  • This paper describes a simple and practical approach through the application of Linear Stochastic Estimation (LSE) to reconstruct wind-induced pressure time series from the covariance matrix for structural load analyses on a low building roof. The main application of this work would be the reduction of the data storage requirements for the NIST aerodynamic database. The approach is based on the assumption that a random pressure field can be estimated as a linear combination of some other known pressure time series by truncating nonlinear terms of a Taylor series expansion. Covariances between pressure time series to be simulated and reference time series are used to calculate the estimation coefficients. The performance using different LSE schemes with selected reference time series is demonstrated by the reconstruction of structural load time series in a corner bay for three typical wind directions. It is shown that LSE can simulate structural load time series accurately, given a handful of reference pressure taps (or even a single tap). The performance of LSE depends on the choice of the reference time series, which should be determined by considering the balance between the accuracy, data-storage requirements and the complexity of the approach. The approach should only be used for the determination of structural loads, since individual reconstructed pressure time series (for local load analyses) will have larger errors associated with them.

  • Objective: A meta-analysis was performed to determine effect of ginseng on blood pressure. Methods: The databases of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, RISS, DBpia, KISS, and Koreamed were searched for all published studies from inception to January 2016. The following terms were used: "ginseng", "hypertension", and "blood pressure". Using the Review Manager 5, mean differences (MDs) were pooled to measure the effect of ginseng on blood pressure compared to that of placebo. Results: Eleven randomized controlled trials were included. In this meta-analysis, ginseng treatment significantly lowered systolic blood pressure (SBP) in a dose-independent way (MD: -1.99, p = 0.04). In subgroup analysis, 8-12 week consumption of ginseng achieved significantly greater reduction in SBP (MD: -3.14, p = 0.03), while single administration of ginseng failed to show BP-lowering effect. When ingested over 8-12 weeks, ginseng significantly lowered diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (MD: -1.96, p = 0.03). No significant association was found between ginseng dose and the magnitude of BP-lowering effect. However, a significant positive relationship was observed between baseline SBP level and the magnitude of SBP reduction (r = 0.848, p = 0.033). Such a relationship was not seen in DBP. Conclusion: Consumption of ginseng for 8-12 weeks achieved significant reductions in SBP and DBP in a dose-independent way. There was a significant positive relationship between baseline SBP level and the magnitude of SBP reduction.

  • The development of energy saving system with pressure regulator has recently been received interests. Since the internal geometry in the pressure regulator is small and complex, the frictional loss in it is critical. In this study, the pressure loss with tip size, tip position, and mass flow was investigated using numerical approaches(CFD). The aimed reduction in pressure were achieved as the ratio of t/T was more than 0.8. In addition, there was no effect of the tip position.

  • This paper describes a wind tunnel test on a 1:25 scale model of TTU building with several adjustable openings in order to comprehensively study the characteristics of fluctuating internal pressures, especially the phenomenon of the increase in fluctuating internal pressures induced by tangential flow over building openings and the mechanism causing that. The effects of several factors, such as wind angle, turbulence intensity, opening location, opening size, opening shape and background porosity on the fluctuating internal pressures at oblique wind angles are also described. It has been found that there is a large increase in the fluctuating internal pressures at certain oblique wind angles (typically around 60° to 80°). These fluctuations are greater than those produced by the flow normal to the opening when the turbulence intensity is low. It is demonstrated that the internal pressure resonances induced by the external pressure fluctuations emanating from flapping shear layers on the sidewall downstream of the windward corner are responsible for the increase in the fluctuating internal pressures. Furthermore, the test results show that apart from the opening shape, all the other factors influence the fluctuating internal pressures and the internal pressure resonances at oblique wind angles to varying degrees.

  • Two-phase flow phenomena are observed in many industrial facilities and make much importance of optimum design for nuclear power plant and the liquid transportation system. The particular flow pattern depends on the conditions of pressure, flow velocity, and channel geometry. However, the research on drag reduction in two-phase flow is not intensively investigated. Therefore, experimental investigations have been carried out to analyze the drag reduction and void fraction by polymer addition in the two-phase flow system. We find that the polymer solution changes the characteristic of two-phase flow. The peak position of local void friction moves from tile wall of the pipe to the center of the pipe when polymer concentration increase. And then we predict that it is closely related with the frau reduction.

  • The Green Wall is the highest eco-system among a segmental retaining wall systems. Recently, the demand of high segmental retaining wall (SRW) is increased in domestic. The soil nailing system is applied in order to maintain the high SRW stability for steeper slope. However, the proper design approach that can consider the earth pressure reduction effects in soil nailing system has not been proposed. Hence, the purpose of this study was to provide the design and analysis technique of the segmental retaining wall reinforced by soil nailing. Also, in this study, various parametric studies using numerical method as shear strength reduction (SSR) technique were carried out. In the parametric study, the length ratio and the bond ratio of the soil nailing were changed to identify the earth pressure reduction effect of the retaining wall reinforced by soil nailing.

  • A lot of efforts have been focused on the optimization of PIT parameters for Bi-2223/Ag wire. In this paper, initial annealing of Bi-2223/Ag wire to transform Bi-2212 orthorhombic from Bi-2212 tetragonal Precursor was investigated. This initial annealing step at low oxygen partial pressure were to transform Bi-2212 orthorhombic structure and to reduce the formation of second phases at superconducting wire. However Bi-2223 Phases were appeared at higher annealing temperature. Critical currents(Je) of Bi-2223/Ag tapes were sintered at low oxygen Partial pressure were higher than that of the wires sintered at atmosphere condition. In order to investigate the effect of rolling reduction ratio, Bi-2223/Ag HTS tapes were rolled with different reduction ratio. There were no clear difference of Je and filaments shape with various rolling reduction ratio.

  • This research was intended to identify variables influencing on risk perception and risk reduction behavior in clothing purchase situations. Responses from 631 female adults living in Seoul area were collected and analyzed. Towner for social occasions or working in office was used as clothing stimulus. The analysis included three product variables(price, style, type of clothing), 4 personality variables(generalized self-confidence, specific self-confidence, generalized informativeness, fashion informativeness), 2 clothing attitude variables(clothing importance, clothing interest), 4 demographic variables(age, educational level, occupation, income), and 3 situational variables(purchase planning, time pressure, effects of shopping company). Multiple regression revealed the fact that each type of clothing risk and each type of risk reduction behavior was influenced by the set of different variables. Generalized self- confidence and age and time pressure had more effects on clothing risk perception, while clothing risk reduction behavior was more influenced by clothing risk type, clothing interest, price of clothing and fashion informativeness. Implications for marketing strategies planning were also provided.
