업셋 용접 테일러드 블랭크의 용접성 및 성형성 평가 (Evaluation of Weldability and Formability of Tailor Welded Blank by Using Upset Weld)

  • The press formability analysis of welding parts was studied in the current work by the tailor welded blank. As the body panel is used in the press forming of welding parts by a weld method of the tailor welded blank, the following conditions are demanded: 1) The strength of welding parts must be the higher than base metals. 2) After the welding, severe welding deformatins must be avoided. 3) The press formability of welding parts is similar to that of many base metals. 4) The productibility of a welding has to be higher. There are many welding methods satisfying these conditions, but the purpose of this study is to inbestigate the upset weldability and formability of the material (SPCC). SPCC steel sheet showed good weldability and formability under some welding conditions. The experimental results were discussed by the evaluation of the results obtained from tensile tests, hardness tests, micro-structures and Erichsen cup test was a little lower than that of parent material.

  • The press formability analysis of welding parts was studied in the current work by the tailor welded blank. The press formability was tested by means of the flash weldability and the formability for two kinds of materials (SPCC & S35C). The results indicate that SPCC & S35C steel sheets showed good weldability and formability after an optimum welding conditions. The independent operation variables were characterized by strength of welding parts, deformation after the welding, press formability of welding parts and productibility of welding. The weldability and the quality of welding parts of the flashed SPCC steel sheet was superior to those of the S35C steel sheet, since a higher carbon content in steel sheet led to a higher hardness. The experimental results were discussed by the evaluation of the results obtained from tensile test, hardness test, micro-structure and V bending test.

  • In the sheet metal forming using a high speed press machine, driving device, such as crank, link, and knuckle mechanism, has to be designed in consideration of impact at a moment when press die contact with material, because the impact affects a dimensional accuracy of products and a life span of press die. In this study, dynamic analysis was performed using numerical simulation in order to verify the impact reduction effect for proposed double knuckle mechanism by estimating rolling and pitching moment of slide.

  • Presses are very widely used in industrial and commercial companies and are often the source of serious accidents occurring during operation. In Korea, the press holds the first place in the industrial hazard machines for frequency of accidents. Most of the press accidents are due to the human error. Continuous recordings of eye and hand movements that included operating errors of five experienced subjects were made during the press operation. The results showed that significant differences were observed on eye fixation time, hand fixation time, and lead departure time between the operations that has errors and no errors. The result could be used as basic data to establish a guideline for preventing the accidents.

  • Press-fit pin connection is the solderless interference-fit between pins and plated through holes(PTH) in the printed curcuit board(PCB). Because of not only its simple assembly and absence of problems associated with soldering, but also its good mechanical and electrical characteristics, the press-fit pin connection technology has quickly gained wide acceptance in the telecommunications and computer industries. In this paper, the contact stress characteristics of the domestic CPF pin when inserted into the friction coefficients were compared and the stress variations of the compliant part of the pin, which have an influence on the performance, were displayed with the time and arc length after complete connected. It is supposed that the results will provide useful data to improve the performance of the pin-PCB interconnection mechanism.

압입축에 발생하는 프레팅 마모가 피로수명에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Fretting Wear on Fatigue Life of Press-fitted Shaft)

  • The objective of the present paper is to evaluate the effect of the evolution of contact surface profile caused by fretting wear on fatigue life of press-fitted shaft by means of an analytical method based on experimental data. A finite element analysis was performed to analyze the stress states of press-fitted shaft, considering the worn contact profiles of shaft. The fatigue lives of the press-fitted shaft reflecting the evolution of contact stress induced by fretting wear were evaluated by stress-life approach using fatigue notch factor. It is found that the stress concentration of contact edge in press-fitted shaft decreases rapidly at the initial stage of total fatigue life, and its location shifts from the contact edge to the inside with increasing number of fatigue cycles. Thus the change of crack nucleation position in press-fitted shaft is mainly caused by the stress change of contact edge due to the evolution of contact surface profile by fretting wear. Furthermore, the estimated fatigue lives by stress-life approach at the end of running-in period of the fretting wear process corresponded well to the experimental results. It is thus suggested that the effect of fretting wear on fatigue life in press fits is strongly related to the evolution of surface profile at the initial stage of total fatigue life.

  • In order to see the effect of die deformation on the forming of sheet metal, the draw-ins, strains, and springbacks of an automotive fender panels are numerically simulated considering the die deformation found by the simultaneous structural analysis of press and dies. The comparison of the forming analysis result between the rigid die and the deformed die layout shows that the deformed tool provides more accurate forming and springback result.

압입축의 손상저감을 위한 최적설계 연구 (Optimal Design of Press-Fitted Axle Shaft Considering Stress Relief)

  • Creation of a stress relief groove is a fairly simple yet high-performance method. During the application of this method, it is important to consider the location and size of the groove in order to achieve better performance. Consequently, this research proposes an approach for optimizing the application of the stress relief groove method to a press-fitted assembly. In a boss design, the position and diameter of the groove are configured as design variables and the design of experiments is applied. Based on this information, a 3D model is built and analyzed using the finite element analysis software ABAQUS. Meta-models are created using back-propagation neural networks. Then, deterministic optimization results obtained from a genetic algorithm are compared with the results of the finite element analysis. The temperature sensitivity of the optimized model is analyzed, and finally, reliability-based design optimization is conducted for enhancing the design quality.

  • The metal front case of a mobile phone is manufactured by press forming and welding of thin metal sheets. Twisting of the frame after the forming process is one of main obstacle for the assembly with reinforcement by welding. This study introduces a method preventing twisting of the metal front case frame in press forming. The spring-back after forming produces twisting of the frame, which leads to a low structural stiffness. To reduce twisting, connectors are required to reinforce the structural stiffness of the frame. In this study, the twisting profile is evaluated using a finite element(FE) analysis for various connector shapes. The actual connector shape is determined by minimization of the frame twisting within the tolerance of the FE-analysis. To verify the validity of the proposed blank shape, a forming experiment is performed and the twisting profile is measured using a 3D laser scanning method. The dimensional accuracy is found to be within the tolerance and in good agreement with the FE-analysis.
