Numerical investigation has been conducted to figure out flow behavior and pressure drop characteristics of spirally corrugated steel pipe which is widely used in civil, industrial and agricultural field owing to many advantages such as good corrosion resistance and durability, strength, easy and quick installation. Also the poly-ethylene coating spirally corrugated steel pipe has the long life under condition of sea water immerged. In the present study, flow behavior in the spirally corrugated pipe and influence of P/d/sub h/(ratio of wave pitch to hydraulic diameter) to pressure drop are investigated by CFD with various Reynolds number. And also friction factor is estimated by pressure drop obtained by flow analysis. According to computation results, the flow runs spirally up and down along the spiral corrugation in the vicinity of wall, but the effect of spiral corrugation disappears in core region of pipe. As P/d/sub h/ becomes small, more pressure drop occurs in spirally corrugated Pipe. Besides, friction factor augmentation becomes much larger as Re increases. In case of p/d/sub h/=0.38, Pressure drop and friction factor of spirally corrugated pipe are about four times larger than smooth pipe at Re: 1.46×10/sup 6/.
This paper presents the method of ROL(Rate Of Loading) improvement for the Motor Operated Gate Valve operated in high differential pressure condition. ROL is one of the most important evaluation parameters for the valve ability. It is close to correlation in stem factor (SF) and appears different value by the differential pressure of fluid. ROL and SF are analyzed by the static test and dynamic test. The obtained result show that the modification of stem factor is very important factor for the ROL improvement. In order to obtain the same value of SF between static and dynamic test, stem and stem nut should be combined appropriately by the repetition test.
The results of stand and field testing of a combustion chamber for a heavy-duty 150 MW gas turbine are discussed. The model represented one of 14 identical segments of a tubular multican combustor constructed in the scale 1:1. The model experiments were executed at a pressure smaller than in the real gas turbine. The combustion efficiency, pressure loss factor, pattern factor, liner wall temperature, flame radiation, fluctuating pressure, and NOx emission were measured at partial and full load for both model and on-site testing. The comparison of these items of information, received on similar modes in the stand and field tests, has allowed the development of a method of calculation and the improvement of gas turbine combustors.
These days, the super high-rise buildings construction plans are increased in Korea. But the stack effect in the super high-rise building interrupts the smoke control system's operation because of pressure difference, so it is more dangerous than the general building when firing. Therefore it needs to study about the pressure difference in the super high-rise buildings. We research the smoke control influence factor in the super high-rise building. Reflecting the influence factor, the simulation is practiced the case by case.
The results of stand and field testing of a combustion chamber for a heavy-duty 150 MW gas turbine are discussed. The model represented one of 14 identical segments of a tubular multican combustor constructed 1:1 scale. The model experiments were executed at a lower pressure than that in a real gas turbine. Combustion efficiency, pressure loss factor, pattern factor, liner wall temperature, flame radiation, fluctuating pressure and NOx emission were measured at partial and full loads for both model and on-site testing. The comparison of these items in the stand and field test results led to has the development of a method of calculation and the improvement of gas turbine combustors.

Friction factor and two-phase flow frictional multiplier for a CANFLEX bundle are newly developed and presented in this paper. CANFLEX as a 43-element fuel bundle has been developed jointly by AECL/KAERI to provide greater operational flexibility for CANDU reactor operators and designers. Friction factor and two-phase flow frictional multiplier have been developed by using the experimental data of pressure drops obtained from two series of Freon-l34a (R-134a) CHF tests with a string of simulated CANFLEX bundles in a single phase and a two-phase flow conditions. The friction factor for a CANFLRX bundle is found to be about 20 % higher than that of Blasius for a smooth circular pipe. The pressure drop predicted by using the new correlations of friction factor and two-phase frictional multiplier are well agreed with the experimental pressure drop data of CANFLEX bundle within ${\pm}\;5\;%$ error.
The mechanism of power transmission from motor torque to stem thrust and the operation characteristic of each stroke position are analyzed using the diagnostic signal, and effects of differential pressure on the performance of motor operated flexible wedge gate valve are investigated. Test facility consists of 76 mm motor operated valve(flexible wedge type), pump and pipe system. Static and dynamic test are performed separately, and two differential pressure conditions are applied in the dynamic test. To evaluate the performance of valve, test signals for the torque, thrust, current, voltage and stroke length are acquired by using UDS which is diagnosis device for motor operated valve, and each diagnostic signal is analyzed and compared. The characteristic of valve performance factors such as stem factor, rate of loading, valve factor, are evaluated, and these factors are found to be severely influenced by the fluid differential pressure.
Stem friction coefficient and valve factor are very important parameters for the evaluation of valve performance. In this study, the characteristics of stem friction coefficient and valve factor are analyzed, and thor bounding value is determined. The hydraulic testing is performed for many flexible wedge gate valves in the plant and statistical method is applied to the determination of bounding value. According to the results of this study, stem friction coefficient does not change much with differential pressure, and the bounding value of closing stroke is higher than that of opening stroke. The valve factor of valves with high differential pressure is higher than that of valves with medium differential pressure. It means valve factor is more sensitive to the differential pressure than the stem friction coefficient. Valve factor of the closing stroke is higher than that of opening stroke due to piston effect.
For the evaluation of operability of MOV(Motor Operated Valve), the precision prediction of thrust/torque acting on the valve is important. In this paper, the analytical prediction method of thrust/torque was proposed. The design basis stem thrust calculation typically considers the followings: Packing thrust, Stem rejection load, design basis differential pressure load. In general, test results show that temperature, pressure, fluid type, and differential pressure, independently and combination, all have an effect on the friction factor. The prediction results of thrust/torque are well agrement with dynamic test results.
Plate and shell heat exchanger(P&SHE) has been applied to the refrigeration and air conditioning systems as evaporators or condensers fur their high efficiency and compactness. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of pressure drop in plate and shell heat exchanger. An experiment for single phase (low pressure drop in plate and shell heat exchanger was performed. Also numerical work was conducted using the FLUENT code for $ {\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model. The dependence of friction factor on geometrical Parameters was numerically investigated. The study examines the internal flow and the pressure distribution in the channel of plate and shell heat exchanger. The results of CFD analysis compared with experimental data, and the difference of frictor factor in plate side and shell side are 10% and 12%, respectively. Therefore, the CFD analysis model is effectively predict the performance of plate and shell heat exchanger.
