  • This study examined how the three major newspapers covered the press reform movement in Korea. Despite that the NGOs and Korean government keep trying to reform the market and structure of the newspapers, the targeted newspapers argue that they are unjustly accused of the dominance of the press market made by the readers' choice. Using frame analysis and discourse analysis, this study analyzed the news coverage on the press reform for 6 months and revealed that these major newspapers presumed to be targeted were totally challenging against the press reform by means of flaming of news and using news discourse. The ways of challenge were, firstly they appealed to the readers that the press reform is the press suppress so that they have to fight against this unacceptable pressure. And secondly, they report the news selectively for their own interests by elaborating, magnifying, or reducing the facts. Thirdly, they attack the government policies and major figures leading the press reform by letting the outside columnists favorable to their own standing point. And finally, they conduct the poll on and off and report what they want according to their self interests.

  • Roll bending process has been used for manufacturing the pipes. However, it is not suitable process for the thick pipes. Knife press forming is acceptable process for the thick pipes. Recently, the knife press forming process using brake bending press have been performed. In this study, the estimation on formability of knife press forming process for the thick pipes is carried out. From the results, it is ensured that the thick pipes could be obtained by the knife press forming process.

  • Optimization of structure of a high-precision stamping press structure is performed by combination of Taguchi Method and finite element analysis. Too much difference in the stiffness between hydrostatic bearing linear guide and press structure is observed. Efforts are made to level up the stiffness of press structure to the level of hydrostatic bearing's. Some important design parameters are identified and discussed.

  • This paper presents the development of the FCF method for the manufacturing of final products using numbers related to the minimum amount of work. The utilized product is a drum clutch, which is part of the transmission of an automobile. A double acting press is secured first and a prediction of the forming load on the practical material is made through an experiment with a plasticine model. Also, a finite element simulation using product shape and properties is performed, as well as a press experiment. A double acting press is manufactured that is suitable for a double acting experiment with a conventional hydraulic press(200 tons). A peripheral device for the press is additionally designed for experimental purposes. And, the press has as its essential points the drive speed, stroke control, etc., all of which influence the forming and is modified. Especially, a laser system is used for velocity measurement of two punches. The forming load of a practical material is predicted in order to derive a forming load formula for cold conditions on the basis of approximate similarity theory. Finite element analysis of the relative velocity ratio(RVR), etc., for most suitable flow defect(unfilling, etc.) prevention is achieved as well. The results are verified through a press experiment.

  • Hot press forming can produce high-strength components by rapidly cooling between closed punch and die after hot forming using quenchable boron steel austenized in a furnace. In the hot press forming process, the cooling rate is influenced by the size, position and arrangement of the cooling channel and the file condition of cooling water in the die. Also, mechanical properties of the final components and operation time are related to cooling rate. Therefore, the design of optimized cooling channel is one of the most important works. In this paper, the effect of position and size of the cooling channel on the cooling rate was investigated by using design of experiment and FE analysis in hot press bending process. Therefore the optimum cooling channel ratio was presented in the HPB.

  • The hot press farming process, which is the press hardening of steel parts using cold dies, can utilize both ease of shaping and high strength due to the hardening effect of rapid quenching during the pressing. In this study, a thermo-elastoplastic analysis of the hot press forming process using the finite element method was performed in order to investigate the deformation behavior and temperature history during the process and the mechanical properties of the pressed parts.

  • Magnesium alloys have been widely used for many structural components of automobiles and aircraft because of high specific strength and good castability in spite of hexgonal closed-packed crystal structure of pure magnesium. In this paper, FE analysis was executed about the formability of AZ3l magnesium alloy on press forging process. For this, the variation of sheet temperature, distribution of punch force and the effect of heat transfer and friction between punch and sheet on the forming characteristics during press forging of AZ31 has been analyzed by finite element analysis. In order to obtain temperature dependence of material characteristics, uniaxial tension tests at elevated temperature were done under temperature of $100^{\circ}C\~ 500^{\circ}C$.

  • Change in labor time is affecting occupational safety and health. Recently reduction in labor time brought innovational operation method, investment in plant and equipment, and flexible labor time in some companies, thereby affecting working conditions for labourers. However, working conditions for some vulnerable social groups have deteriorated. As a result, they are becoming more exposed to risk factors such as injury and emotional stress. In this study we use 2014 KWCS data in order to find the social and demographic characteristics in Korean working conditions. To this end, we use exploratory data analysis approach to find the relationship between some of the important variables in the KWCS data. We also use Press-State-Response model to find which group of people are vulnerable to Press and State. We find that women, people over age 50 and business owners are more vulnerable to Press and State than men, people below age 50 and wage workers.

  • There is a more urgent call for educational methods of machine learning in medical education, and therefore, new approaches of teaching and researching machine learning in medicine are needed. This paper presents a case using machine learning through text analysis. Topic modeling of news articles with the keyword 'asbestos' were examined. Two hypotheses were tested using this method, and the process of machine learning of texts is illustrated through this example. Using an automated text analysis method, all the news articles published from January 1, 1990 to November 15, 2016 in South Korea which included 'asbestos' in the title and the body were collected by web scraping. Differences in topics were analyzed by structured topic modelling (STM) and compared by press companies and periods. More articles were found in liberal media outlets. Differences were found in the number and types of topics in the articles according to the partisanship and period. STM showed that the conservative press views asbestos as a personal problem, while the progressive press views asbestos as a social problem. A divergence in the perspective for emphasizing the issues of asbestos between the conservative press and progressive press was also found. Social perspective influences the main topics of news stories. Thus, the patients' uneasiness and pain are not presented by both sources of media. In addition, topics differ between news media sources based on partisanship, and therefore cause divergence in readers' framing. The method of text analysis and its strengths and weaknesses are explained, and an application for the teaching and researching of machine learning in medical education using the methodology of text analysis is considered. An educational method of machine learning in medical education is urgent for future generations.

  • This paper provides a loss analysis and comparison of high power semiconductor devices in 5MW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) Medium Voltage (MV) Wind Turbine Systems (WTSs). High power semiconductor devices of the press-pack type IGCT, module type IGBT, press-pack type IGBT, and press-pack type IEGT of both 4.5kV and 6.5kV are considered in this paper. Benchmarking is performed based on the back-to-back type 3-level Neutral Point Clamped Voltage Source Converters (3L-NPC VSCs) supplied from a grid voltage of 4160V. The feasible number of semiconductor devices in parallel is designed through a loss analysis considering both the conduction and switching losses under the operating conditions of 5MW PMSG wind turbines, particularly for application in offshore wind farms. This paper investigates the loss analysis and thermal performance of 5MW 3L-NPC wind power inverters under the operating conditions of various power factors. The loss analysis and thermal analysis are confirmed through PLECS Blockset simulations with Matlab Simulink. The comparison results show that the press-pack type IGCT has the highest efficiency including the snubber loss factor.
