Energy Modeling of a Supertall Building Using Simulated 600 m Weather File Data

  • Assessing the energy performance of supertall buildings often does not consider variations in energy consumption due to the change of environmental conditions such as temperature, pressure, and wind speed associated with differing elevations. Some modelers account for these changing conditions by using a conventional temperature lapse rate, but not many studies confirm to the appropriateness of applying it to tall buildings. This paper presents and discusses simulated annual energy consumption results from a 600 m tall skyscraper floor plate located in Dubai, UAE, assessed using ground level weather data, a conventional temperature lapse rate of $6.5^{\circ}C/km$, and more accurate simulated 600 m weather data. A typical office floorplate, with ASHRAE 90.1-2010 standards and systems applied, was evaluated using the EnergyPlus engine through the OpenStudio graphical user interface. The results presented in this paper indicate that by using ground level weather data, energy consumption at the top of the building can be overestimated by upwards of 4%. Furthermore, by only using a lapse rate, heating energy is overestimated by up to 96% due to local weather phenomenon such as temperature inversion, which can only be conveyed using simulated weather data. In addition, sizing and energy consumption of fans, which are dependent both on wind and atmospheric pressure, are not accurately captured using a temperature lapse rate. These results show that that it is important, with the ever increasing construction of supertall buildings, to be able to account for variations in climatic conditions along the height of the building. Adequately modeling these conditions using simulated weather data will help designers and engineers correctly size mechanical systems, potentially decreasing overall building energy consumption, and ensuring that these systems are able to provide the necessary indoor conditions to maintain occupant comfort levels.

직업 경력단절 기혼 여성에 대한 질적 연구: 30대 여성의 경력단절 이후의 삶을 중심으로 (A Qualitative Study on the Career-interrupted Lives of Career-Interrupted Women in their thirties)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the career-interrupted lives of highly educated career-interrupted women. The participants were 11 women in their thirties who had graduated from university graduated and had a child. We collected the qualitative data using a focused group interview. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, in personal histories of the career-interrupted women, there were marriages and births, difficulties with child care, priority placed on the family, pressure to retire, and an absence of a layoff system related to births and child care. Second, with regard to their interrupted lives, while there was comfort and an absence of work-stress, there was child care stress, financial stress, anxiety due to career uncertainty, a loss of the social self, depression, emptiness, low self-esteem, dependence on husbands, regret, conflict in career choices, and envy of childcare support. Third, their reasons for seeking reemployment included the financial benefits, increased independence, self-realization in their job, hope for a stable job, self-management, and hope for a social network.

초음파법에 의한 피하지방두께의 측정과 신체조성 (Body composition and measurement of subcutaneous fat thickness by ultrasonic method)

  • The purpose of this study was to obtain the basic data for a design for comfort wear. The subjects of this study were 197 women's university stu- dents. The characteristics of their body types and the thickness of subcuta- neous fat at eight body sites were measured. The thickness of subcutaneous fat was measured by both Ultrasonics and with a Skinfold Caliper. The cor- relation between their values and the thickness of subcutaneous fat were compared. The relationship between Rohrer Index and the subject's self- conception of their body was also compared. The results were as follows: 1. The measurement of thickness of subcutaneous fat at triceps and scapula was a little lower, in using Skinfold Caliper method, than Ultrasonics method because of the pressure of the caliper. 2. Correlation between percentage of fat in body and body characteristics was high in order of chest girth > weight > abdomen girth. 3. The thickness of subcutaneous 8 body these sites was high in order of thigh > triceps > scapula > abdomen > suprailiac > chest > calf > forearm. Percentage of body fat has a positive correlation with both average thickness of subcutaneous fat and thickness of subcutaneous fat at triceps. 4. Rohrer Index shows a positive correlation between average thickness of subcutaneous fat and percentage of body fat. 5. About half of subjects of this study thought that they were obese although the data proved otherwise.

전동차용 Blow-Down HVAC 덕트 시스템의 유동 균일도 향상을 위한 수치적 연구 (Numerical Study to Improve the Flow Uniformity of Blow-Down HVAC Duct System for a Train)

  • A HVAC(Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) is adapted to increase the comfort of the cabin environment for train. The train HVAC duct system has very long duct and many outlets due to the shape of a train set. the duct cross section shape is limited by a roof structure and equipments. Therefore, the pressure distribution and flow uniformity is an important performance indicator for the duct system. In this study, the existing blow down type HVAC duct system for a train was supplemented to improve the flow uniformity by applying a design method combining design of experiment (DOE) with numerical analysis. The design variables and the test sets were selected and the performance for each test set was evaluated using CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics). The influence of each design variable on the system performance was analysed based on the results of the performance evaluation on the test sets. Furthermore, the optimized model, whose the flow uniformity was improved was produced using the direct optimization(gradient-based method). Finally, the performance of the optimized model was evaluated using numerical analysis, and it was confirmed that its flow uniformity has indeed improved.

움직임 보조를 위한 무릎 보호대 디자인 제안: 선호도 및 가상 착용 이미지를 이용한 만족도 평가를 중심으로 (Suggestions of Movement-Assistive Knee Pad Designs: Focusing on Preference and Satisfaction Evaluations Using Virtual Avatars' Wearing)

  • This study evaluated designs via the consumers' function and design preferences survey for using product design images, virtual avatar wearing images and product explanations that identified consumers' function and design preferences for knee protection pads as well as to develop movement assistive knee pad designs. We developed Design A for men and Design B for women. For Design A, the front of the knee supports muscles and alleviates pain with a hole. Mesh material with good ventilation was applied to enhance wearing comfort. The color was achromatic for a modern style, and the hook fastener and loops enabled easy wear and removal of the pad while controlling size and pressure strength. For Design B, taping details seamlessly support muscles in the knee area with fabrics less than 0.1 cm thick and with long sleeves in the diverse sizes. The design's satisfaction assessment showed that potential consumers were satisfied with Design A and Design B for overall design and functional features. Over 77% wanted to use/wear and purchase designs; in addition, over 78% expected it would help with walking and relieve knee pain. The results can be helpful for designers when deciding designs for manufacturing and commercializing kneepad products.

다문화가정 남편의 부부갈등에 대한 질적연구 - 결정적 사건, 전개 및 대처를 중심으로 - (A Qualitative Study on Husbands' Experience in Marital Conflict in Multicultural Families - Focused on Critical Incident, Development and Coping -)

  • This study explored at marital conflict in multicultural families, a type of families formed through international marriages, from husbands perspectives. For the purpose of this study, in-depth interviews were used with husbands in multicultural families to ask about marital conflict, and then, conducted a qualitative case analysis. In summary, results of this study are as follows; First, among the decisive events that husbands in multicultural families often experienced in marital conflict with their wives were disrespect toward husbands and parents-in-law, husbands with a low level of trust, feelings of pressure due to financial support for wives' families and children and lack of practical sense about marriage. Second, development of marital conflict that husbands often experienced included aggravated cultural conflict between a couple and between members of the family, difficulty in managing blame and anger, signs of separation or divorce and wives leaving home and limitations in conversation and communication. Third, as to how husbands tried to deal with marital conflict, they tried to be patient and comfort wives, engage in economic activities together, find something that they could focus on, turn to religion or gatherings, use service from government organizations, have trust and develop rules and limit the range of their wives activities.

마찰용접을 이용한 고강도 쇼크업소버 베이스 어셈블리의 제조 기술 개발 (Development of a High Strength Manufacturing Technology for the Shock Absorber Base Assembly Using Friction Welding)

  • The shock absorber base assembly is one of the parts in the shock absorber equipment that controls the vehicle movement. It absorbs the shock and vibration to guarantee riding stability and comfort. It demands strength, reliability and strict airtightness of the welded section because the shock absorber base assembly is a container which resists pressure and needs durability by being filled with gas and oil. However, the current engineering needs a lot of production time, has a high cost and shows a low production rate. These problem due to the eight production processes, four of which are spot welding, reinforcement welding like metal active welding (MAG), prior process of the base assembly cap and tube for precision and pressing. We will analyze the manufacturing processes of the base assembly and suggest an improved manufacturing method that uses frictional welding. The results will show that the new method of the frictional welding is better than the previous welding technique. Through the use of this concept of frictional welding, the welding conjunction will be strengthened, measurements will be more precise, and the cost and the number of processes will be reduced.

상반신에서의 의복기후분포 (The Distribution of Clothing Microclimate on the Upper Body)

  • The factors affecting clothing comfort are temperature, humidity, and air velocity of clothing microclimate which is the temperature and the humidity between the skin surface and the innermost garment, clothing pressure and clothing texture to the skin. This study was designed to estimate the distribution of clothing microclimate on the upper body. All the data of this study were collected from volunteered male subjects in the controlled climate chamber laboratory in which the temperature was $25\pm1^{\circ}C$, the relative humidity $50\pm5%$, and the air velocity 30cm/sec. All subjects should wear long-sleeved inner wear and pants woven in 100% cotton. Clothing microclimate temperature at 16 sites on the chest and 16 sites on the back was measured. The results were as follows: the distribution of the clothing microclimate temperature on the upper body was $30.6\sim34.7^{\circ}C$ on the breast and $31.5\sim35.4^{\circ}C$ on the back. While a mean temperature on the chest was 33.3$^{\circ}C$, it was 33.1$^{\circ}C$ on the back.

  • The vehicle aerodynamic crosswind characteristics are mainly governed by the coefficient of side force and yawing moment. These performances affect not only the driving comfort which can be felt by driver but also the safety due to the instability of vehicle. The aims of this investigation are to improve the aerodynamic crosswind performance of sedan vehicle under the crosswind conditions. In order to improve the crosswind stability, numerical analysis has been performed by modifying the rear body shape of vehicle. As the results, we observed about 20% reduction of yawing moment coefficient relative to the base vehicle.

유방 확대 수술 환자의 브래지어 착용실태 및 만족도 조사 (A Study on the Brassiere Wearing Condition and Satisfaction of Augmentation Mammaplasty Patients)

  • The wearing of the correction bra is very important to stabilize the shape of an implant after breast enlargement surgery; however, the verification of the wearing effect is insufficient. This study surveyed women who experienced breast augmentation surgery, to investigate wearing condition and satisfaction with bras worn immediately after surgery and during the recovery period as well as to collect basic data for the development of an improved patient bra. The study results are as follows. More than half of the respondents stated that they wear a cupless brassiere. As a result of the satisfaction by brassiere types, the cupless bra showed the highest satisfaction. The most important factor in choosing a patient's bra after breast augmentation surgery was the "degree of breast compression". Through the application of the results of this study, the necessity of development of the brassiere for breast enlargement patients with improved function and comfort was understood. It is therefore necessary to improve the function of holding the shape of the breast and applying appropriate pressure as well as designing the ventilated material without skin irritation that is superior to the existing brassieres.
