In order to investigate the spray characteristics according to diesel and bioethanol blending with biodiesel fuel, macroscopic spray characteristics were analyzed from the comparison of the effect of the injection pressure, ambient pressure and density on the spray tip penetration and spray cone angle. In addition, spray atomization characteristics were studied with local and overall Sauter mean diameter (SMD) and the contour map of SMD distribution at various injection conditions. It was revealed that the spray tip penetration of biodiesel fuels blended with diesel and ethanol was shorter than that of an undiluted biodiesel fuel at low injection pressure. However, the difference of spray tip penetration among three test fuels reduces at a high injection pressure. Increase of the ambient gas density leads to the decrease of the spray tip penetration of three test fuels. When diesel and ethanol fuels add to an undiluted biodiesel fuel, spray cone angle increases due to the decrease of the fuel density at the same ambient pressure condition. On the other hand, the droplet mean diameter decreases due to the reduction of the kinematic viscosity and surface tension.
The effects of change in injection pressure on spray structure in high temperature and pressure field have been investigated. The analysis of liquid and vapor phases of injected fuel is important for emissions control of diesel engines. Therefore, this work examines the evaporating spray structure using a constant volume vessel. The injection pressure is selected as the experimental parameter, is changed from 400 bar to 800 bar by using a common rail injection system. Also, we conducted simulation study by modified KIVA-II code. The results of simulation study are compared with experimental results. The images of liquid and vapor phase for free spray were simultaneously taken by exciplex fluorescence method. As experimental results, the vapor concentration of injected fuel is leaner due to the increase of atomization in the case of the high injection pressure than in that of the low injection pressure. The calculated results obtained by modified KIVA-II code show good agreements with experimental results.

Recently GDI(Gasoline Direct Injection) engine is spotlighted to achieve higher thermal efficiency under partial loads and better performance at full loads. To realize this system, it is essential to make both stratified combustion and homogeneous combustion. When compared to PFI(Port Fuel Injection) engine, GDI engine needs more complicated control and optimal design with injection system. In addition, spray pattern must be optimized according to injection timing because ambient pressure in combustion chamber is also varied. Thus spray structure should be analyzed in details to meet various conditions. In this experimental study, two types of visualization system were developed to simulate compression stroke and intake stroke, respectively. With an increase of the ambient pressure, the penetration length tends to decrease due to rising resistance caused by the drag force of the ambient air. Spray characteristics impinged on the piston has a significant effect on mixture stratification around the spark plug. These results provide the information on macroscopic spray structure and design factors far developing GDI injector.
The low-emission and high-performance diesel combustion is an important issue in the combustion research community, In order to understand the detailed diesel flame involving the complex physical processes, it is quite desirable to diesel spray dynamics, auto-ignition and spray flame propagation. Dynamics of fuel spray is a crucial element for air-fuel mixture formation, flame stabilization and pollutant formation, In the present study, the diesel RCM (Rapid Compression Machine) and the Electric Control injection system have been designed and developed to investigate the effects of injection pressure, injection timing, and intake air temperature on spray dynamics and diesel combustion processes, In terms of the macroscopic spray combustion characteristics, it is observed that the fuel jet atomization and the droplet breakup processes become much faster by increasing the injection pressure and the spray angle, With increasing the cylinder pressure, there is a tendency that the of spray pattern in the downstream region tends to be spherical due to the increase of air density and the corresponding drag force, Effects of intake temperature and injection pressure on auto-ignition is experimently analysed and discussed in detail.

This paper describes the macroscopic behavior and atomization characteristics of the high-pressure gasoline swirl injector in direct-injection gasoline engine. The global spray behavior of fuel injector was visualized by shadowgraph technique. The atomization characteristics of gasoline spray such as mean diameter and mean velocity of droplets were measured by the phase Doppler particle analyzer system. The macroscopic visualization and experiment of particle measurement on the fuel spray were investigated at 7 and 10 MPa of injection pressure under different spray cone angle. The results of this work show that the geometry of injector was more dominant over the macroscopic characteristics of spray than the fuel injection pressure and injection duration. As for the atomization characteristics, the increase of injection pressure resulted in the decrease of fuel droplet diameter and the atomization characteristics differed as to the spray cone angle. The most droplets had under $25{\mu}m$ diameter and for the large droplets(upper $40{\mu}m$) as the spray grew the atomization presses were very slow. Comparison results between the measured droplet distribution and the droplet distribution functions revealed that the measured droplet distribution is very closed to the Normal distribution function and Nukiyama-Tanasawa's function.

Almost all injection molds have multi-cavity runner for mass production, which are designed with geometrically balanced runner system in order to minimize filling imbalance between cavity to cavity during processing. However, even though geometrically balanced runner is used, filling imbalances have sometimes been observed. These filling imbalances have historically been considered as result of uneven mold temperature and mold deflection, but it actually results from non-symmetrically shear, pressure, temperature distribution within melt material as it flows through the runner system. Filling imbalance could be decreased by modifying processing conditions that are related to shear, pressure, temperature such as injection rate, mold temperature, injection pressure, melt temperature. In this study, a series of experiment was conducted using Taguchi method to determine which processing condition influence as the primary cause of filling imbalance in geometrically balanced runner system. As a result of experiments, this paper could present an optimal processing condition to minimize variable that brings about filling imbalance geometrically balanced runner system

This paper presents the combustion characteristics of hydrocarbon fuel from a conventional pressureswirl nozzle of a small-scale burner. The nozzle has orifice diameters of 0.256 mm and liquid flow rates raging from 50 to 64 mL/min were selected for the experiments. The furnace temperature distribution along the axial distance, the gas emission such as CO, $CO_2,\;NOx,\;S0_2,$ flue gas temperature, and combustion efficiency were studied. The local furnace and flue gas temperatures decreased with an increase in air velocity. At injection pressures of 1.1 and 1.3 MPa the maximum furnace temperatures occurred closer to the burner exit, at an axial distance of 242 mm from the diffuser tip. The CO and $CO_2$ concentrations decreased with an increase in air velocity, but they increased with an increase in injection pressure. The effect of air velocity on NOx was not clearly seen at low injection pressures, but at injection pressure of 1.3 MPa it decreased with an increase in air velocity. The effect of air velocity $SO_2$ concentration level is not well understood. The combustion efficiency decreased with an increase in air velocity but it increased with an increase in injection pressure. It is recommended that injection pressure less than 0.9 MPa with air velocity not above 8.0 m/s would be suitable for this burner.

In this work, the evaluation of swirl nozzle injector performance was conducted by investigating effective area ($A_{eff}$), injection mass ($m_{inj}$), injection rate ($Q_{inj}$), and injection delay ($t_{delay}$) under various test conditions. To achieve these, fuel injection analysis system which was composed of fuel supply system, injection system, and control system was installed. At the same time, the swirl nozzle that had 12 orifice hole with $120^{\circ}$ injection angle was used in this work. It was revealed that the difference of injection mass ($m_{inj}$) between base and swirl nozzle injector increased as the injection pressure ($P_{inj}$) and energizing duration ($t_{eng}$) decreased under the same test conditions. The maximum injection rate ($Q_{inj}$) of swirl nozzle injector was higher than base nozzle injector about 2~5%. The injection performance of swirl nozzle was better than base nozzle at low injection pressure ($P_{inj}$) and short energizing duration ($t_{eng}$) conditions.
This study is object to structural analysis of high-pressure injection nozzle. The finite element model was developed to compute the stress, strain for high-pressure injection nozzle. For structural analysis using result from FEM Code.
