the other hand, in the unipolar charge state, the average size of aggregates and the dispersion of particle volume decreased with the increasing of the charge quantities.
