Credit scoring is a technique used by financial institutions to assess the creditworthiness of potential borrowers. This involves evaluating a borrower's credit history to predict the likelihood of defaulting on a loan. This paper presents an ensemble of two Transformer based models within a framework for discriminating the default risk of loan applications in the field of credit scoring. The first model is FinBERT, a pretrained NLP model to analyze sentiment of financial text. The second model is FT-Transformer, a simple adaptation of the Transformer architecture for the tabular domain. Both models are trained on the same underlying data set, with the only difference being the representation of the data. This multi-modal approach allows us to leverage the unique capabilities of each model and potentially uncover insights that may not be apparent when using a single model alone. We compare our model with two famous ensemble-based models, Random Forest and Extreme Gradient Boosting.
In this paper we apply PMC (parallel model combination) to speech recognition system online. As a representative of model based noise compensation techniques, PMC compensates environmental mismatch by combining pretrained clean speech models and real-time estimated noise information. This is very effective approach for compensating extreme environmental mismatch but is inadequate to use in on-line system for heavy computational cost. To reduce the computational cost and to apply PMC online, we use a noise masking effect - the energy in a frequency band is dominated either by clean speech energy or by noise energy - in the process of model compensation. Experiments on artificially produced noisy speech data confirm that the proposed technique is fast and effective for the on-line model compensation.
Deep learning approach is emerging as a new way to improve the accuracy of tree species identification using bark image. However, the approach has not been studied enough because it is confronted with the problem of acquiring a large volume of bark image dataset. This study solved this problem by utilizing a pretrained off-the-shelf DCNN model. It compares the discrimination power of bark features extracted by each DCNN model. Then it extracts the features by using a selected DCNN model and feeds them to a multi-layer perceptron (MLP). We found out that the ResNet50 model is effective in extracting bark features and the MLP could be trained well with the features reduced by the principal component analysis. The proposed approach gives accuracy of 99.1% and 98.4% for BarkTex and Trunk12 datasets respectively.
Deep learning approach based on convolution neural network (CNN) has extensively studied in the field of computer vision. However, periocular feature extraction using CNN was not well studied because it is practically impossible to collect large volume of biometric data. This study uses the ResNet model which was trained with the ImageNet dataset. To overcome the problem of insufficient training data, we focused on the training of multi-layer perception (MLP) having simple structure rather than training the CNN having complex structure. It first extracts features using the pretrained ResNet model and reduces the feature dimension by principle component analysis (PCA), then trains a MLP classifier. Experimental results with the public periocular dataset UBIPr show that the proposed method is effective in person authentication using periocular region. Especially it has the advantage which can be directly applied for other biometric traits.

We propose an end-to-end neural coreference resolution for the Korean language that uses an attention mechanism to point to the same entity. Because Korean is a head-final language, we focused on a method that uses a pointer network based on the head. The key idea is to consider all nouns in the document as candidates based on the head-final characteristics of the Korean language and learn distributions over the referenced entity positions for each noun. Given the recent success of applications using bidirectional encoder representation from transformer (BERT) in natural language-processing tasks, we employed BERT in the proposed model to create word representations based on contextual information. The experimental results indicated that the proposed model achieved state-of-the-art performance in Korean language coreference resolution.
This study proposes a dependency grammar-based self-attention multilayered bidirectional long short-term memory (DG-M-Bi-LSTM) model for subject-predicate-object (SPO) tuple recognition from natural language (NL) sentences. To add recent knowledge to the knowledge base autonomously, it is essential to extract knowledge from numerous NL data. Therefore, this study proposes a high-accuracy SPO tuple recognition model that requires a small amount of learning data to extract knowledge from NL sentences. The accuracy of SPO tuple recognition using DG-M-Bi-LSTM is compared with that using NL-based self-attention multilayered bidirectional LSTM, DG-based bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT), and NL-based BERT to evaluate its effectiveness. The DG-M-Bi-LSTM model achieves the best results in terms of recognition accuracy for extracting SPO tuples from NL sentences even if it has fewer deep neural network (DNN) parameters than BERT. In particular, its accuracy is better than that of BERT when the learning data are limited. Additionally, its pretrained DNN parameters can be applied to other domains because it learns the structural relations in NL sentences.
Automatic speech recognition (ASR) has been revolutionized with deep learning-based approaches, among which self-supervised learning methods have proven to be particularly effective. In this study, we aim to enhance the performance of OpenAI's Whisper model, a multilingual ASR system on the Korean language. Whisper was pretrained on a large corpus (around 680,000 hours) of web speech data and has demonstrated strong recognition performance for major languages. However, it faces challenges in recognizing languages such as Korean, which is not major language while training. We address this issue by fine-tuning the Whisper model with an additional dataset comprising about 1,000 hours of Korean speech. We also compare its performance against a Transformer model that was trained from scratch using the same dataset. Our results indicate that fine-tuning the Whisper model significantly improved its Korean speech recognition capabilities in terms of character error rate (CER). Specifically, the performance improved with increasing model size. However, the Whisper model's performance on English deteriorated post fine-tuning, emphasizing the need for further research to develop robust multilingual models. Our study demonstrates the potential of utilizing a fine-tuned Whisper model for Korean ASR applications. Future work will focus on multilingual recognition and optimization for real-time inference.

In recent times, semantic image segmentation methods using deep learning models have been widely used for monitoring changes in surface attributes using remote sensing imagery. To enhance the performance of various UNet-based deep learning models, including the prominent UNet model, it is imperative to have a sufficiently large training dataset. However, enlarging the training dataset not only escalates the hardware requirements for processing but also significantly increases the time required for training. To address these issues, transfer learning is used as an effective approach, enabling performance improvement of models even in the absence of massive training datasets. In this paper we present three transfer learning models, UNet-ResNet50, UNet-VGG19, and CBAM-DRUNet-VGG19, which are combined with the representative pretrained models of VGG19 model and ResNet50 model. We applied these models to building extraction tasks and analyzed the accuracy improvements resulting from the application of transfer learning. Considering the substantial impact of learning rate on the performance of deep learning models, we also analyzed performance variations of each model based on different learning rate settings. We employed three datasets, namely Kompsat-3A dataset, WHU dataset, and INRIA dataset for evaluating the performance of building extraction results. The average accuracy improvements for the three dataset types, in comparison to the UNet model, were 5.1% for the UNet-ResNet50 model, while both UNet-VGG19 and CBAM-DRUNet-VGG19 models achieved a 7.2% improvement.
In this paper, we propose a classification model based on convolutional neural network(CNN) for predicting 2-year recurrence in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) patients using preoperative chest CT images. Based on the region of interest(ROI) defined as the tumor internal and external area, the input images consist of an intratumoral patch, a peritumoral patch and a peritumoral texture patch focusing on the texture information of the peritumoral patch. Each patch is trained through AlexNet pretrained on ImageNet to explore the usefulness and performance of various patches. Additionally, ensemble learning of network trained with each patch analyzes the performance of different patch combination. Compared with all results, the ensemble model with intratumoral and peritumoral patches achieved the best performance (ACC=98.28%, Sensitivity=100%, NPV=100%).

This paper introduces a real-time face swapping system that enables video influencers to swap their faces with arbitrary generated face images of their choice. The system is implemented as a Django-based server that uses a REST request to communicate with the generative model, specifically the pretrained stable diffusion model. Once generated, the generated image is displayed on the front page so that the influencer can decide whether to use the generated face or not, by clicking on the accept button on the front page. If they choose to use it, both their face and the generated face are sent to the landmark extraction module to extract the landmarks, which are then used to swap the faces. To minimize the fluctuation of landmarks over time that can cause instability or jitter in the output, a temporal filtering step is added. Furthermore, to increase the processing speed the system works on a reduced set of the extracted landmarks.
