색의 이해와 인쇄 - 인쇄 관련업계 종사자를 위한 킬러의 이해(2)

  • 인쇄라는 과정은 다양한 분야로 구성되어 있으며 서로 다른 분야에서 어떤 작업이 이루어지는지 모르는 경우가 대부분이다. 가장 보편적인 출판을 위한 종이 인쇄 과정은 크게 디자인(Design), 프리프레스(Prepress), 프레스(Press), 포스트프레스(Postpress)로 구분할 수 있다. 인쇄 작업과 컴퓨터 기술이 결합하면서, 그 이전에 비하여 훨씬 다양한 색상을 구현할 수 있게 되었다. 하지만, 아직도 인쇄물에서 원하는 색상을 얻지 못하거나 색상 오차가 발생하는 경우가 종종 있다. 이런 사고가 어떤 원인에 의하여 발생하는지, 사고를 미연에 방지하기 위해서는 어떤 지식이 필요한지 알아보고자 한다.

Image-adaptive Lossless Image Compression (영상 적응형 무손실 영상 압축)

  • In this paper, we proposed a new lossless image compression algorithm. Lossless image compression has been used in the field that requires the accuracy and precision. Thus, application areas using medical unaging, prepress unaging, image archival systems, precious artworks to be preserved, and remotely sensed images require lossless compression. The compression ratio from lossless image compression has not been satisfactory, thus far. So, new method of lossless image compression has been investigated to get better compression efficiency. We have compared the compression results with the most typical compression methods such as CALIC and JPEG-LS. CALIC has shown the best compression-ratio among the existing lossless coding methods at the cost of the extensive complexity by three pass algorithm. On the other hand, JPEG-LS's compression-ratio is not higher than CALIC, but was adopted as an international standard of ISO because of the low complexity and fast coding process. In the proposed method, we adopted an adaptive predictor that can exploit the characteristics of individual images, and an adaptive arithmetic coding with multiple probability models. As a result, the proposed algorithm showed 5% improvement in compression efficiency in comparison with JPEG-LS and showed comparable compression ratio with CALIC.

  • The printing industry is getting more digitalized and integration. It has enabled the interactive information and networking from Pre-Press, Press, to the Post-Press. These are efficient management and the improved process and productivity are getting more important. Such trends improved in the functionality and automation. This paper tries to find out how technology for CIP3/4 -based process may be applied and resolved. Such subject includes the domestic and international cases regarding each manufacturer's CIP3/4 technology types. Another purpose is to emphasize on the needs to establish the environment. Under this environment, it is possible to integrate network in exchangeable form through JDF standard format after CIP3/4. Based on the data from this study, it is expected to collect further substantial data which is related to the domestic printing company's CIP 4 operation. It will be also possible to perform subsequent studies on the proper variables of the market segment. CIP4 stands for "International Cooperation for Integration of Prepress, Press and Post-press, it is an association of around forty international companies, mostly manufacturers of prepress, press and post-press, as well as suppliers and users. In this paper, we studied on the acting application of CIP4 work flow.

A Study on the Application Method of Look-up Table to Color Proofing Systems (컬러교정인쇄에 대한 룩업테이블의 적용방법에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, as the prepress mainstream is changed to the digital workflow, various digital proofing systems such as high price dye sublimation printers and low price ink jet printers are widely used in printing industry. However, most of the digital proofing devices have lower resolution than analog proofing systems and differ with actual color presses in the color gamuts. Therefore, proper color compensations are needed for digital color proofing in order to match colors between the proofs and the press sheets. This study shows the application method of Look-up Table to the digital color proofer of Rainbow, the analog proofer of Matchprint-II, and an actual offset press is effective on the color compensations.

In this paper, we used 3-dimensional look-up table(LUT) and tetrahedral interpolation method for the color space conversion between the device independent color space(CIEXYZ or Lab) and the device dependent color space(CMY) to reduce the color differences between the original copy and digital color proofs and the press sheets.

  • Most of flated scanners and digital cameras in prepress process utilize CCD technology. Device calibration and characterization process is needed to transform the device dependent color to the device independent color. ICC profiles for digital input devices encapsulated information relating the device values to CIELAB or CIEXYZ coordinates. The main purposes of this article is to evaluate some of the transformation methods based on ICC proposed device profiles and to propose optimal color transformation method for accurate color imaging in printing process.

  • The quality of the print can be specified through the quality of the coloring, the reproduction of fine structures and the range of tone values. Also, package printed quality are controlled by this points. In this paper, densitometry method was used for printed quality. By densitometry we can get the print density and the parameters of each conditions that characterize halftone printing, such as dot gain and relative printing contrast. Also, we have proposed the optimizes range of the parameters such as density, dot gain etc. to the package printed printability control.

  • In order to technical analysis of the Newspaper printing press, the printability such as, dot gain, contrast and printing density change according to the amount of ink and damping water feeding were experimented. t도 Printability assurance in printing aims at a correct and constant color reproduction throughout the whole print-run. And the checked values were checked from densitometer and colorimeter instead of conventional subjective method. In this research, we could propose the range of driving in printing of domestic Newspaper printing press as well as the limits of ink feed speed and damping water feed speed.

  • Recently, as the prepress mainstream is changed to the digital wolkflow, various digital proofing systems such as high price dye sublimation printers and low price ink jet printers are widely used in printing industry. Generally, CRT monitors are also often used as a soft proofing device for hard-copy image output. However, displayed color image on CRT monitor does not match to the actual color printing sheets. Because, the color space of CRT monitor used RGB color space, and it is differ with printing device color space, CMY. Therefore, proper color compensations are needed to match the colors between hard-copy proofs on the printing device and soft copy proofs on the monitor. For the proper compensation, we used LUT and gamut mapping method for color space transformation between device dependent color space and device independent color space, vis a vis. This paper shows the application method and the usefulness of CRT monitor for the soft-copy proofing using the output characteristics of printing device.

CRT monitors are also often used as a soft proofing device. However, it is very difficult to match the color image displayed on CRT monitors to the actual images printed on papers, because the color space of CRT monitors is RGB color system, and it is different with the CMY color system of the printing devices. Therefore, proper color compensations are needed to match the colors between hard-copy proofs on the printing device and soft copy proofs on CRT monitors. This paper shows the LUT and gamut mapping method considering the printing characteristics of output device is useful for the compensation.
